The Allium tuberosum is a perennial herb. From the ancient times, it has been used for food or medical purpose. Allium tuberosum is widely distributed in Korea, China, Japan and other countries. As herbal medicine, the Allium tuberosum has medical effects on lumbago, sthenia, diuresis, nocturia, hematemesis, anemia, haemorrhoid, hiccups, diarrhea, eczema, sunstroke, pollution and so on. Recently, the Allium tuberosum has been studied on its components, anti-microorganism action, anti-fungal action, anti-arteriosclerosis action, anti-cancer action. However, there has not been any study on hematological effect of allium tuberosum extract on the blood in large dogs whereas the effects of excess garlic and onion on the blood of cattle, horses, dogs, cats and sheep has been reported by many researchers. Thus, this study was performed to observe the hematological effect of excessive Allium tuberosum extract administrated in large dogs. 1. The Red Blood Cell(R3C) count was significantly decreased(p<0.05), Packed Cell Volume (PCV) count were significantly decreased(P<0.05), and Reticulocyte count was significantly increased(p<0.05) 2. The White Blood Cell(WBC) count was significantly increased(p<0.05).3. The Hemoglobin concentration was significantly decreased(p<0.05) and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC) was increased. and Mean Corpuscular Volume(MCV) was significantly increased.(p<0.05). 4. The Reduced glutathione(GSH) and Met-Hemoglobin were significantly increased (p<0.05).
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of activated carbon on leave production of Allium tuberosum. Growth characteristics including plant height and leaf length were the highest when activated carbon was added with 5%, suggesting that optimum amount of activated carbon was ranged from 5 to 10%. Weight of fresh green vegetable in Allium tuberosum was low in control. And fresh weight of Allium tuberosum was higher in 5% treatment of activated carbon. However, when the plants were grown in activated carbon of $5{\sim}10%$, fresh yield of green vegetable of Allium tuberosum can be increased by using Activated Carbon. Activated carbon can be utilized as a soil conditioner in agricultural crop areas.
This study was carried out to investigate the Allium tuberosum. We collect the volatile components of Allium tuberosum by dynamic head space method. Sample was analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). Twenty on components, 14 sulfides, 12 alcohols, 2 aldehyde, 1 furan, 1 acid and 1 benzene were confirmed in sample.
During the investigation of Allium decline in Pohang, Korea, root-knot nematode was found from root of Allium tuberosum Roth. It was identified as Meloidogyne incognita and was first reported from Allium tuberosum. Allium decline was associated with root-knot nematode, root mite and Fusarium sp. but root-knot nematode appeared to be the main cause of Allium decline.
The effect of wild vegetables such as Allium tuberosum, Allium monanthum, Sedum sarmentosum, Ixeris dentata and Capsella-bursa pastoris on hexobarbital induced hypnosis was tested in mice. Among them, the methanol extract of Allium tuberosum exhibited significant lengthening of the barbiturate hypnosis. When various fractions prepared from the methanol extract of the Allium tuberosum were administered, the chloroform, ethylacetate and butanol extracts caused a significant activity. Through systematic fractionation by $SiO_2$ column monitoring by bioassays, $1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-{\beta}-carboline$ 3-carboxylic acid from the butanol extract was isolated as one of the active principles of this plant.

Physiological activities of Allium tuberosum and Allium senescens were examined. Nitrite-scavenging activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity and electron-donating ability (EDA) of leeks extracted with water, 50%, and 100% ethanol were measured. Nitrite-scavenging activities at pH 1.2 were most effective in water and 50% ethanol extracts from both samples. SOD-like activities of water and 50% ethanol extracts of both samples were $18.21{\sim}36.33%$ lower than those of 1 and 0.1% L-ascorbate solutions. SOD-like activities of A. tuberosum extracts were higher than those of A. senescens extracts, and water extracts of samples were the highest. EDAs of A. tuberosum extracts were higher ($30.59{\sim}49.68%$) than those of A. senescens extracts, while those of both extracts were lower than 1 and 0.1% L-ascorbate solutions. The results will be useful for understanding the physiological activities of leek extracts.
In the course of continuous work on the leaves of Allium tuberosum (Liliaceae), compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from the ethylacetate and butanol-soluble fraction, and identified as N-p-coumaroyl tyramine and bis(p-hydroxyphenyl) ether, respectively, on the basis of spectral data and physicochemical results.
This study investigated various physiological activities to examine the applicability of the functional materials of Allium tuberosum root extract. The A. tuberosum root extract showed a low cytotoxicity against murine melanoma B16F10 cells. It also showed high DPPH radical scavenging activity (ID50, 6.2 ㎍/mL), inhibited tyrosinase activity (ID50, 115.4 ㎍/mL), and decreased melanin content (ID50, 31.5 ㎍/mL). Treatment of B16F10 cells with A. tuberosum root extract suppressed the protein expression of tyrosinase in a dose-dependent manner. These findings suggest that A. tuberosum root extract inhibits melanin synthesis by suppressing intracellular tyrosinase expression. Additionally, A. tuberosum root extract inhibited elastase with an ID50 value of 145.1 ㎍/mL and contained isoquercitrin. These results indicate that A. tuberosum root extract is an appropriate natural material.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of taekwondo and allium tuberosum intake on body composition, blood lipids and C-reactive protein in male high school students. Twenty-four male students of B city volunteered to be test subjects. Experimental groups were taekwondo with allium turberosum group (A, n=6), taekwondo group (B, n=6), allium tuberosum group (C, n=6), control group (D, n=6). The total experimental period was 10 weeks. Groups A and B practiced taekwondo 4 times a week for 10 weeks with an intensity of 60~80% HRR. Each practice was 50 minutes. Groups A and C were instructed to take an allium tuberosum pill every day before their taekwondo exercise during the 10 weeks. The results of this study are as follows: Within groups A, B and C, there was a significant decreas in % fat. Groups A and B showed a significant increase in HDL-C concentration, as well as a more significant increase in HDL-C concentration than groups C and D. Group A showed a more significant decreased in LDL-C concentration than group D. In conclusion, taekwondo and allium tuberosum intake seem to have a positive effect on % fat, HDL-C and LDL-C. Further research regarding the effect of allium tuberosum diets is required.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise and Allium tuberosum intake on blood lipids, MDA and antioxidant enzyme in rats. Twenty four male Sprague-Dawley rats, 4 weeks old, were used. Experimental groups were aerobic exercise with Allium tuberosum intake group (A, n=6), aerobic exercise group (B, n=6), Allium tuberosum intake group (C, n=6), and the control group (D, n=6). Aerobic exercise was administered through a treadmill running program (14~15 m/min, $0^{\circ}$ grade, 25~30 min/day, 5 day/wk) and these rats were given 5% Allium tuberosum for 2 wk. The results of this study are as follows: TC and TG didn't show change; groups A, B, C showed a significant increase in HDL-C compared to the D group; groups A, B, and C showed a significant decrease in LDL-C compared to the D group; groups B and C showed a significant decrease in MDA level compared to the D group; groups B and C showed a significant increase in SOD activity compared to the D group; and the A group showed a significant increase in CAT activity compared to the D group. In conclusion, low intensity aerobic exercise and intake of the natural antioxidant Allium tuberosum seem to have the health promoting effect of retarding oxidative stress by decreasing lipid peroxidation.
