In order to meet the needs of domestic reactor severe accident analysis program, a MIDAC (Module Invessel Degraded severe accident Analysis Code) is developed and maintained by Xi'an Jiaotong University. As the accuracy of the calculation results of the analysis program is of great significance for the formulation of severe accident mitigation measures, the article select three experiments to evaluate the updated severe accident models of MIDAC. Among them, QUENCH-06 is the international standard No.45, QUENCH-16 is a test for the analysis of air oxidation, and FROMA is an out-of-pile fuel rod melting experiment recently carried out by Xi'an Jiaotong University. The heating and melting model with lumped parameter method and the steam oxidation model with Cathcart-Pawel and Volchek-Zvonarev correlations combination in MIDAC could better meet the needs of severe accident analysis. Although the influence of nitrogen still need to be further improved, the air oxidation model with NUREG still has the ability to provide guiding significance for engineering practice.

Growth behavior and kinetics of grains in a liquid matrix has been studied by computer simulation for various physical and processing conditions. The kinetics of growing and dissolving grains were considered to follow those of single crystals in a matrix. Depending on the shape of crystals, rounded or faceted, different kinetic equations were adopted for growing grains and an identical equation for dissolving grains. Effects of such critical parameters as step free energy, temperature, and liquid volume fraction were evaluated.

In this work, an overview of flow diagnosis in a shock tunnel is made by means of using established techniques that are easy to setup, economical to arrange, and simple to measure. One flow condition was considered having Mach number of 6 at the nozzle-exit, regarded as freestream. Measured aerothermodynamic data such as shock wave speed, wall static and total pressures, surface heat flux, and shock stand-off distance ahead of test model showed good agreement with calculation. This study shows an overall procedure of flow diagnosis in a shock tunnel in a single manuscript. Outcomes are thought to be useful in the field of education and also in a preliminary stage of high-speed vehicle design and tests, that need to be performed within a short time with decent accuracy.

Coupled transverse shaft vibrations have become the target of great concern in high powered ships such as container ships. Due to increasing ship's dimensions and high propulsive power, resonance frequencies of the propeller shaft system tend to decrease and can appear in some cases within the operating speed range of engine. In this connection, the coupled free transverse vibrations of shaft system in two planes are theoretically investigated. This shaft system carries a number of discs and is flexibly supported by a number of bearing stiffness are considered for the calculation. Transfer matrix method is applied to calculate the shaft responses in both planes. A digital computer program is developed to calculate the shaft responses of the coupled transverse vibrations in two planes. An experimental model shaft system is made. It is composed of a disc, shafts, ball bearings thrust bearings and flexible bearing supports. The shaft system is excited by an electrical magnet, and shaft vibration responses in two planes are measured with the strain gage system. From these measurements, the natural frequencies of the shaft system in both planes are found out. The developed program is also used to calculate the shaft vibration responses of experimental model shaft system. From the results of these calculations, the natural frequencies of shaft system in two planes are derived. Theoretical predictions of model shaft natural frequencies show good agreements with its esperimental measurements.

This paper presents the development of the transfer case for a 3.5-ton commercial vehicle. A transfer case is composed of many parts, including helical gear, shaft, bearing, planetary gear, and others. Helical gears are currently used as power transmitting gears due to their relatively smooth and silent operation, large load carrying capacity, and operation at higher speeds. The key parameter in transfer case development is the bending stress at the root of a tooth in the helical gear. The bending stress of the helical gear has been studied through theoretical calculation and finite element method (FEM) analysis. Major factors of the bending stress calculation are determined according to American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) standards, and FEM model analysis of the helical gear is conducted. FEM results are compared with theoretical calculations and the difference of the bending stress is described.

Spray calculation has been studied to understand the behavior of the spray in a combustion chamber But the spray dispersion has not been predicted properly in a high velocity injection spray or a wall impaction spray. In this study the extended grazing collision model is applied to improve the problem. The gas phase is modelled by the Eulerian continuum conservation equations of mass, momentum, energy and fuel vapour fraction. The liquid phase is modelled following the discrete droplet model approach in Lagrangian form. The droplet distributions, penetration, width and gas flows are compared for the cases with or without extended model. The extended collision model makes the results better.
The objective of the present work is to assess the analysis capability of two wall film condensation models, the default and the alternative models, of RELAP5/MOD3.2 on condensation experiments in the presence of noncondensable gas in a vertical tube of PCCS of CP-1300. In the calculation of a base case the default model of RELAP5/MOD3.2 under-predicts the heat transfer coefficients, and Its alternative model over-predicts them throughout the condensing tube, Also, both models over-predict the void fractions. The nodalization study shows that the variation of the node number does not change both modeling results of RELAP5/MOD3.2 Sensitivity study for varying input parameters shows that the inlet steam-air mixture flow rate, the inlet air mass fraction, and the inlet saturated steam temperature give significant changes of their heat transfer coefficients Run statistics show that the grind time of the default model is always higher than that of the alternative model by about 23%.

A pressure drop model for the PWR grids with and without mixing device is proposed at single phase based on the fluid mechanistic approach. Total pressure loss is expressed in additive way for form and frictional losses. The general friction factor correlations and form drag coefficients available in the open literatures are used to the model. As the results, the model shows better predictions than the existing ones for the non-mixing grids, and reasonable agreements with the available experimental data for mixing grids. Therefore it is concluded that the proposed model for pressure drop can provide sufficiently good approximation for grid optimization and design calculation in advanced grid development.

Most of Rapid Prototyping (RP) process adopt a solid Computer Aided Design (CAD) model, slicing into thin layers of uniform, but not necessarily constant, thickness in the building direction. Each cross-sectional layer is successive1y deposited and at the same time, bonded onto the previous layers; the stacked layers form a physical part of the model. The objective of this study is to develop a method for calculating the rotation angle ($$\theta$_x, $\theta$_y$) of hotwire of the cutting system in the three-dimensional space for the Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-S). In order to examine the applicability of the developed method to VLM-S, various three-dimensional shapes. such as a screw, an extruded cross, and free surface bodies such as miniatures of the monkey(a figure of Sonokong), were made using the data obtained form the method.
Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame under earthquake loading is performed in this paper on the basis of a hysteretic moment-curvature relation. Unlike previous analytical moment-curvature relations which take into account the flexural deformation only with the perfect-bond assumption, by introducing an equivalent flexural stiffness, the proposed relation considers the rigid-body-motion due to anchorage slip at the fixed end, which accounts for more than 50% of the total deformation. The advantage of the proposed relation, compared with both the layered section approach and the multi-component model, may be the ease of its application to a complex structure composed of many elements and on the reduction in calculation time and memory space. Describing the structural response more exactly becomes possible through the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel and consideration of the pinching effect caused by axial force. Finally, the applicability of the proposed model to the nonlinear dynamic analysis of RC structures is established through correlation studies between analytical and experimental results.
