  • In this research, we study to find core factor of the perceived quality of internal quality and external quality factors on agriculture products and food industry. By empirical research, we prove that the perceived quality effects to the customer attitude on agricultural products and food Industry. The results of this research can contribute in working-level practical use about quality problem in agriculture products and food industry. The latest interest of customer attitude on agricultural products and food Industry is being rosed.

  • The insect industry in Korea is currently undergoing steady expansion. Among the various insects kept as pets or for educational purposes, four mantis species, including Hierodula patellifera (Audinet-Serville), Tenodera angustipennis Saussure, Tenodera sinensis Saussure, and Statilia maculata (Thunberg), are becoming increasingly popular, leading to higher demand. As we aimed to raise mantises, we collected oothecae, some of which were found to be parasitized by dermestid beetles. These parasitoids have been unequivocally identified as Thaumaglossa rufocapillata Redtenbacher based on morphological characters. A diagnosis, habitus photographs, and illustrations of diagnostic characters are provided to facilitate identification. We also present the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of T. rufocapillata for providing fundamental data for research aimed at controlling pests in the insect industry.

  • This study is to analyse marketing and industrial structure of meat processing industry and to examine it's current situation related to agriculture. For this purpose 1. This paper surveys the history of meat processing industry, and analyses current situation of meat processing industry, based upon economic statistic data. 2. For the research of marketing structure of meat processing products, this paper not only ciassifies into three catagories; the supply of raw meat, main marketing organization, and path, but measures magnitude of Marketing Bill and Farmer's Share practically through statistic data and an on-the-spot survey. 3. This study also attempt to explain the relation of meat processing industry and the other industry and role of meat processing industry is Korean economy by the use of input-output table. The results of the study are as follows; 1. The meat processing industry in Korea produces low quality, and expensive raw meat with limited quality, inefficiency of marketing structure, and unrelated livestock and meat processing industry. 2. Korea market structure of meat processing products has been changed into oligopoly from monopoly by a new corporation entered into monopoly and the size of meat processing market firms has been normalized. 3. Meat processing industry is very important considering with its high back-linkage-effect. In order to develop meat processing industry and marketing, it is essential that operation of intergrated meat market center, meat market center should be efficiently operated. The efficient utilization of domestic resource for raw meat and development of processing technique have to be required, by means of the governmental support.

Analysis of International Competitiveness of Chinese ginseng in Comparison with Korean ginseng (중국 인삼 산업의 국제 경쟁력 분석)

  • In this thesis we aim at analyzing international competitive power of Chinese ginseng in comparison with Korean ginseng and searching policy direction for Korea to compete Chinese ginseng industry. We summarized the research results as follows; First, we examine the structural change of ginseng industry of China. Second, we review the theories for international competitiveness and apply the method of analyzing competitiveness to ginseng industry. Third, we compared the international competitive power of the ginseng industry between China and Korea and found that Chinese ginseng, estimated by Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA) at about 15, still remains high competitiveness in terms of cost and price but lowering price competitiveness recently. Based on the research results, we suggest export promotion strategies of the Korean ginseng as follows; 1) Korean government should enforce trade cooperation with China so as to register Korean root ginseng an importable medicine. 2) Korean ginseng producer should develop various products such as capsules, powders and etc. according to China's consumer purchasing power and taste. 3) Korean ginseng should be sold as an differentiated commodity so that it will contribute to building consumer loyalty to Korean ginseng, makes market share superior to other cheaper ginseng products in China. 4) In order to be effective brand marketing and product advertisement, there should be established reliable networks to process and distribute Korean ginseng products exclusively.

Effects of Replacing Corn with Chinese Brown Rice on Growth Performance and Apparent Fecal Digestibility of Nutrients in Weanling Pigs

  • This experiment was conducted to study the effects of replacing corn with Chinese brown rice on performance and apparent fecal digestibility of nutrients in weanling pigs. Seventy-two cross-bred (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Large White) weanling pigs, weighing an average of $7.38{\pm}0.06kg$, were randomly assigned to either a corn-soybean meal diet (treatment 1), a corn-brown ricesoybean meal diet (treatment 2) and a brown rice-soybean meal diet (treatment 3). The brown rice used in this experiment was husked from one kind of early, long grain, non-glutinous rice (ELGNR, indica rice). The growth performance of weanling pigs in the experiment was similar during weeks 1 and 2, but feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly better in treatment 2 during weeks 3 and 4. During week 2, only the digestibility of organic matter in treatments 2 and 3 was significantly higher than that in treatment 1. During week 4, the digestibility of gross energy, ether extract, organic matter and dry matter in brown rice treatment, especially in treatment 3, were significantly higher than in treatment 1. At the end of the experiment, the concentration of serum urea nitrogen of pigs in treatment 2 was lower than that in treatment 1 and 3 and no difference was found in serum glucose and phosphorus. It could be concluded from this experiment that replacing 50% of corn with brown rice in the corn-soybean meal diet caused no negative effects to weanling pig performance, and apparent fecal digestibility was unaffected. It is feasible to replace corn with brown rice in weanling pig diets in southern China.

