To delay the onset of apoptosis in the culture, transformed Tn 5B1-4 cells harboring anti-apoptotic genes, bcl-2 and baculovirus p35, have been established and analyzed for their anti-apoptotic ability in suspension culture using spinner flasks. In the suspension culture at agitation speeds of 100 rpm and 200 rpm, the cell growth of cell clone expressing Bcl-2 protein was much higher than other two clones and the maximum cell density of the clone was 6.0 ${\times}$ 10$^{6}$ cells/ml and 6.2 ${\times}$ 10$^{6}$ cells/ml at day three of the incubation. On the other hand, the cell growth of cell clone expressing baculovirus protein P35 was much higher than other two clones in suspension culture at agitation speed of 300 rpm and the maximum cell density of the clone was 6.1 ${\times}$ 10$^{6}$ cells/ml at day three of the incubation. Based on the pattern of genomic DNA laddering and the microscopic observation of apoptotic bodies, the more apoptotic bodies are induced in Tn 5B1-4 control cell clone at higher agitation speed. This result shows that the shear stress can be a main factor in inducing apoptosis in spinner flask culture. At low agitation speed, cell clone expressing Bcl-2 was more effective in delaying the onset of apoptosis than the cell clone expressing P35. On the other hand, at high agitation speed, cell clones expressing baculovirus P35 was more effective in delaying the onset of apoptosis than the cell clone expressing Bcl-2. Therefore, anti-apoptotic genes, bcl-2 and baculovirus p35, can playa distinct role depending on agitation speed in the suspension culture.
The effect of agitation speed on the production of mycelial growth and exo-biopolymer in bioreaetor culture was investigated. The maximum production of mycelia and exo-biopolymer was obtained at 350 rpm, where the maximum concentrations of mycelial growth and exo-biopolymer were 62 g/L and 23 g/L, respectively. The effect of agitation speed on the hyphal length and the number of tips was examined. The hyphal length and the number of tips of Cordyceps sinensis 16 in bioreaetor culture at 350 rpm were increased up to 660 ${\mu}m$ and 14/ml, respectively.
Antacid granules were prepared by agglomeration and powder method in high speed agitation type granulator. The copmositions of the test antacids were sodium bicarbonate nad magnesium carbonate nad a coating material was powder of polyvinylacetal diethyl-aminocacetate (AEA) and an additive material was talc powder. The dissolution characteristics of base from the antacid granules were investigated to evaluate neutralization capacity of hydrochloric profile of base and neutralization behavior, the following results were obtained : The prepared granules showed a pH-dependent dissolution pattern of a base. The dissolution profile of a base was varied with addition of talc powder as well as coating amount of AEA. The relationship between the ratio of dissolution retarded time for 20% and 10% AEA. The relationship between the ratio of dissolution retarded time for 20% AEA coated granules $\theta_{20}/\theta_{10}$ and the diameter reduction of the granules was explained by the rate process of neutralization of hydrochloric acid.
The main objective of this study is to evaluate adsorptive removal of Methylene Blue (MB) dye from aqueous solution using pumice powder. The effects of pH, adsorption time, agitation speed, adsorbent dose, and dye concentrations on dye adsorption were investigated. Process kinetics and isotherm model constants were determined accordingly. The results showed that adsorbent dose, dye concentration and agitation speed are the important parameters on dye adsorption and the removal of MB did not significantly change by varying pH. A total adsorption process time of 60 min was observed to be sufficient to effectively remove 50 mg/L MB concentration. The MB adsorption data obeyed both pseudo first order and second order kinetic models. Adsorption of MB by pumice fitted well both Langmiur and Freundlich isotherms ($R^2{\geq}0.9700$), except for 150 rpm agitation speed that system fitted only Langmiur isotherm. The results of this study emphasize that pumice powder can be used as a low cost and effective adsorbent for dye removal.

