The Effect of Altitude Errors in Altitude-aided Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) (고도를 고정한 GNSS 위치 결정 기법에서 고도 오차의 영향)

  • This paper analyzed the precision and accuracy of the altitude-aided GNSS using the altitude information from digital map. The precision of altitude-aided GNSS is analysed using the theoretically derived DOP. It is confirmed that the precision of altitude-aided GNSS is superior to the general 3D positioning method. It is also shown that the DOP of altitude-aided GNSS is independent of altitude bias error while the accuracy was influenced by the altitude bias error. Furthermore, it is shown that, since the altitude bias error influenced differently to each pseudorange measurement, the effect of the altitude bias error is more serious than clock bias error which does not influence position error at all. The results are evaluated by the simulation using the commercial RF simulator and GPS receiver. It confirmed that altitude-aided GNSS could improve not only precision but also accuracy if the altitude bias error are small. These results are expected to be easily applied for the performance improvement to the land and maritime applications.

  • This study investigated the effect of geography and altitude on epigeic spider communities in rice field levees in Jeollabuk-do. Spider communities in the mountainous and plain areas were compared to determine the effect of geography on the cultivation periods. The effect of altitude was compared between the Jeongeup and Jangsu areas during non-cultivation periods. Analysis using nMDS (non-metric multidimensional scaling), MRPP (multiple response permutation procedure), and ANOSIM (analysis of similarity) revealed differences in spider community structures between the two types of study areas. Lycosidae predominated at the family level, and its abundance was greater in the mountainous area than in the plains area. The total abundance did not differ between the two areas with different altitudes, but the abundance of three Pardosa species was greater at lower altitudes than at higher altitudes. Geography and altitude had a minimal effect on species richness and diversity indices at the community level. However, several Lycosidae species showed species-specific responses to both geography and altitude in the rice fields.

  • This paper suggests an altitude determination algorithm using GPS and barometric altitude sensors and evaluates the algorithm by digital map contour. A code based GPS altitude has lots of errors so that the car navigation companies can not use this data. Therefore, altitude is calculated by convergence data with GPS and barometric altitude variance in this paper. The modified altitudes are compared with the digital map contour and then this algorithm's effect is evaluated for the car navigation systems.

  • A study on the effect of altitude-compensation and the possibility of throttling is performed by designing an E-D nozzle that is a type of altitude-compensation nozzles. In order to examine the effect of the altitude-compensation, a CFD analysis is conducted by using three kinds (sea level, altitude at 10 km and 16 km) of the atmosphere condition while maintaining the chamber pressure. Results show that the effective nozzle exit area is also gradually increased when the altitude get increased. Understanding the possibility of throttling, a CFD analysis is conducted by moving the location of the pintle. Just as same as a general pintle thruster, the chamber pressure and thrust are increased when the nozzle throat area get decreased.

Effect of Antioxidants on Physio-biochemical and Hematological Parameters in Broiler Chicken at High Altitude

  • The present study was carried out on broilers to study the effect of oral administration of vitamin E and selenium (E-care Se) on growth performance, haematological and biochemical parameters for a period of 42 days (6 weeks). A total of 90 oneday-old broiler chicks were divided into three equal groups: $T_1$, $T_2$ and $T_3$. Group T1 was maintained as control and was fed only with the basal diet throughout the experimental period. Two experimental diets, $T_2$ and $T_3$, were formulated to contain an additional 100 g (150 IU vitamin E/kg+0.5 mg Se/kg) and 200 g (300 IU vitamin E/kg+1.0 mg Se/kg) of E-care Se which was the source of vitamin E and selenium. Body weight was significantly (p<0.05) higher in antioxidant-treated groups compared to the control group. There were no significant differences in feed conversion ratio (FCR). Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein for haematological (TEC, Hb, PCV and ESR) and biochemical (GOT and GPT) study. Body weight was increased significantly in both treated groups compared with the control group and highest body weights were recorded in group $T_2$. TEC, PCV and Hb content increased significantly (p<0.01) in the treated groups as compared to the control group, but ESR, GOT and GPT values decreased significantly (p<0.01) in both treated groups as compared to the control group. The result reveals that use of antioxidants (vitamin E and selenium) is an effective way of getting the best result in terms of body weight gain and haemato-biochemical profiles in broiler birds at high altitude.

