This study was conducted to investigate methane emission under different rice cultural practices in paddy soil (Jeonbug Series, occurring on fluvio-alluvial plain). The rates of application of fresh rice straw were 5,000kg/ha in combination with 110 and 160kg N/ha as chemical fertilizer. The methane emission among the rice cultural practices was in the order of transplanting cultivation, direct seeding on flooded surface and direct seeding on dry paddy field. The average methane flux was $10.27mg/m^2/h$ in direct, seeding on dry paddy field and $24.1mg/m^2/h$ in transplanting cultivation. The diurnal variation of methane emission at heading stage was high from 9 a.m. till 7 p.m. and the methane emission rate was highly correlated with air temperature fluctuation and soil Eh. The seasonal change of methane flux was high from ear formation stage to heading stage.
This study investigated the effect of $2\%$ addition of pectin and alginate on the Physicochemical and retrogradation Properties of Jeungpyun, a Korean traditional fermented rice cake. The volume of batters with alginate and Pectin was significantly larger than that of control. Jeungpyun samples with Pectin and alginate had a larger volume with uniform and smaller cell size. All samples showed largest foaming capability after second fermentation. Foaming capability of the control ($0\%$ addition of pectin and alginate) was significantly larger than that of the treated samples. The amount of reducing sugar tended to increase during fermentation but decreased after steaming, which was due to the increase in hydrolysis of starch. On the contrary, the content of free sugar was slightly decreased during fermentation but slightly increased after steaming. The control contained the largest amount of free sugar after steaming. The microstructure of starch particles after fermentation showed completely dispersed starch granules with air bubbles. After steaming, the structure was sponge-like in all samples. Samples with added alginate and pectin had significantly higher water binding capacity than those of the control. All samples showed noticeably increased solubility and swelling power at $70^{circ}C$ with the control being significantly lower than the treated samples. Retrogradation was measured with $\alpha$-amylase and the retrogradation process of the sample with added alginate and pectin proceeded slower than that of the control. The relative crystallinity was observed through X-ray diffraction method and samples with added alginate and pectin had smaller crystallinity and delayed retrogradation compared to the control. Thus, Jeungpyun with the addition of alginate and Pectin demonstrated improved functionality and dietary fiber addition effect. The storage period of was extended as the retrogradation rate was delayed by the addition of dietary fibers.
The government has recently come up with a policy to tighten regulations on air pollutant emissions due to public concerns over the emission of pollutants such as fine dust. The coal-fired power plant is speeding up the improvement of the performance of environmental facilities, and this paper deals with the cases of performance improvement by adding a catalyst to the 500 MW standard coal-fired power DeNox system, and examines the change in the performance factors according to the addition of catalysts and the efficiency of NOx removal. The DeNOx efficiency before and after improvement increased from 80% to 88%, and the conversion rate of SO2/SO3, ammonia slip which are performance factors satisfied the design assurance value, but exceeded the design assurance value for differential pressure. At the same time, the ammonia slip concentration and differential pressure items increased as the NOx removal efficiency increased, resulting in the need for management and improvement.

Background: The growth process of ginseng seedlings is very important in producing good quality ginseng. This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different microclimates on the growth characteristics of ginseng seedlings in a multi-layer bed facility. Methods and Results: Ginseng seedlings were cultivated in a three-layer bed facility. The air temperatures on the first and second floors were similar, while that on the third floor was about $1-4^{\circ}C$ higher than that on the other floors. The vapor pressure deficit (VPD) was higher inside than on the outside of the facility, and that on third floor was the highest in the multi-layer bed system. The photosynthetic rate, chlorophyll fluorescence, and growth characteristics of ginseng seedlings did not significantly differ among the three floors. The yield of ginseng seedlings was the highest at $721g/1.62m^2$ on the first floor. Conclusions: It was found that microclimate plays an important role in growing ginseng seedlings in multi-layer bed facilities, and therefore proper environmental control is important. In addition, producing ginseng seedlings using multi-layer bed facilities is a technology that is expected to provide a way to overcome climate change and stabilize ginseng production.

