  • The proportion of overweight and obese individuals in the United States has been continuously increasing up to recently. Many studies related to obesity have concentrated on jurisdictional levels of aggregation, making it very difficult to dearly illustrate at risk regions. In other words, little research has been conducted in relation to spatial patterns considering spatial dependency and heterogeneity by spatial autocorrelation models over space. In response, this research analyzes spatial patterns between overweight/obesity and risk factors, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, over space. Specifically, the Moran''s I and Geary''s C will be conducted for global and local measures. What is more, the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) linear regression and Geographically Weighted Regression methods will be applied to identify spatial dependency and spatial heterogeneity. Data provided by the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) have Body-Mass Index (BMI) rates, containing 4 rates of under, healthy, overweight, and obesity. In addition, high blood pressure and diabetes rates in the United States will be used as independent variables. Lastly, we are confident that this research will be beneficial for a decision maker to make a prevention plan for obesity.

  • In this paper, a power-aware query processing using optimized distributed R-tree in a sensor network is proposed. The proposed technique is a new approach for processing range queries that uses spatial indexing. Range queries are most often encountered under sensor networks for computing aggregation values. The previous work just addressed the importance but didn't provide any efficient technique for processing range queries. A query processing scheme is thus designed for efficiently processing them. Each node in the sensor network has the MBR of the region where its children nodes and the node itself are located. The range query is evaluated over the region which intersects the geographic location of sensors. It ensures the maximum power savings by avoiding the communication of nodes not participating over the evaluation of the query.

  • Background: Health disparities exist among and within countries, while developing and low income countries suffer more. The aim of this study was to quantify cancer disparities with regard to socioeconomic position (SEP) in 22 districts of Tehran, Iran. Method: According to the national cancer registry, 7599 new cancer cases were recorded within 22 districts of Tehran in 2008. Based on combined data from census and a population-based health equity study (Urban HEART), socioeconomic position (SEP) was calculated for each district. Index of disparity, absolute and relative concentration indices (ACI & RCI) were used for measuring disparities in cancer incidence. Results: The overall cancer age standardised rate (ASR) was 117.2 per 100,000 individuals (120.4 for men and 113.5 for women). Maximum ASR in both genders was seen in districts 6, 3, 1 and 2. Breast, colorectal, stomach, skin and prostate were the most common cancers. Districts with higher SEP had higher ASR (r=0.9, p<0.001). Positive ACI and RCI indicated that cancer cases accumulated in districts with high SEP. Female disparity was greater than for men in all measures. Breast, colorectal, prostate and bladder ASR ascended across SEP groups. Negative ACI and RCI in cervical and skin cancers in women indicate their aggregation in lower SEP groups. Breast cancer had the highest absolute disparities measure. Conclusion: This report provides an appropriate guide and new evidence on disparities across geographical, demographic and particular SEP groups. Higher ASR in specific districts warrants further research to investigate the background predisposing factors.

  • Investigations related with factors influencing root and crown rot are rare and mainly related to farming practice and soil management. The main objective of this study was to examine broader range of factors influencing stem-base infestation of winter wheat in the field conditions. The effect of spatial distribution of infected plants on disease index (DIs) assessments was also investigated. Analysis of factors influencing DIs of crown rot of wheat demonstrated significant influence of the growing seasons (P < 0.001) and extreme fluctuations in winter temperatures (P < 0.001). In addition to that, localities together with their interaction with the growing season also significantly influenced DIs (P < 0.001). Aggregation of infected plants influenced variability of DI estimations, and it was pointed out that more extensive investigation should be conducted on broad range of DI in order to establish sampling method giving uniform sampling precision. Fusarium graminearum was shown to be predominant Fusarium species in Serbia (72.6%) using sequence-characterized amplified region analysis. Interestingly F. oxysporum was isolated in higher frequencies (27.4%) than it was reported in the literature. Given that there were no reports on the diversity of Fusarium species causing crown rot of wheat in Serbia, this study presents first report on this important subject. It also indicated that more attention should be focused on combined effects of abiotic and biotic factors influencing stem-base infestation of winter wheat. This knowledge will contribute to better understanding of factors influencing root and crown rot of wheat which would ensure sustainable disease management in the future.

  • With proliferation of diverse network access technologies, users demands are also increasing and service providers are offering a Quality of Service (QoS) to satisfy their customers. In roaming, a mobile node (MN) traverses number of available networks in the heterogeneous wireless networks environment and a single operator is not capable to fulfill the demands of user. It is crucial task for MN for selecting a best network from the list of networks at any time anywhere. A MN undergoes a network selection situation frequently when it is becoming away from the home network. Multiple Attribute Group Decision (MAGD) method will be one of the best ways for selecting target network in heterogeneous wireless networks (4G). MAGD network selection process is predominantly dependent on two steps, i.e., attribute weight, decision maker's (DM's) weight and aggregation of opinion of DMs. This paper proposes Multi-Attribute Intuitionistic Fuzzy Group Decision Method (MAIFGDM) using TOPSIS for the selection of the suitable candidate network. It is scalable and is able to handle any number of networks with large set of attributes. This is a method of lower complexity and is useful for real time applications. It gives more accurate result because it uses Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets (IFS) with an additional parameter intuitionistic fuzzy index or hesitant degree. MAIFGDM is simulated in MATLAB for its evaluation. A comparative study of MAIFDGM is also made with TOPSIS and Fuzzy-TOPSIS in respect to decision delay. It is observed that MAIFDGM have low values of decision time in comparison to TOPSIS and Fuzzy-TOPSIS methods.

