Analysis of vortex induced vibration frequency of super tall building based on wind tunnel tests of MDOF aero-elastic model

  • To study the vibration frequency of super high-rise buildings in the process of vortex induced vibration (VIV), wind tunnel tests of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) aero-elastic models were carried out to measure the vibration frequency of the system directly. The effects of structural damping, wind field category, mass density, reduced wind velocity ($V_r$), as well as VIV displacement on the VIV frequency were investigated systematically. It was found that the frequency drift phenomenon cannot be ignored when the building is very high and flexible. When $V_r$ is less than 8, the drift magnitude of the frequency is typically positive. When $V_r$ is close to the critical wind velocity of resonance, the frequency drift magnitude becomes negative and reaches a minimum at the critical wind velocity. When $V_r$ is larger than12, the frequency drift magnitude almost maintains a stable value that is slightly smaller than the fundamental frequency of the aero-elastic model. Furthermore, the vibration frequency does not lock in the vortex shedding frequency completely, and it can even be significantly modified by the vortex shedding frequency when the reduced wind velocity is close to 10.5.

  • The global performance of the 5 MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine in random waves with or without steady/dynamic winds is numerically simulated by using the turbine-floater-mooring fully coupled dynamic analysis program FAST-CHARM3D in time domain. The numerical simulations are based on the complete second-order diffraction/radiation potential formulations along with nonlinear viscous-drag force estimations at the body's instantaneous position. The sensitivity of hull motions and mooring dynamics with varying wave-kinematics extrapolation methods above MWL(mean-water level) and column drag coefficients is investigated. The effects of steady and dynamic winds are also illustrated. When dynamic wind is added to the irregular waves, it additionally introduces low-frequency wind loading and aerodynamic damping. The numerically simulated results for the 5 MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine by FAST-CHARM3D are also extensively compared with the DeepCWind model-test results by Technip/NREL/UMaine. Those numerical-simulation results have good correlation with experimental results for all the cases considered.

CFD를 이용한 유도탄 덮개 형상의 공력 미계수 예측 (Prediction of Aerodynamic Stability Derivatives of Shell Configuration of Missile Using CFD Method)

  • In this study, pitching stability derivatives of the conical shell configuration is predicted using commercial CFD code. Unsteady flow analysis with forced harmonic motion of the model is performed using overset mesh. The test is conducted about Basic finner missile configuration. The static and dynamic stability derivatives are good agreement with available experimental data. As the same way, a conical shell is analyzed in Mach number 1.6 and various reduced frequency. The static and dynamic derivatives are obtained from the time-pitching moment coefficient histories in each of four cases of mean angle of attack. The variation of reduced frequency is not affected static and dynamic derivatives. Increasing the mean angle of attack, static derivatives are increased slowly. Comparison of the Cm curves at the steady and unsteady state results shows that the Cm curve including the damping effect is lower than otherwise case, approximately 9-18 %.

Stability behavior of the transmission line system under incremental dynamic wind load

  • Wind load is the principal cause for a large number of the collapse of transmission lines around the world. The transmission line is traditionally designed for wind load according to a linear equivalent method, in which dynamic effects of wind are not appropriately included. Therefore, in the present study, incremental dynamic analysis is utilized to investigate the stability behavior of a 400 kV transmission line under wind load. In that case, the effects of vibration of cables and aerodynamic damping of cables were considered on the stability behavior of the transmission line. Superposition of the harmonic waves method was used to calculate the wind load. The corresponding wind speed to the beginning of the transmission line collapse was determined by incremental dynamic analysis. Also, the effect of the yawed wind was studied to determine the critical attack angle by the incremental dynamic method. The results show the collapse mechanisms of the transmission line and the maximum supportable wind speed, which is predicted 6m/s less than the design wind speed of the studied transmission line. Based on the numerical modeling results, a retrofitting method has been proposed to prevent failure of the tower members under design wind speed.

축소형 무힌지 로터 시험에 관한 연구 (A Study on Experimental Test of a Small Scale Hingeless Rotor)

  • 축소화된 사각형 및 패들형 블레이드, 금속재 및 복합재 허브와 같은 물리적인 축소형 형상의 변화에 따른 실물크기 무힌지 로터의 하중특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 이를 위하여 축소형 로터 모델을 활용한 정적시험, 지상 및 풍동시험을 수행하였다. 정적시험은 구조강성 및 관성특성, 고유진동수 및 감쇄율을 확인하기 위해 수행하였으며, 지상 및 풍동시험은 정지 및 전진 비행조건에서 안정성 및 공력특성을 확인하기 위해 수행하였다. 시험결과에 따르면, 동일한 조건에서 축소형 복합재 허브와 패들형 블레이드를 결합한 경우가 수직하중이 더 높았다. 축소형 복합재 허브와 패들형 블레이드가 결합된 형태가 금속재 허브의 결합된 형태보다 패들형 블레이드의 운동을 더 유연하게 구속하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Study on post-flutter state of streamlined steel box girder based on 2 DOF coupling flutter theory

