  • This research suggested the traffic signal timing calculation model for signal intersections based on sectional travel time. A detection system that collects sectional travel time data such as Urban Transport Information System(UTIS) is applied. This research developed the model to calculate saturation flow rate and demand volume from travel time information using a deterministic delay model. Moreover, this model could determine the traffic signal timings to minimize a delay based on Webster model using traffic demand volume. In micro simulation analysis using VISSIM and its API ComInterface, it checked the saturation conditions and determined the traffic signal timings to minimize the intersection delay. Recently, sectional vehicle detection systems are being installed in various projects, such as Urban Transportation Information System(UTIS) and Advanced Transportation Management System(ATMS) in Korea. This research has important contribution to apply the traffic information system to traffic signal operation sector.

  • This paper proposes a method for detecting the direction indicator shown in the road surface efficiently from the black box system installed on the vehicle. In the proposed method, the direction indicators are detected by inverse perspective mapping(IPM) and bag of visual features(BOF)-based NN classifier. In order to apply the proposed method to real-time environments, the candidated regions of direction indicator in an image only performs IPM, and BOF-based NN is used for the classification of feature information from direction indicators. The results of applying the proposed method to the road surface direction indicators detection and recognition, the detection accuracy was presented at least about 89%, and the method presents a relatively high detection rate in the various road conditions. Thus it can be seen that the proposed method is applied to safe driving support systems available.

  • An active steering bogie has been theoretically proved to improve both stability and steering performance remarkably. However, It has not been commercialized yet even though many researchers have been trying to develop it because some technical difficulties still exist such as information acquisition fer active control, increasing mechanical components, high energy consumption, fail-safe problem and so on. To solve those problems, an advanced active steering mechanism is proposed in this paper. With this mechanism, required control force is small enough to use direct drives. Therefore, the number of additional mechanical components can be minimized since mechanical transducers like gears are not necessary. Fail-safe function can be also inserted easily. In this paper, concept design of the proposed active steering bogie is introduced and the possibility is verified through computer simulation using linear dynamic model.

  • Although non-real time simulation and pilot based evaluations are available for the development of flight control computer prior to real flight tests, there are still many risky factors. The control law designed for prototype aircraft often leads to degraded performance from the initial design objectives, therefore, the proper evaluation methods should be applied such that flight control law designed can be verified in real flight environment. The one proposed in this paper is IFS(In-Flight Simulator). Currently, this system has been implemented into the F-18 HARV(High Angle of Attack Research Vehicle), SU-27 and F-16 VISTA(Variable stability. In flight Simulation Test Aircraft) programs. This paper addresses the concept of switching mechanism for FLCC(Flight Control Computer)-SWMC(Switching Mechanism Computer) using 1553B communication based on flight control law of advanced supersonic trainer. And, the fader logic of TFS(Transient Free Switch) and stand-by mode of reset '0' type are designed to reduce abrupt transient and minimize the integrator effect in pitch axis control law. It hans been turned out from the pilot evaluation in real time that the aircraft is controllable during the inter-conversion process through the flight control computer, and level 1 handling qualities are guaranteed. In addition, flight safety is maintained with an acceptable transient response during aggressive maneuver performed in severe flight conditions.

  • In this paper, to satisfy the temperature requirement of turbopump-inlet condition, the cooling of cryogenic propellant is performed at the simulated suction-line of the Launch Vehicle. The cooling method is by using Gas helium injection. This study investigates the effect of helium injection on the liquid nitrogen which simulates the liquid oxygen. By using helium injection, the subcooling of liquid nitrogen can be achieved within four minute when the ratio of gas volume flowrate to the volume of L$N_2$ is approximately v/v$_{L}$≒0.8min$^{-1}$ . .

  • Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (S-DMB) is the digital convergence service of broadcasting and communication for mobility and portability. Broadcasting service of S-DMB can be taken by the mobile phone or vehicle terminals anytime and anywhere. S-DMB system is currently providing 11 video channels and 26 audio channels. As the demand of multimedia service is recently increasing, S-DMB system needs high quality and new contents service. Therefore we need to make efficient S-DMB with more channel ability and high transmission quality. In this paper, we propose new S-DMB system that can be applied to powerful channel coding scheme and hierarchical 8-PSK(8-Phase Shift Keying) modulation with Backwards Compatibility modes that simultaneously can support both current and new system. And we analyze the performance of current S-DMB system and verify a possibility of advanced S-DMB through computer simulation.

  • Recently, according to being advanced internet, mobile communication technique, Telematics environment which users in vehicle can use internet service in LAN(Local Area Network) via mobile device has being realized. In this paper, we propose the remote user authentication protocol to solve these issues. Additionally, we use biometrics(fingerprint) for our user authentication protocol cause it can provide to avoid critical weakness that can be lost, stolen, or forgotten and to make authentication easily. In our user authentication protocol, to protect the biometric we use session key which is generated from master key distributed in our key distribution protocol. In particular, we propose secure protocol between APs considering weakness of security in mobile environment. Based on implementation of our proposed protocol, we conform that our proposed protocols are secure from various attack methods and provide real-time authentication.

  • Current techniques for road-traffic monitoring rely on sensors which have limited capabilities, are costly and disruptive to install. The use of video cameras coupled with computer vision techniques offers an attractive alternative to current sensors. Video based traffic monitoring systems are now being considered key points of advanced traffic management systems. In this paper, we propose the new method which extract the traffic information using video camera. The proposed method uses an adaptive updating scheme for background in order to reduce the false alarm rate due to various noises in images. also, the proposed extraction method of traffic information calculates the traffic volume ratio of vehicles passing through predefined detection area, which is defined by the length of profile occupied by cars over that of overall detection area. Then the ratio is used to define 8 different states of traffic and to interpret the state of vehicle flows. The proposed method is verified by an experiment using CCTV traffic data from urban area.

  • To solve the emerging geospatial problems, more creative and effective spatial information infrastructures are required. To solve the emerging geospatial problems at a national level, this study assumes that the current Korean NSDI considered descriptive needs to be more prescriptive. The future NSDI will require a more useful integration vehicle for matters and places of national importance such as national security and emergency prevention and management. The purpose of this study is to identify "What can be done for the Korean NSDI to be more prescriptive?" This study reviews previous researches and new SDI concepts, analyzes the Korean NSDI in terms of a descriptive NSDI, and proposes a prescriptive NSDI model for Korean geospatial problems. The model includes new aspects of an advanced NSDI and several tasks for the future prescriptive Korean NSDI.

  • This study investigates the property of graphene filled polymer nanocomposites in LEO(Low Earth orbit) environment conditions. In order to improve compatibility with polymer matrices and resistance of carbon material against AO(Atomic oxygen) attack, silanization of graphene oxide with organosilane was carried out. The corresponding moieties were characterized through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Graphene oxide filled nanocomposites were prepared using solution based processing methods. The sets of specimen series were tested in an accelerated LEO simulated space environment facility. Graphene oxide and silane treated graphene oxide reinforced nanocomposites were compared with neat epoxy. The comparison revealed that the silane treated graphene filled polymer composite shows inherent resistance against atomic oxygen attack while the lack of silane treatment resulted in a reduction in performance.