Determination of the energy contents and nutrient digestibility of corn, waxy corn and steam-flaked corn fed to growing pigs

  • Objective: The research was conducted to determine the digestible (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME) contents as well as the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients in corn, waxy corn and steam-flaked corn fed to growing pigs. Methods: Eighteen growing pigs with initial body weight of $15.42{\pm}1.41kg$ were randomly allotted to three diets including a corn diet, a waxy corn diet and a steam-flaked corn diet in a completely randomized design. Each treatment contained six replicates. The experiment lasted for 12 days, which comprised 7-d adaptation to diets followed by a 5-d total collection of feces and urine. The energy contents and the nutrient digestibility in three ingredients were calculated using direct method. Results: Compared to normal corn, both the amylose and dietary fiber contents in waxy corn were numerically lower, but the starch gelatinization degree was numerically greater. Moreover, the DE and ME contents as well as the ATTD of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber (ADF) in waxy corn were significantly greater (p<0.05) than those in normal corn when fed to growing pigs. Furthermore, the steam-flaked corn had greater (p<0.05) DE and ME contents, and ATTD of ether extract and ADF compared to normal corn. Conclusion: Both variety and processing procedure have influence on chemical compositions, energy contents and nutrient digestibility of corn. The waxy corn and steam-flaked corn had greater degree of starch gelatinization and DE and ME contents compared to normal corn when fed to growing pigs.

  • Ramie (Boehmeria nivea M.) has been used for fiber materials in Korea traditionally, but in recent years, the concern with ramie leaves for the food industry such as tteok (a kind of Korean rice cake) industry has been increasing, so a study for eatable ramie is required for the expansion of ramie consumption. Moreover, the ramie varieties for the food industry are not established, so the natural species are cultivated in general; therefore, it is very important to select the ramie varieties for the food industry such as rice cakes, tea, beverage and so on. This study was undertaken to compare the physiochemical properties among 9 ramie lines selected in the Yeonggwang-gun Agricultural Technology Center to select the eatable ramie varieties for the food industry. The contents of the protein among 9 ramie lines was 6.21~7.56% and had the highest content in the YG55. The folic acid (folate) and vitamin C content had varying differences among the 9 lines; the content of folate showed $771.52{\sim}1,978.84{\mu}g%$, that of vitamin C showed 149.42~275.34 mg%. The ACE inhibitory activity appeared to be the highest in YG88 (21.5%) among the 9 ramie varieties tested.

A Survey on Ergonomic Evaluation Methods of Agricultural Work for Preventing WMSDs

  • Objective: The aim of this paper is to introduce ergonomic evaluation methods for agricultural work. Background: Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders(WMSDs) became a major problem in agriculture industry recently. A number of ergonomics evaluation methods have been developed in order to evaluate the work load for preventing WMSDs. The workload evaluation methods were developed for manufacturing industry. Therefore, these ergonomic evaluation methods were used carefully in agriculture industry because work type in agriculture different from work type in manufacturing. Method: Various references of ergonomic evaluation methods such as OWAS, REBA, RULA, NLE and Snook table have been reviewed for agricultural work. Results: This paper presents the characteristics, the selection and application procedure of ergonomic evaluation methods for agricultural work. Application: These results can be used to provide baseline information for ergonomic evaluation methods.

A Study on Health Promotion Lifestyle, Farmers' Syndrome and Related Factors of Workers in Agricultural Industry (일 지역 농업 종사자의 건강증진 생활양식, 농부증 및 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify health promotion lifestyle (HPL), farmers' syndrome and related factors of workers in agricultural industry. Methods: A total of 454 agricultural workers were selected through convenient sampling. Data were collected from July 1 to August 10, 2009. Data analysis included frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: 1. The mean score of HPL was 3.30 and the prevalence of farmers' syndrome was 29.3%. 2. Analysis of farmers' syndrome showed there were statistically significant differences for gender, age, sleeping time, perceived health status, breakfast and exercise. 3. Gender, age, perceived health status, breakfast and exercise were identified as variables influencing the farmers' syndrome. Conclusion: This study suggested that we should develop health promotion programs for workers of agricultural industry considering these results.
