The 131Cs radioisotope with a short half-life time and high average radiation energy can treat the cancer effectively in prostate brachytherapy. The typical 131Cs production processes have a separation step of the cesium from 131Ba to obtain a high specific radioactivity. Herein, we suggested a novel 131Cs separation method based on the Ba2+ adsorption of alginate beads. It is necessary to reduce the affinity of alginate beads to cesium ions for a high production yield. The carboxyl group of the alginate beads was replaced by a sulfonate group to reduce the cesium affinity while reinforcing their affinity to barium ions. The modified beads exhibited superior Ba2+ adsorption performances to native beads. In the fixed-bed column tests, the saturation time and adsorption capacity could be estimated with the Yoon-Nelson model in various injection flow rates and initial concentrations. In terms of the Cs elution, the modified alginate showed better performance (i.e., an elution over 88%) than the native alginate (i.e., an elution below 10%), indicating that the functional group modification was effective in reducing the affinity to cesium ions. Therefore, the separation of cesium from the barium using the modified alginate is expected to be an additional option to produce 131Cs.
Purpose - The research is aimed at investigating the dynamics of economic cooperation among countries which share historical and genetic affinity. Research design, data, and methodology - The study analyzed historical and genetic affinity after reviewing related thesis data on countries with historical relations studied by domestic historians. After that, it was applied to the method of designating the counterparts for economic cooperation and suggesting economic cooperation measures within a comprehensive range. Results - Economic cooperation with the counterparts should complement the ongoing economic cooperation with each country among their planned national strategies. Korea proposes such matters in a way that cooperates and develops to obtain mutual economic benefits. Among the associated countries, Mongolia is for the underground resource processing industry, Turkey for the investment of companies advancing into neighboring countries, Kazakhstan for the diversification of business centered on the manufacturing industry, Uzbekistan for the modernization and diversification of industrial production, Turkmenistan for the localization of resource-based industries and Export promotion, Hungary for the increase in investment in line with the East-ward policy, Finland is for the cooperation in the knowledge-based industry. Conclusion - This economic cooperation can raise Korea's international status to the next level and further strengthen our voice right in the international community.
This study developed a structural model to examine the relationships among consumer traits, self-brand connections, and purchase intentions for local fashion brands under "Guochao" consumption in China. An online survey with a self-administered questionnaire was undertaken through Chinese SNS tools to collect the data. A total of 276 usable responses were obtained from Chinese consumers who are residents in China. More females(n=174, +63%) than males (n=102, 37%) participated, and they were aged from 18 to 45 years old. The measurement model was confirmed to be reliable and valid. In the estimated structural model, the consumer traits of ethnocentrism and cultural affinity positively affected the self-brand connection, leading to purchase intentions for the local fashion brands. Specifically, the ethnocentrism factor indirectly affected the purchase intentions by mediating the self-brand connection, while the cultural affinity factor had significant direct effects on purchase intentions. Thus, a partial mediating effect of self-brand connection was found in the relationship between the consumer traits(ethnocentrism and cultural affinity) and purchase intentions of local fashion brands in the cultural "Guochao" consumption context. This study provides insights into extending the cultural theory of ethnocentrism relevant to self-brand connections and discusses the managerial implications for developing strategic global branding in the Chinese fashion markets.
Liposome-amino acid conjugates were prepared using dipalmitolyphosphatidylcholine(DPPC) and hydrophobically modified asparagine. A microdialyzer was used to measure glucose diffusion. The glucose binding affinity of DPPC-ODA-asparagine liposomes higher than that of DPPC liposomes and distilled water. The size of DPPC-ODA-asparagine was approximately 75-150 nm. Cholesterol increased the stability of liposomes, and reduced the size of liposome particles.

Aptamers are oligonucleotides or peptide molecules that are able to bind to their specific target molecules with high affinity via molecular recognition. In this study, we present development of aptamer-based precipitation assays (or simply aptamoprecipitation) for His-tagged proteins and thrombin to compare their purification efficiency with other conventional affinity precipitation methods. A crosslinking method was employed to immobilize thiol-functionalized aptamers onto the surface of polystyrene resins, enabling them to specifically bind to His-tag and to thrombin, respectively. The resulting aptamer-functionalized resins were successfully applied via a one-step experiment to purification of His-tagged proteins from complex E. coli and to thrombin extraction, exhibiting superior or at least comparable purification results to the conventional immobilized metal affinity precipitation or immunoprecipitation.
