The purpose of this study was to investigate how to modify the physical properties of cellulose after thermal treatment. Cellulose was treated between $225^{\circ}C$ and $325^{\circ}C$ for 3 hrs under air flow, and then the thermally treated cellulose was measured to specific surface area, constitute elements, consumption ofacid and base, as well as the adsorption capacity of ethylamine vapor. The higher was the treating temperature from $225^{\circ}C$ to $325^{\circ}C$, the lower was the total yield of cellulose. Elemental analysis revealed that carbon content in thermally treated cellulose was gradually increased in proportion to temperature increment. The amount of acidic functional groups tended to increase up to $300^{\circ}C$, after then to be lowered slightly. In principle, no alkaline functional groups were found in thermally treated cellulose. In case of treatment with $325^{\circ}C$, only a few amount of alkaline functional groups were detectable. Specific surface area of thermally treated cellulose are determined to $1.9m^2/g$, which value can become higher when the treated temperature rises. The thermally treated cellulose at $275^{\circ}C$ shows the highest adsorption capacity of ethylamine at $40^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs. Solubility of those two celluloses with WPG (Weight Percent Gain) value of 113% and 108%, respectively, was determined to almost 100%. X-ray diffractogram of thermally treated cellulose suggested that the crystalline structure of cellulose began to be destroyed at the temperature of $275^{\circ}C$. As a conclusion, changes of such a physical properties make it possible to weaken inter and/or intra hydrogen bond in crystal region of cellulose macromolecules. When thermally treated cellulose adsorbs ethylamine, it turns to be well soluble to water.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of energy saving and sound insulation of building materials mixed with charcoal. To investigate the functionality of building based on the difference of construction materials, three different experimental buildings were constructed. They were buildings built with the conventional construction materials (A), the charcoal construction materials (B), and the charcoal-sericite construction materials (C). The study showed that energy consumption could be reduced approximately 9.5% and 14.5% by replacing A with B and C, respectively. Especially, it is revealed that the lower outdoor temperature was, the higher energy saving effect was. Also, after shutoff the boiler switch the decrease rate of room temperature of the one using B was lower than those of others using A and C so that the room temperature at the building using B was higher by $3.5{\sim}4.2^{\circ}C$ in the 1 meter air above the ground and by $4.4{\sim}5.4^{\circ}C$ on the floor surface after 12 hours passed. In the building noise test the heavy-and light-weight impact sound of the plate, represented by criterion of noise between floors in multi-story building, tended to decrease in the test sample containing charcoal.
For hazardous air pollutants(HAP) such as NO, $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ decomposition efficiency, power consumption, and applied voltage were investigated by SPCP(Surface induced discharge Plasma Chemical Processing) reactor to obtain optimum process variables and maximum decomposition efficiencies. Decomposition efficiency of HAP with various electric frequencies(5~50 kHz), flow rates(100~1,000 mL/min), initial concentrations(100~1,000 ppm) and additive($CH_4$) were measured and the products were analyzed with FT-IR. Experimental results showed that for the frequency of 10 kHz, the highest decomposition efficiency of 94.3 % for NO, 84.7 % for $NO_2$ and 99 % far $SO_2$ were observed at the power consumptions of 19.8, 20 and 19W, respectively, and that decomposition efficiency decreased with increasing frequency above 20 kHz. And decomposition efficiency per unit power were 5.21 %/W for $SO_2$, 4.76 %/W for NO and 4.24 %/W for $NO_2$ and the highest decomposition efficiency was observed with $SO_2$. Decomposition efficiency was increased with increasing residence times and with decreasing initial concentration of pollutants. When the additive of $CH_4$ was used, decomposition efficiency was increased with increasing $CH_4$ content, and NO, $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ were almost completely decomposed with the efficiency of 99 %, 98 % and 99 %, respectively and therefore $CH_4$ was a good additive material. The optimum power for the maximum decomposition efficiency were 7.5 W for $SO_2$, 9.5 W for NO and 15.5 W for $NO_2$, respectively. Optimum power with the maximum decomposition efficiency were 9.5 W at 1,000 ppm of NO, 7~8 W at 100~500 ppm of NO and 15.5 W at all concentration range of $NO_2$ and 11.5 W at 1,000 ppm, 4.9 W at 500 ppm, 3.7 W at 100~300 ppm of $SO_2$ and power efficiency was best in these case.