In this study, the effect of moisture conditions of recycled coarse aggregates on the compressive strength of concrete was evaluated with the water/binder ratios and the curing conditions. The saturated recycled aggregates seemed to have the negative effect on the strength development of concrete. This is the because of the decrease in bond strength between aggregate and cement paste due to the increase of surface water according to the high absorption of recycled aggregates. The effect of types and moisture conditions of aggregates according to the change of water/binder ratio was similar. However, the curing conditions had a significant effect on the compressive strength of the concrete with the different types of aggregates. In the case of curing in air, the recycled aggregates with high absorption reduced the moisture required for hydration and increased the rate of vaporizing, and these result in interfering strength development. The moisture conditions of the recycled aggregates have a considerable effect on the compressive strength of the concrete, and it is necessary to control the moisture conditions of aggregates in the production of concrete with recycled coarse aggregate. And the control of the curing condition is very important for the concrete with recycled aggregate.
The 20 L small chamber test method is to evaluate pollutants such as TVOC, formaldehyde emitted from building materials. This method was only designed to evaluate the surface emission of sample exposed in the chamber. In this method, building materials cut with a fixed standard size are fixed in a sample sealing box. The sample sealing box is put into the 20 L test chamber. This chamber is ventilated at a standard air change rate with purified air for 7 days then the sample from the chamber is collected and analyzed to measure the emission rate of TVOC and formaldehyde. In this method, however, if the sealing box does not guarantee airtightness, accurate evaluation for the building materials can not be achieved due to the pollutants emitted from edge of the sample so called, edge effect. This edge effect can be much greater when evaluating panels such as plywood, flooring due to their surface treatment. In this study, flooring was tested to check airtightness of the sample sealing box with analytic results between 1L and 20 L test chamber. Furniture materials like LPM coated one side surface treatment and MDF coated both sides surface treatment with LPM were tested to identify whether the improvement of the sample sealing box airtightness is possible with the comparison between existing and improved test method that low VOC emission tape was used to seal the sample edge. After 7 days, MDF TVOC emission rate was different according to the existence and nonexistence of tape. The emission rate of the existing test method was $0.009mg/m^2h$ and that of improved test method was $0.003mg/m^2h$. Relative standard deviation for the existing test method was $0.004mg/m^2h$ and relative standard deviation for the improved test method was $0.002mg/m^2h$ when the same sample was analyzed three times. The improved test method in this study using low VOC emission tape was effective and able to reduce the heterogeneous effect of the edge from the sample sealing box.

This paper presents the performance characteristics of a 1 kW solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack under various internal reforming and fuel utilization conditions. The Research Institute of Industrial Science & Technology (RIST) developed the 9-cell stack using a $20{\times}20cm^2$ anode supported planar cell with an active area of $324cm^2$. In this work, current-voltage characteristic test, fuel utilization test, continuous operation, and internal reforming test were carried out sequentially for 765 hours at a furnace temperature of $700^{\circ}C$. The influence of fuel utilization and internal reforming on the stack performance was analyzed. When the 1 kW stack was tested at a current of 145.8 A with a corresponding fuel utilization of 50-70% (internal reforming of 50%) and air utilization of 27%, the stack power was approximately 1.062-1.079 kW. Under continuous operation conditions, performance degradation rate was 2.16%/kh for 664 hours. The internal reforming characteristics of the stack were measured at a current of 145.8. A with a corresponding fuel utilization of 60-75%(internal reforming of 50-80%) and air utilization of 27%. As fuel utilization and internal reforming ratio increased, the stack power was decreased. The stack power change due to the internal reforming ratio difference was decreased with increasing fuel utilization.
