  • Spray characteristics of a twin-hole air shrouded nonle designed for gasoline injectors was investigated by using laser diffraction particle analyzer (LDPA) and tomography reconstruction- A confined spray chamber which is optically accessible through a pair of glass windows was made to simulate the fuel injection condition in intake manifold of gasoline engine. The measurement was applied to the twin hole injector with and without an air shroud. It demonstrates that for the case with an air shroud, fine atomization is achieved and there exists a large number of fine droplets between the region of the main spray streams, which conforms with the spray visualization. The drop size distribution was investigated as a function of elapse time after fuel injection. The distribution was greatly affected by the measurement position from the injector exit. Also, the spatially resolved spray volume fraction and Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD) from line-of-sight data of the LDPA are tomographically reconstructed by Convolution Fourier transformation under the steady injection condition.

  • The spray characteristics were investigated to study the effect of shroud air with swirl flow on simplex type fuel injector for gas turbine combustor. The spray tests using PDA(Phase Doppler Anemometry) technique were conducted to compare the performance of simplex atomizer with $0^{\circ},\;40^{\circ},\;50^{\circ}$ swirled-shroud air conditions. In this study. we found that the injector with strong swirled-shroud air has the better atomization Performance compared with weaker swirled and non-swirled conditions.

  • The injector, which is used in a 4-valve gasoline engine, is required to be maintained the dual stream because of the design of dual intake port. In addition, the spray characteristics of fuel injector have strong influence on engine performance, exhaust emission, fuel consumption, and especially the cold start condition for the port injection. So, commercial gasoline injectors off different type were inspected. Those are 2 hole,4 hole, air shroud 4 hole, and air shroud 4 hole injector with separator. The spray behavior of dual stream was researched by the visualization system and PDPA system was employed to measure the droplet size. Atomization is one of the most important characteristic, so droplet size distributions and SMD are investigated. And the spray characteristics of each injector are also analyzed such as the spray tip penetration, spray angle, and separation angle.

  • Improvement of the atomization characteristics by adopting the air-shrouded injector has been considered as one of the important methods for decreasing HC emissions in SI engines. Thus, in this study to develop air-shrouded injector with a finer spray, atomization characteristics of differ-ent types of commercial air-shrouded injectors were investigated through the spray imaging and the drop size measurements. As a results, it was found that the internal mixing type of air-shroud-ed injector had a good atomization characteristics. But, a number of large droplets were found in the internal mixing type commercial injector, this shortcoming was improved by adopting the thread type air passages in the air nozzle.

  • A convolution alogorithm combined with Fourier transformation is applied to the tomographic reconstruction of the asymmetric spray structure to identify the local drop size and volume concentration. The line of sight intergrated data from Malvern particle analyzer with multiangular scanning form a basic information for the deconvolution. Linear interpolation is tested to obtain the effect of increasing number of scanning angles. This transformation method predicts well the structure of asymmetric spray. The tehnique can be extended to other line of sight combustion diagnostics.

  • 본 연구에서는 단단 천음속 축류압축기 정익부 슈라우드에 공기분사기를 설치하는 방안을 제시하고 이 것이 공력성능에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 매개변수 연구를 수행하였다. 분사기의 곡률, 폭, 정익 앞전으로부터의 거리, 원주방향 각도 및 공기분사 비율을 변수로 선정하였고, 각 변수의 변화에 따른 공력성능 영향을 분석하기 위해 삼차원 레이놀즈평균 나비어-스톡스 방정식을 사용한 공력해석을 수행하였다. 매개변수 연구 결과, 정익 분사가 적용된 단단 축류압축기의 공력성능이 향상되었고, 공력성능이 공기분사 비율에 민감한 영향을 받는 것이 확인되었다. 원주방향 각도의 비율이 10%일 때 전압력비와 단열 효율이 가장 크게 향상되었다.

  • Convolution Fourier transformation tomographically reconstructs the spatially resolved spray injection rate from direct measuring cells. Asymmetric sprays generated from a twin-hole air shroud injector are tested with 12 equiangular projections of measurements. For each projection angle, line of sight integrated injection rate was measured at 35 positions with equal spacing measuring cells of 3 mm in width, 100 mm in length, 55 mm in depth and 0.5 mm thickness of separating wall. Interpolated data between the projection angles effectively increase the number of projections, which significantly enhances the signal-to-noise level in the reconstructed data. This modified convolution Fourier transformation scheme predicts well the structure of asymmetric sprays. Comparative study has been made between sprays with and without air shrouding. Tomograhpic reconstruction of injection rate from direct measuring cells obtained can be used to estimate the accuracy of volume fraction of spray from the LDPA tomographic reconstruction.