To investigate the role of heparin in keratinocyte growth factor (KGF) and acidic fibroblast growth factor (aFGF) high affinity binding to the KGF receptor (KGFR), a cell free system was established which utilized a secreted chimeric molecule between the KGFR extracellular domain and the immunoglobulin heavy chain Fc domain (KGFR-HFc). KGFR-HFc was purified from NIH 3T3 cells and demonstrated the binding of $[^3H]-heparin$ as well as heparin Sepharose. Scatchard analysis showed that the dissociation constant for heparin binding to KGFR-HFc was 140 nM. High affinity KGF and aFGF binding to KGFR-HFc remained unchanged after treatment with 0.6 M NaCl, which is the concentration sufficient to release any bound heparin to the KGFR-HFc. These results strongly suggest that although the KGFR interacts with heparin, the presence of heparin is not absolutely required for high affinity binding of either KGF or aFGF to the KGFR.
A modified actinomycin D was prepared with a hydroxyl group that replaced the amino group at the chromophore 2-position, a substitution known to strongly reduce affinity for double-stranded DNA. Interactions of the modified drug on single-stranded DNAs of the defined sequence were investigated. Competition assays showed that 2-hydroxyactinomycin D has low affinity for two oligonucleotides that have high affinities ($K_a\;=\;5-10{\times}10^6\;M^{-1}$ oligomer) for 7-aminoactinomycin D and actinomycin D. Primer extension inhibition assays performed on several single-stranded DNA templates totaling around 1000 nt in length detected a single high affinity site for 2-hydroxyactinomycin D, while many high affinity binding sites of unmodified actinomycin D were found on the same templates. The sequence selectivity of 2-hydroxyactinomycin D binding is unusually high and approximates the selectivity of restriction endonucleases. Binding appears to require a complex structure, including residues well removed from the polymerase pause site.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the influence of social media affinity on eating attitudes and body dissatisfaction among adolescents in the Philippines. Methods: The participants were 114 junior high school students enrolled in 7th to 10th grade in Cavite Province, Philippines. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS, using descriptive statistics, the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple linear regression. Results: The factors affecting eating attitudes were body dissatisfaction (β=-.47, p<.001), social media affinity (β=.33, p<.001) and grade (10th grade) (β=-.28, p<.001), and the factors influencing body dissatisfaction were eating attitudes (β=-.65, p<.001) and social media affinity (β=.17, p=.041). Conclusion: In order to promote healthy eating attitudes and to improve body satisfaction among Philippine adolescents, educational strategies tailored to social media users will be needed.
A previous study on a yeast protein tyrosine phosphatase, YPTP1, using synthetic phosphotyrosine-containing peptides with various sequences as substrates revealed that DADEpYDA exhibits high affinity ($K_m=4{\mu}M$) toward the enzyme. A modified version of this peptide, GDADEpmFDA, immobilized on a resin, was used in this study as an affinity ligand for the purification of YPTP1. Phosphonomethyl-phenylalanine (pmF) was used as a nonhydrolyzable analog of the phosphotyrosine (pY) residue, with properties similar to pY. A protected form of pmF, $Fmoc-pmF(^{t}Bu)_{2}-OH$, was chemically synthesized and introduced during solid-phase peptide sythesis. YPTP1 was onrexpressed in an E. coli strain carrying a plasmid pT7-7-ptpl. Affinity chromatography of the crude lysate afforded PTPI (39 kDa) of about 50% purity.
The lipopolysaccharide (LPS) yields were measured in Rhodobacter capsulatus under several conditions by the ELISA method. The purification of LPS was done by affinity chromatography of IgG coupled CNBr-activated sepharose-4B instead of ultra-centrifugation. The purity of the LPS didn't show much difference between affinity chromatography and ultra-centrifugation method, but affinity chromatography method required much fewer organisms and was more convenient. LPS yield was measured in ng units by the ELISA method. Mannitol was a better single carbon source than other sugars, but mixing two carbon sources resulted in greater LPS yields than any sugar alone. LPS yield was directly proportional to $NH_ 4CI$ concentration, with optimum yields at 0.05% nitrogen. In contrest to LPS yields, which decreased at 0.005% nitrogen concentration total protein was increased 16 times. Calcium influenced LPS yields. At 0.7 mM $CaCI_ 2$, the LPS yield was 16.5 $\mu$g/mg DW, five times the yield without calcium.
