Unfilled, carbon black-filled, and silica-filled natural rubber (NR) composites were aged with a circular deformation at $60-90^{\circ}C$ and the recovery behaviors were investigated. The samples were aged under the altering aging medium systems of air and distilled water every day for 10 days. The order of the recoveries according to the filler systems was unfilled > silica > carbon black. The recoveries of the samples aged in the air to water altering system were greater than those of the samples aged in the water to air altering system. The initial aging medium dominantly influenced the deformation level.
Applications of ultrasonic tomography to concrete structures have been reported for many years. However, practical and effective application of this tool for nondestructive assessment of internal concrete condition is hampered by time consuming transducer coupling that limits the amount of ultrasonic data that can be collected. This research aims to deploy recent developments in air-coupled ultrasonic measurements of solids, described in Part 1 of this paper set, to concrete in order to image internal inclusions. Ultrasonic signals are collected from concrete samples using a fully air-coupled (contactless) test configuration. These air coupled data are compared to those collected using partial semi-contact and full-contact test configurations. Two samples are considered: a 150 mm diameter cylinder with an internal circular void and a prism with $300mm{\times}300mm$ square cross-section that contains internal damaged regions and embedded reinforcement. The heterogeneous nature of concrete material structure complicates the application and interpretation of ultrasonic measurements and imaging. Volumetric inclusions within the concrete specimens are identified in the constructed velocity tomograms, but wave scattering at internal interfaces of the concrete disrupts the images. This disruption reduces defect detection accuracy as compared with tomograms built up of data collected from homogeneous solid samples (PVC) that are described in Part 1 of this paper set. Semi-contact measurements provide some improvement in accuracy through higher signal-to-noise ratio while still allowing for reasonably rapid data collection.
To improve their shelf-life, domestic peaches were treated with hot air($46^{\circ}C$) for 0~9 hour, and the spoilage rate, changes of physico-chemical and sensory properties were investigated. The control showed spoilage at day 4, and then 50% of control showed spoilage on day 6. However, 12.5% of samples treated with hot air($46^{\circ}C$) for 6 hr showed spoilage on day 4. After 6 days, the spoilage rates of peaches treated with hot air treated for 3~9 hr were 16.7, 25.0, and 25.0%, respectively. Weight change of control was higher than that of hot air-treated samples for 6 days storage. There were no differences in pH of samples among the treatments, but pH increased with storage time. Hardness of hot air-treated samples was higher than that of control in the initial stage of storage. And then hardness of control sample was decreased faster than that of the hot air-treated samples for 6 days of storage. No significant changes in lightness and redness of the samples were observed after hot air treatment. Changes in yellowness of control occurred faster than that of hot air-treated samples during storage. The sensory parameters including taste, flavor, color, texture and overall acceptance at initial period were not different among treatments. The scores for taste, flavor, texture and overall acceptance of control decreased faster than those of hot airtreated samples during storage.
Difference in recovery behaviors from the circular deformation of natural rubber (NR) composites aged in air and distilled water, respectively were investigated. Recoveries of the samples aged in air were larger than those of the samples aged in distilled water. Recovery rates of the samples reinforced with filler were faster than those of the unreinforced ones. Recovery rates of the carbon black-filled samples were faster than those of the silica-filled ones. Difference in the recovery behaviors according to the aging media can be explained by the crosslinking density changes and the annealing effect.
The separation performance of zigzag air classifier with angle of 90 degrees was studied using narrow size fractions of thin square samples and granular samples. The simulation results of air velocity inside the classifier indicated that the zigzag geometry induces a new pattern consisting of an upward flow and a circulation flow, Experimental results showed that overflow product recovery was described as an integral calculus of normal distribution as a function of dimensionless air velocity ( $V_{A}$$V_{A50}$), where $V_{A}$ is superficial air velocity and $V_{A50}$ is the $V_{A}$ at the fifty percent recovery. The $V_{A}$ values were predicted using the equations derived from dynamics for a particle dropping in air. A monitoring system that utilizes changes in acoustic signals emitted during the process of air classification was developed to separate PET with desired recovery or grade. The technical feasibility of the on-line monitoring of the PET recovery and grade was demonstrated by measuring relative energy of the signals.signals.als.