In order to choose the manufacturing method for extracting alginates from sea tangle, Laminaria japonica, three methods were applied. In Method I, alginates were extracted with NaOH solution from sea tangle powder and extracted alginates were precipitated and converted to alginic acid by $CaCl_2$ and HCI solution. Then alginic acid was converted to sodium alginates with $Na_2CO_3$ solution. Sodium alginates were precipitated with methyl alcohol and were resolved with hot water and this step was repeated three times. Method II was same to Method I except final step including that sodium alginates were precipitated and washed with methyl alcohol three times. Method III included that sodium alginates were extracted with $Na_2CO_3$ solution from sea tangle powder then sodium alginates were precipitated and washed with methyl alcohol three time. Extracting time increased with Increasing extracted alginates amounts but increasing rates were below $0.4\%/h.$ Alginates amounts recovered by Method III showed above 2 times more to those by Method I and II. Extracting time increased with increasing ash amount of sodium alginates but increasing rates were below $0.1\%/h.$ and that of sodium alginates extracted by Method III showed higher value $(5\%)$ than those by Method I and II. In the sodium alginates prepared by Method III, the amount of ash in alginates dried by air was $34.4\%,$ that by vacuum freeze drying was $47.8\%.$ Extracting time increased with decreasing average molecular weight (MW) and degree of polymerization (DP) of sodium alginates, MW and DP of alginates prepared by Method III were higher than those by Method I and II In same extracting time. Extracting time increased with decreasing rate of apparent viscosity change (SAV) of alginates solution, and SAV of alginates prepared by Method III showed higher value than those by Method I and II in same extracting time. SAV of alginates dried by air was higher than that by vacuum freeze drying. Relating equation among SAV MW and DP were MW = 60.066 (SAV) -93.950, DP =309.760 (SAV) -485.084 and MW = 0.914 (DP)+0.213.

Thermal stress of livestock has been issued due to recent climate change trends and this causes reproductive disorders, decreased feed consumption, immunosuppression, and increased mortality of animals. Concept of THI has been widely used to quantitatively evaluate the degree of thermal stress for animals, however use of this concept is restricted for animals living in the enclosed facilities such as mechanically ventilated broiler houses. In this study, time-based internal energy flow and variation trends of temperature and humidity were analyzed based on BES technique. Local weather data, insulation characteristics of building materials, heat and moisture generation rate from broilers according to age, algorithm of ventilation operation were adopted for boundary condition of the model to accurately compute THI values inside the mechanically ventilated broiler house. From the BES computation, excess frequency of THI threshold in Jeju city was highest on the assumption that air conditioning equipments were not installed. When general raising density ($39kg\;m^{-2}$) was adopted, total 2,191 hours were exceeded. Excess hours of THI threshold were strongly related to the cumulative air temperature ($R^2=0.87$).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and improvement measures of the risk assessment system through a survey of asbestos abatement companies. Methods: This study prepared a questionnaire that includes improvement measures for the risk assessment system(six questions) and the necessity of a risk assessment system for asbestos abatement(one question). The questionnaire was sent to 2,170 asbestos abatement companies and returned by 83 companies(return rate = 3.8%). We conducted frequency analysis, ANOVA, and Chi-squared testing at the 5% significance level. Results: This study analyzed the survey results and identified six main opinions on the risk assessment system and improvement measures. First, giving an advantage to companies with a high grade(S and A grades) in public bidding and/or qualification screening showed a similar preference(agree: 50.6%, disagree: 49.4%). Second, 57.6% of the respondents wanted to allow air showers along with water showers for low risk asbestos work. However, 23.2% of the respondents asserted that only a water shower should be allowed since there is no scientific evidence supporting the removal of asbestos by air shower. Third, in order to prevent missing the enrollment of workers, simply submitting a change report should be allowed when any worker is changed (40.0%). Fourth, 43% of the respondents answered that they did not know how to calculate the proper number of negative pressure units. The reasons given were a lack of guidelines or standards(38.9%), inconvenience (36.1%), and absence of education(25%). Fifth, the respondents who were favorable toward the necessity of a risk assessment system gave higher scores compared to unfavorable respondents on the necessity of the management of workers' work history(favorable respondent = 3.96 out of 5, unfavorable respondent = 2.68) and the necessity of professional training for workers(favorable respondent = 3.71, unfavorable respondent = 2.56). Finally, the respondents favorable toward a risk assessment system showed higher scores on the awareness of calculating the proper number of negative pressure units(4.79) compared to unfavorable respondents(3.3). Conclusions: The opinions of asbestos abatement companies identified through the survey in this study can be usefully utilized as fundamental information to improve the risk assessment system.