The effect of solution agitation on the copper electroless deposition process of ULSI (ultra large scale integration) interconnections was investigated by using physical, electrochemical and electrical techniques. It was found that proper solution agitation was effective to obtain superconformal copper configuration within the trenches of $130{\sim}80nm$ width. The transition of open potential during electroless deposition process showed that solution agitation induced compact structure of copper deposits by suppressing mass transfer of cuprous ions toward substrate. Also, the specific resistivity of copper layers was lowered by increasing agitation speed, which made the deposited copper particles smaller. Considering both copper deposit configuration and electric property, around 500 rpm of solution agitation was the most suitable for the homogeneous electroless copper filling within the ultra-fine patterns.
The effect of agitation speed and aeration rate on mTG production and cell growth by Streptoverticillum morbarense was investigated. Dissolved oxygen was controlled by on-line computer-controlled fermentation system. The agitation speed and aeration rate of 2.5 L fermentor ranged from 330 to 360 게m and 1 vvm to 4 vvm, respectively. The highest mTG production was 2.1 U/mL when dissolved oxygen level was 20%, and it was improved almost 1.1 times in comparison with that without dissolved uxygen control.

The physical characteristics of autonomic microcapsules manufactured with various agitation speeds in a stirred tank were observed experimentally by a particle size analyzer and an optical microscope. The flow characteristics in a stirred tank were also investigated through a 3-dimensional numerical simulation to understand the manufacturing process of autonomic microcapsules. According to the results, we found that the agitation speed was the important factor to determine the sizes of microcapsules. The impeller-induced flow allowed the jet and tip-vortex pair components in the mixed fluid of a stirred tank. The vorticity around the blades in the impeller was increased as increasing the agitation speed. In addition, the size of autonomic microcapsules was strongly affected on the small scale mixing pattern such as a tip-vortex pair.

The influence of agitation speed on the yeast growth was investigated in the production of probiotic feed from pulverized liquified food wastes by aerobic fermentation. A yeast Kluyvermyces marxianus was selected through a preliminary screening. The yeast was cultured by 2liter jar fermenter. in 10% solid(w/v) substrate of liquified food waste at $35^{\circ}C$ with each different agitation speed of 500, 900 and 1200 rpm. For the acceleration of enzyme excretion mixed culture with Aspergillus oryzae was also attempted and the results were compared to those of single culture. As results the viable cell number was increased by increasing agitation speed. But it showed highest value in 900rpm and then decreased in 1200rpm. The mixed culture increased amylase activity and growth rate, but did not seem to enhance the highest viable cell count in the final fermentation stage.

Gas hydrate has a unique property that can store a large volume of gas in water as a solid form. Even though investigations for natural gas storage technology have been carried out for several decades, there are still a lot of unsolved problems due to complex formation process, low formation speed, high energy consumption and so on. So, lots of experiments were conducted to overcome these weaknesses and to develop artificial NGH formation technology applicable to industrial-scale storage and commercial transport. In this study, some series of experiments were performed to analyze both stirred and unstirred system especially about the influences of several gas hydrate formation factors such as agitation speed, system temperature, SDS concentration, etc. As a result, optimum range of SDS concentration and temperature that could enhance the storage capacity and shorten the formation time were found. And it is obviously presented that SDS such a kind of surfactant promotes gas hydrate formation dramatically and the quantity of stored gas are proportional to agitation speed in stirred system.

Decolourization potential of white rot fungal organism, coriolus versicolor, was investigated in a batch reactor, for textile dye industry wastewater. The influence of process parameters like pH, temperature, agitation speed and dye wastewater concentration on the decolourization of textile dye wastewater was examined by using Response surface methodology (RSM). The maximum decolourization was attained at: pH- 6.8, temperature - $27.9^{\circ}C$, agitation speed - 160 rpm and dye wastewater concentration - 1:2. From the analysis of variance (ANOVA) results it was found that, the linear effect of agitation speed and dye wastewater concentration were significant for the decolourization of textile dye wastewater. At these optimized condition, the maximum decolourization and chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction was found to be 64.4% and 79.8% respectively. Various external carbon sources were tried to enhance the decolourization of textile dye wastewater. It was observed that the addition of carbon source enhances the decolourization of textile dye wastewater. Kinetics of textile dye degradation process was studied by first order and diffusional model. From the results it was found that the degradation follows first order model with $R^2$ value of 0.9430.