A gas chromatographic method for the determination of airborne formaldehyde was established. In order to be highly detectable with the electron capture detector, formaldehyde was derivatized to its pentafluorobenzyl oxime form by reacting with O- (2,3,4,5,6- pentafluorobenzyl)hydroxylamine hydrochloride (PFBHA) at pH of 4.6 and temperature of 50$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Air samples were collected into a Tedlar$\^$(R)/ bag followed by transferring into water contained in two impingers in series. Collection efficiency in the front trap was higher than 90%. Measurement of selected indoor and outdoor air samples showed higher formaldehyde concentrations in indoor air environments and the importance of ventilation for reducing indoor pollution.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to estimate the applicability of regional sample collection of environmental samples. The concentration of asbestos fibers were analyzed with two devices. One was an existing commercial air sampling pump that has been proved to be accurate and exact, and the other is a remodeled pump for sample collection which was made from an electric bubble generator originally designed for aquarium fish. Samples were collected with the two devices under the same environmental conditions and collection equipment. A comparative analysis of the concentration of ambient asbestos fiber was then performed. Methods: Based on previous research, six farmhouses with asbestos fiber slate roofs known to have high concentrations of asbestos fiber were selected. Using the existing commercial air sampling pump and the remodeled electric bubble generator, four to seven samples were collected each day one meter downwind from the edge of the slate roof at high volume (about 4 L/min) and low volume (about 1.4 L/min). The analyzer responsible for sample quality control of asbestos fibers counted the number of asbestos fibers with a phase microscope. Results: The rates of flow change of the existed sampler and the remodeled pump at high volume were 0.82% and 0.17%, respectively. The rates of flow change at low volume were 3.83% and 1.09%, but there was not significant difference. The rates of flow change are within the error range (${\pm}5%$) of OSHA analyzing methods. For the high volume sampler, the average asbestos fiber concentration in the air collected by the existed sampler is 6.270 fibers/L and for the remodeled one 5.527 fibers/L, not a significant difference. For the low volume sampler, the average asbestos fiber concentration in the air collected by the existed sampler is 7.755 fibers/L and for the remodeled one 7.706 fibers/L, not a significant difference. The total area of the slate roof of the targeted farmhouse has an effect on the concentration of asbestos fibers in the air from the existing pump and the remodeled one (p<0.01). Conclusions: The sampling function between the existing commercial pump and the remodeled one shows little difference. Therefore, the remodeled pump is considered a pump with a good availability for collecting ambient air asbestos samples.
Omija (Schizandra chinensis B.) slices were dehydrated with 20, 40, and 60% (w/w) red algae extract (RAE), and 40% of RAE was selected as the proper processing concentration considering the dehydration efficiency and cost of the dehydrating agent. The RAE-treated omija samples were compared with the hot-air dried samples in terms of the qualities such as the rehydration capacity and total phenolic contents. The rehydration ratios of the RAE-treated samples were greater than those of the hot-air dried samples by 31%. The total phenolic contents of the RAE-treated samples (1304.8 mg GAE/100 g) were higher than those of the hot-air dried samples (999.5 mg GAE/100 g). Therefore, omija slices can be dehydrated with RAE without quality loss.

In order to comprehension of the behaviour of PAHs in air which is known as carcinogens and/or mutagens suspended Particulates in ambient air were collected by Anderson air sampler from 1992. 6 to 1993. 5 in Seoul. Ten species of PAHs( Phen, An, Fl, R, Py, BaAn, BaP, Chry, BeP, DiB(a, h)An, I123p) were analyzed to understand monthly variations of PAHs distribution of PAHs concentration according to particle size, and correlation between PAHs and independent charactierstics of PAHs The highest concentration of TSP was 155.58$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ in May and the lowest was 60$\mu\textrm{g}$/㎥ in August. Concentration of TSP was more affected by coarse particles in spring, otherwise which was more affected by fine particles in winter. According to results of anaylsis of samples that were collected by Anderson air sampler, concentration of PAHs was more high in winter than that in summer. In almost samples collected by Anderson air sampler, concentration of PAHs was more high in coarse particles than in fine particles, but BaP well known as carcinogenic matter had more high concentration in fine particles(56-97.5%) than that in coarse particles(2.5-46%). Correlation between concentrations of TSP and PAHs was more high in fine Particles than in coarse Particles. Both fine particles and coarse particles have negative correaltion with radiation.

The effects of paper properties such as density, air permeability, water vapor transmission rate on the thermal performance of plate-type enthalpy exchanger were experimentally investigated. Three enthalpy exchanger samples having different properties were made, and were tested according to the standard test procedure (KS B 6879). Effective efficiencies were defined, which accounted for the air leakage between supply and exhaust streams. Results showed that paper density affected the sensible heat transfer of the samples. Sensible heat transfer increased with density of the paper. It was also shown that water vapor transmission rate alone was not a proper indicator for the efficiency of latent heat transfer. Air permeability should also be considered for adequate evaluation of the latent heat transfer. Best performance was obtained for the sample having highest paper density and moderate water vapor transmission ratio.