  • The post-flutter state of streamlined steel box girder is studied in this paper. Firstly, the nonlinear aerodynamic self-excited forces of the bridge deck cross section were investigated by CFD dynamic mesh technique and then the nonlinear flutter derivatives were identified on this basis. Secondly, based on the 2-degree-of-freedom (DOF) coupling flutter theory, the torsional amplitude and the nonlinear flutter derivatives were introduced into the traditional direct flutter calculation method, and the original program was improved to the "post-flutter state analysis program" so that it can predict not only the critical flutter velocity but also the movement of the girder in the post-flutter state. Finally, wind tunnel tests were set to verify the method proposed in this paper. The results show that the effect of vertical amplitude on the nonlinear flutter derivatives is negligible, but the torsional amplitude is not; with the increase of wind speed, the post-flutter state of streamlined steel box girder includes four stages, namely, "little amplitude zone", "step amplitude zone", "linearly growing amplitude zone" and "divergence zone"; damping ratio has limited effect on the critical flutter velocity and the steady state response in the post-flutter state; after flutter occurs, the vibration form is a single frequency vibration coupled with torsional and vertical DOF.

  • 본 논문에서는 비정상 공기력을 모델링하기위해 Peters-He의 동적유입류모델을 고려한 2차원 준정상 공기력 이론을 적용하여 회전익기 전진비행에 대한 공탄성 해석을 수행하였다. 또한, 공력탄성학적 안정성 해석을 수행하기 위하여, 전진비행 시 주기적인 특성을 갖는 비선형 정적 트림 해를 얻기 위해 동체 평형을 고려한 연계 트림 해석을 통한 완전 유한요소 방정식을 이용하였다. 동적유입류모델의 공력과 구조 특성을 검증하기 위해 유도 유입류와 깃끝에서의 구조변형을 타 수치해석결과와 비교하였다. 또한, 공탄성 안정성을 검증하기 위해 두 모델의 래그 감쇠값을 비교하였다.

기압 고도의 정밀도 향상을 위한 정압 오차 모델에 관한 연구 (Study on Static Pressure Error Model for Pressure Altitude Correction)

  • 무인기의 INS/GPS/기압고도계 결합항법 시스템에서 수직채널감쇠루프를 사용하여 고도 오차를 보정할 때 비행 고도의 오차를 감소시키기 위해서 기압고도계의 정밀도를 향상시켜야한다. 피토정압관을 사용하여 기압 고도를 측정할 때 비행 속도와 자세 등의 변화에 따라 피토정압관 주위의 압력이 변하여 정압 오차에 의한 기압 고도의 오차를 유발한다. 정압 오차를 보정하기 위하여 풍동 시험과 CFD, 비행 시험 등의 자료를 이용하여 피토정압관 측정 압력의 변화를 분석하고 받음각과 비행 속도에 따른 압력 오차의 모델을 수립하였다. 비행 속도 변화에 의한 오차를 보정하기 위하여 피토정압관의 차압과 차압/정압 비를 사용한 두 가지 오차 모델에 대하여 압력 섭동에 대한 민감도 해석을 하였고 비행 시험에 적용하여 차압/정압 비를 사용한 모델이 고고도 비행 특성이 우수하다는 결론을 얻었다.

  • 700미터 이상의 높이와 160층 이상으로 설계된 버즈두바이가 완공되면 버즈두바이는 인간이 건축한 건축물 중에서 최고높이의 건축물이 될 것이다. 바람의 동적효과를 완화하고 제어시키는 것이 가장 중요한 설계요소중의 하나이며, 설계초기의 공기역학적 형상과 풍공학에 대한 고려가 이러한 주상복합건물의 건축적 형상 및 디자인에 있어 큰 역할을 하는 반면, 건물의 구조시스템을 위한 재료 선택 또한 디자인의 중요한 요소이고 그 다음으로 세부적인 재료기술에 대한 평가 및 기술자 수급이 요구되어진다. 콘크리트는 콘크리트의 강도, 강성, 감쇠, 잉여력, 형틀성, 내화성, 시공성, 원가 등을 고려하여 선정된다. 이 논문은 콘크리트를 활용한 구조시스템을 적용하면서의 설계적으로 도전되었던 부분과 버즈두바이의 콘크리트공사의 초기계획에 대해 집중적으로 다룰 것이다.

Capacity assessment of existing corroded overhead power line structures subjected to synoptic winds

  • The physical infrastructure of the power systems, including the high-voltage transmission towers and lines as well as the poles and wires for power distribution at a lower voltage level, is critical for the resilience of the community since the failures or nonfunctioning of these structures could introduce large area power outages under the extreme weather events. In the current engineering practices, single circuit lattice steel towers linked by transmission lines are widely used to form power transmission systems. After years of service and continues interactions with natural and built environment, progressive damages accumulate at various structural details and could gradually change the structural performance. This study is to evaluate the typical existing transmission tower-line system subjected to synoptic winds (atmospheric boundary layer winds). Effects from the possible corrosion penetration on the structural members of the transmission towers and the aerodynamic damping force on the conductors are evaluated. However, corrosion in connections is not included. Meanwhile, corrosion on the structural members is assumed to be evenly distributed. Wind loads are calculated based on the codes used for synoptic winds and the wind tunnel experiments were carried out to obtain the drag coefficients for different panels of the transmission towers as well as for the transmission lines. Sensitivity analysis is carried out based upon the incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) to evaluate the structural capacity of the transmission tower-line system for different corrosion and loading conditions. Meanwhile, extreme value analysis is also performed to further estimate the short-term extreme response of the transmission tower-line system.