  • This study observed downward long and short-wave radiant environment with selecting 4 areas which have different height in downtown and 1 suburban area to figure out the characteristic of radiant environment in each altitude. The purpose of this study is to collect the preliminary data for interpreting urban thermal environment in summer season by analyzing thermal characteristic of atmosphere in the upper of downtown. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The higher altitude has the lower temperature, and temperature difference was more huge in day time than night time. 2) The short wave radiation according to altitude was higher as altitude was high. 3) Generally, the higher altitude has the lower air temperature, and also the higher altitude has the lower downward long wave radiation by the atmospheric radiation. 4) The ratio short wave radiation of long wave radiation was lower as altitude was high. And the urbanization effect was higher as the ratio was low.

  • A research was conducted about the Reynolds number effect on the projectile with an altitude change. The atmosphere conditions change in accordance with an altitude change. It effects the Reynolds number. To confirm how the phenomena affect the trajectory of the projectile, a computer program is designed with an altitude and a range considered. The MISSILE DATCOM which is based on the semi-empirical method was utilized to get aerodynamic coefficients. The result shows that the Reynolds number considerably changes as the altitude change. It causes to change the drag coefficient of the projectile. As the Reynolds number decreases, the skin friction drag increases significantly. It causes to decrease the maximum altitude and the range.

Modification of DC Flashover Voltage at High Altitude on the Basis of Molecular Gas Dynamics

  • The effect of altitude on thermal conduction, surface temperature, and thermal radiation of partial arc was investigated on the basis of molecular gas dynamics to facilitate a deep understanding of the pollution surface discharge mechanism. The DC flashover model was consequently modified at high altitude. The validity of the modified DC flashover model proposed in this paper was proven through a comparison with the results of high-altitude simulation experiments and earlier models. Moreover, the modified model was found to be better than the earlier modified models in terms of forecasting the flashover voltage. Findings indicated that both the thermal conduction coefficient and the surface thermodynamics temperature of partial arc had a linear decrease tendency with the altitude increasing from 0 m to 3000 m, both of which dropped by approximately 30% and 3.6%, respectively. Meanwhile, the heat conduction and the heat radiation of partial arc both had a similar linear decrease of approximately 15%. The maximum error of DC pollution flashover voltage between the calculation value according to the modified model and the experimental value was within 6.6%, and the pollution flashover voltage exhibited a parabola downtrend with increasing of pollution.

Analysis on Delta-Vs to Maintain Extremely Low Altitude on the Moon and Its Application to CubeSat Mission

  • This paper analyzes delta-Vs to maintain an extremely low altitude on the Moon and investigates the possibilities of performing a CubeSat mission. To formulate the station-keeping (SK) problem at an extremely low altitude, current work has utilized real-flight performance proven software, the Systems Tool Kit Astrogator by Analytical Graphics Inc. With a high-fidelity force model, properties of SK maneuver delta-Vs to maintain an extremely low altitude are successfully derived with respect to different sets of reference orbits; of different altitudes as well as deadband limits. The effect of the degree and order selection of lunar gravitational harmonics on the overall SK maneuver strategy is also analyzed. Based on the derived SK maneuver delta-V costs, the possibilities of performing a CubeSat mission are analyzed with the expected mission lifetime by applying the current flight-proven miniaturized propulsion system performances. Moreover, the lunar surface coverage as well as the orbital characteristics of a candidate reference orbit are discussed. As a result, it is concluded that an approximately 15-kg class CubeSat could maintain an orbit (30-50 km reference altitude having ${\pm}10km$ deadband limits) around the Moon for 1-6 months and provide almost full coverage of the lunar surface.

Black Carbon Measurement using a Drone (드론을 활용한 대기 중 블랙카본 농도 측정)

  • Black carbon concentrations were measured along the altitude at various locations using a drone coupled with a small black carbon detector. The measurement locations are Eunseok Mountain, downtown, four places in KOREATECH campus, Byeongcheon, Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, and Chungbu Expressway in Ochang-eup, Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do. The average concentration of black carbon measured in Eunseok Mountain was $1.64{\mu}g/m^3$ and the average concentration near the Chungbu Expressway was measured to be $3.86{\mu}g/m^3$. The average concentrations of four places inside campus ranged from 1.37 to $2.67{\mu}g/m^3$. The concentration of black carbon at all places tended to be slightly decreased according to the altitude, but the influence of pollution source, geometry, wind speed, and wind direction are thought to be larger than the effect of altitude. Effect of air flow caused by drone flight on the measurement of black carbon were investigated and it resulted in that the measurement of BC concentration was affected by less than 5%.