This study examined energy saving and elevating the worker's neuro energy (comfort, concentration, physical, and psychological stability) by compensating for the unpleasant tactile sensation to stimulate auditory and olfactory senses and reduce energy consumption. The experiment was conducted in an environment test room under the test conditions of temperature $25[^{\circ}C]$, relative humidity 50[RH%], illumination 1,000[lux] and air current speed 0.02[m/sec] by stimulating the auditory senses with a 1/f change in rhythm and the olfactory senses with an aroma scent. The experiment utilized the method of EEG, which evaluates human body's psychological status via tactile means, and the method of the vibra image, which evaluates the learning abilities, HRV and human body's psychological status via non-tactile means. The subjects were selected as eight university students (four males and four females) in their 20s, the type that have high relative ${\alpha}$(8~13[Hz]) activation in occipital lobe, which brings the highest level of mind stability and concentration, who had no difficulty in physical activities. The subjects' posture and physical activity was fixed to 1met - when the subjects are seated and relaxing in a comfortable environment - and their clothes condition was standardized as 0.7clo. As a result, the sentimental and psychological stability and concentration were the highest in the multisensory stimulation of jasmine scent and change rhythm of an a=1.106 sound source. In addition, under this condition, the relative $M{\alpha}$ and relative $M{\beta}$ increased by 70.49[%] and 89.72[%], respectively; the HRT decreased by 39.09[%]; and the fatigue and tension/anxiety decreased by 36.85[%] and 15.54[%], respectively.

This paper dealt with a retrofit high power LED searchlight to replace conventional 1kW halogen searchlights. The design specification meets KDS 6230-1046-1 and KS V 8469. An optical lens with the beam angle of $6^{\circ}$ was used to meet the luminous intensity of 800,000cd at $0^{\circ}$ in horizontal line. Heat dissipation of the LED searchlight adopted a free air cooling type which does not use a fan or a heat-pipe. From the test results, power consumption of the prototype LED searchlight was 148W which was saved by 85% comparing a halogen searchlight of 1kW. Luminous intensity was 945,000cd at $0^{\circ}$ in horizontal line, satisfying KS V 8469. Luminous efficacy was improved by 4.7 times higher than that of the halogen searchlights. Beam angle, color temperature, and color rendering index(CRI) was $5.4^{\circ}$, 5,500K, and 70, respectively. Surface temperature of the LED searchlight was below $60^{\circ}C$ and surrounding temperature of the SMPS installed inside was below $50^{\circ}C$ which were satisfied with the IEC 60092-306.

Due to the development of civilization, the humans is privileged the rich of technologies for housing thermal environment. But, this kind of technological development caused enough trouble of energy excessive consumption. For solve this problem, many researchers strive to exploit the low energy sustainable techniques. For such a reason, the eco-friendly techniques of vernacular house are resurfacing. These traditional techniques are applied to a development of eco-friendly modern housing. They are no longer recognized as outdated products. On this context, this study proposes an scientific analysis on the thermal environment characteristics of Neolithic thatched-roof dugout hut(Um house). So far the several studies have been carried out in viewpoint of the history and structural compositions of the Um house which has been used as the normal housing for about 1000 years in the Neolithic era, however the thermal characteristics analysis of the Um house has never been studied. Um house is not a housing which has been composed by the scientific analysis or architectural design technology, but evolved empirically over a long period. This study on the thermal environment characteristics of Um house would provide basic information for the development of korean eco-friendly rural housing by korean climate characteristics. In this study, the thermal environmental characteristics of the Um house in the Neolithic era was analysed experimentally. The results of this study could be summarized as follows: 1. When the solar insolation and the ambient temperature in the daytime were $420W/m^2$ and $17^{\circ}C$ respectively, the surface temperature of the Um house roof covered with the rice straw was $37^{\circ}C$ and that in the roof $32^{\circ}C$, and in the conditions above the air temperature in the room was $15^{\circ}C$. 2. When the ambient relative humidity was 40%, that in the room of the Um house 50%, and at the ambient relative humidity of 90~100%, that in the room was 60%. 3. Through the experimental analysis, it was verified that the enthalpy and relative humidity is in an inverse relationship. 4. In general the comfort degree in the living space is changed with the seasonal climate, also in this study, the comfort degree in the room of the Um house in October and November was higher than that in May and June.