  • Data on the spatial distribution of a plant population among administrative areas is useful for various purposes. In this study, I analyzed the spatial distribution of the geographical distances of Carex siderosticta at Mt. Geumjeong and Mt. Ahop in Korea. The aim was to test a spatial structure within two populations of C. siderosticta. Most natural plots of C. siderosticta are not uniformly distributed in the forest community; for example, uniform plots were aggregately distributed within a space of 6.0 m $\times$ 6.0 m. When the sampling plots were larger than 6.0 m $\times$ 12.0 m, the individuals of C. siderosticta were aggregately distributed. The neighboring patches of C. siderosticta were predominantly 7.5 m to 9.0 m apart, on average; however, if the natural populations were disturbed by human activities, the aggregation occurred in shorter distances than a scale of 9.0 m. Moran's I of C. siderosticta significantly differed from the expected value in only 16 of 40 cases (40%). In conclusion, the geographical distribution of C. siderosticta is not even, with varying degrees of size in the plots, while human activities give rise to density effects in the plots at both Mt. Geumjeong and Mt. Ahop in Korea.

  • The ballasted flocculation effects of the mill scale and magnetite on activated sludge were investigated. Both ballasted flocculants (BF) could remarkably improve the sludge settleability in terms of zone settling velocity (ZSV) and sludge volume index (SVI). With the BF dosage of 0.2 to 2.0 g-BF/g-SS, the magnetite particles showed better efficiency on improving settling behavior of activated sludge than the mill scale due to higher surface area and hydrophobic property. The efficiency of SVI30 with magnetite injection was 2.5 to 11.3% higher than mill scale injection and that of the ZSV appreciated from 23.7% to 44.4% for magnetite injection. Averaged floc size of the BF sludge with magnetite dosage (0.5 g-BF/g-SS) was 2.3 times higher than that of the control sludge. Dewaterability of the sludge was also greatly improved by addition of the BF. The specific resistance to filtration (SRF) was reduced exponentially with increasing the dosage of BF. However, the BF's particle size effect on the SRF looks to be marginal. Consequently, for improving the dewaterability, the BF played a physical role to remove the pore water of the biological flocs by intrusive attachment and a chemical role to induce aggregation of the flocs by charge neutralization.

  • Simultaneous removal reaction for NOx, soot over Pt catalysts using various $TiO_2$ as support was studied. The catalytic tests ware carried out injectin NO, soot, NO and soot simultaneously on each catalysts. As results, it showed different NOx removal efficiency and soot oxidation rate according to various kinds of $TiO_2$. Onset temperature of soot oxidation has a correlation to $NO_2$ generated for the independently performed NOx. It was investigated that NO to $NO_2$ oxidation was intimately related to crystallite size and surface area, and it has a tremendous impact on Pt aggregation on the catalyst surface and catalyst' reducibility. Therefore, we concluded that major index of the reaction was physico-chemical properties of catalyst' supports.

  • In this study, the optimization of the manufacturing process for the oil-in-water emulsification of rice bran oil was performed by response surface methodology (RSM) using varying amounts of the emulsifier (0.05-0.25%), varying rotation speeds of the homomixer (4,000-8,000 rpm), and varying water to oil ratios (0.8-1.6%) as independent variables, and the emulsion stability index (ESI) as the dependent variable. The optimization conditions predicted by the RSM model were 0.2%g of the total amount of the rice bran oil emulsion, emulsified at the homomixer rotation speed of 6,700 rpm using a water to oil ratio of 1:3. The ESI of the rice bran oil emulsion prepared under the optimized conditions was 95.7%, which was similar to the predicted value of 94.4% obtained by the RSM model. The transmission stability and the backscattering values were found to agree with each other over time and the turbiscan stability index was less than 0.7, indicating that the aggregation and upper floatation were less while the dispersion stability was maintained.

  • Prostaglandin $E_1$($PGE_1$) is known to have various physiological action such as vasodilatation, decrease of blood pressure, angiogenesis, inhibition of platelet aggregation and so forth. $PGE_1$ has been developed in many different formulations in order to overcome its chemical instability and deactivation in the lungs when administered parenterally. Lipo-AS013 is a potent drug with higher chemical stability and greater vascular wall targeting than others. The study was done on $3{\times}10cm$ model flap of dorsal skin of Sprague-Dawley rats and the flap perfusion survival were observed and documented. The flap treated with Lipo-AS013 beforehand was given intravenously Sodium fluorescein 10 minutes later, and then Percent Dye Fluorescence Index(% DFI) was calculated. The results were compared to a control group and the group administered locally epinephrine.. In the control group, the % DFI and flap survival rate increased from $54.1{\pm}6.7$ to $65.0{\pm}2.6$(p<0.01) while in Lipo-AS013 group from $55.3{\pm}2.2$ to $67.4{\pm}1.9$(p<0.01), respectively. In the epinephrine group, the % DFI(p<0.05) and flap survival rate(p<0.001) decreased. In the both epinephrine and Lipo-AS013 group Percent DFI and flap survival rate are comparable with the control group. The result indicates that the potent Lipo-AS013 enhances the blood flow and flap survival. This highly potent Lipo-AS013 may have targeting ability and accumulate $PGE_1$ onto the vascular walls. A quantitative analysis of fluorescence on the skin surface is a reliable tool to measure the blood perfusion into an ischemic flap and its viability. Further comparative study with conventional $PGE_1$ and Lipo-$PGE_1$ is needed in order to clarify the action and efficiency of Lipo-AS013.
