A male Blue-fronted amazon parrot suddenly died after having a history of depression, anorexia and emaciation. At necropsy, numerous well-demarcated yellow to white firm nodules were scattered throughout the left caudal lung lobes and adjacent air sac. Histologically, the wall of air sac was significantly thickened due to necrosis and infiltration of large numbers of fungi and degenerated heterophils. Multifocal necrotizing granulomatous lesions with numerous fungal hypae as well as vasculitis and thrombosis were found in tl1e lung. The fungi had conidiophore, vesicle, phialides and conidia which were characteristic of Aspergillus sp. This is tl1e first report of mycotic air sacculitis and pneumonitis caused by Aspergillus in a parrot in Korea.

혼수상태를 보인 8개월령 타조가 증상 발현 이틀 후 폐사되었다. 부검시 육안상으로 두꺼워진 기낭벽에는 녹회색의 곰팡이가, 간에는 다발성의 작은 결절들이 관찰되었다. 현미경상으로 기낭막, 폐, 간의 육아종성 병소는 많은 격벽을 가지며 가지를 뻗는 곰팡이성 균사를 함유하고 있었다. 곰팡이의 전형적인 포자머리는 감염된 두꺼워진 기낭 내막에서 관찰되었다 이 증례는 Aspergillus fumigatus에 의해 만성의 전신적인 사상균성 기낭염과 폐렴을 보인 동물원 타조에 대한 보고이다

Newcastle disease (ND) is acute respiratory disease with high mortality in chicken and pet birds. Two ostriches aged on 51 days old submitted had showed clinical signs of severe torticolis and poor locomotion. In gross, fibrinous air-sacculitis and hemorrhagic enteritis were present. The significant lesions were histopathologically lymphocytic encephalitis such as perivascular cuffings and gliosis in neuropil. The velogenic ND virus was isolated ftom 10 day-old embryonated eggs inoculated with hemogenized cecal tonsils. These results suggest that NO occurred in the ostrich in Korea.