The energy economic analysis of the standard rural house model with PV system was performed based on annual energy demand calculation using the EnergyPlus to contribute in reducing building energy which occupies 25% of national energy consumption and in developing a low-energy & eco-friendly house model. Two types of PV system installation was considered to cover electricity demand for cooling, electric, and heating devices. For the selected house model, heating energy demand is 7 times higher than cooling energy demand. For the Case1, it is favorable to use electricity from PV system for cooling and electric devices and to sell surplus electricity. For the Case2, it is favorable to use electricity from PV system for cooling, electricity and heating devices and to sell surplus electricity. Considering the installation cost of PV system and heat pump air conditioning system, the break-even point of Case1 and Case2 are about 13 and 11 years respectively. Although the installation cost of Case2 is more expensive, Case2 provides three times more profit than Case1 after the break-even point. Because the expected average life time of the selected PV system is 25 years, Case2 is more favorable option for the given standard rural house model.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of SCR reactor on the exhaust emissions characteristics in order to develop a urea-SCR aftertreatment system for reducing $NO_x$ emissions. The experiments are conducted by using a flue tube LPG steam boiler with the urea-SCR aftertreatment system. The urea-SCR aftertreatment system utilizes the ammonia converted from 17% aqueous urea solution injected in front of SCR catalyst as a reducing agent for reducing $NO_x$ emissions. The equivalence ratio, urea injection amount, ammonia slip and $NO_x$ conversion efficiency relative to boiler load are applied to discuss the experimental results. In this experiment, the average equivalence ratio is calculated by changing only the fuel consumption rate while the intake air amount is constantly fixed at $25,957.11cm^3/sec$. The average equivalence ratios are 1.38, 1.11, 0.81 and 0.57 when boiler loads are 100, 80, 60 and 40%. The $NO_x$ conversion efficiency is raised with increasing urea injection amount, and $NH_3$ slip is also boosted at the same time. Consequently, the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency relative to boiler load should be examined in combination with urea injection amount and $NH_3$ slip. The results are calculated by 89, 85, 77 and 79% for the boiler loads of 100, 80, 60 and 40%. The appropriate amount of urea injection for the respective boiler load can be not discussed by only $NO_x$ emissions, and should be determined by considering the $NO_x$ conversion efficiency, $NH_3$ slip and reactive activation temperature simultaneously. In this study, the urea amounts of 230, 235, 233 and 231 mg/min are injected at the boiler loads of 100, 80, 60 and 40%, and the final $NH_3$ slips are measured by 8.48, 5.58, 11.97 and 11.34 ppm at the same conditions. THC emission is affected by the SCR reactor under other experimental conditions except 100% engine load, and CO emission at only 40% engine load. The rest of exhaust emissions are not affected by the SCR reactor under all experimental conditions.

We have developed a second-order double relaxation oscillation SQUID(DROS) gradiometer with a baseline of 35 mm, and constructed a poorly magnetically-shielded room(MSR) with an aluminum layer and permalloy layers for magnetocardiography(MCG). The 2nd-order DROS gradiometer has a noise level of 20 $fT/{\surd}Hz$ at 1 Hz and 8 $fT/{\surd}Hz$ at 200 Hz inside the heavily-shielded MSR with a shielding factor of $10^3$ at 1 Hz and $10^4-10^5$ at 100 Hz. The poorly-shielded MSR, built of a 12-mm-thick aluminum layer and 4-6 permalloy layers of 0.35 mm thickness, is 2.4mx2.4mx2.4m in size, and has a shielding factor of 40 at 1 Hz, $10^4$ at 100 Hz. Our 64-channel second-order gradiometer MCG system consists of 64 2nd-order DROS gradiometers, flux-locked loop electronics, and analog signal processors. With the 2nd-order DROS gradiometers and flux-locked loop electronics installed inside the poorly-shielded MSR, and with the analog signal processor installed outside it, the noise level was measured to be 20 $fT/{\surd}Hz$ at 1 Hz and 8 $fT/{\surd}Hz$ at 200 Hz on the average even though the MSR door is open. This result leads to a low noise level, low enough to obtain a human MCG at the same level as that measured in the heavily-shielded MSR. However, filters or active shielding is needed fur clear MCG when there is large low-frequency noise from heavy air conditioning or large ac power consumption near the poorly-shielded MSR.
The recent development of the technology for wireless mobile computing and applied technology for location-based services has made it possible to support query processing faster than that in the past. However, some technological limitations on hardware and software still exist. The most critical aspects of query processing are accuracy and speed. For improving the accuracy, it is required that detailed information on the data involved in query processing be saved. In this case, the amount of information on the data increases, which decreases the speed. On the other hand, for increasing the speed, it is necessary to reduce the broadcast cycle, which enables rapid data acquisition as desired. In this case, because of insufficient index information, the listen time for the client increases, which may cause unnecessary energy consumption. Therefore, a trade-off occurs between the accuracy and speed. This paper proposes a hierarchical bitmap-based spatial index (HBI) as a solution for the aforementioned problems. HBI describes an object with 0 and 1 on the Hilbert curve map. It reduces the broadcast cycle by decreasing the index size on the basis of bit information and tree structure. Therefore, it is able to shorten the listen time and query processing time. In addition, HBI enables the detection of the locations of all the objects so that it is possible selectively listen to a broadcast. A performance evaluation of the proposed technique demonstrates that it is excellent.
