MCE Training Algorithm for a Speech Recognizer Detecting Mispronunciation of a Foreign Language (외국어 발음오류 검출 음성인식기를 위한 MCE 학습 알고리즘)

  • Model parameters in HMM based speech recognition systems are normally estimated using Maximum Likelihood Estimation(MLE). The MLE method is based mainly on the principle of statistical data fitting in terms of increasing the HMM likelihood. The optimality of this training criterion is conditioned on the availability of infinite amount of training data and the correct choice of model. However, in practice, neither of these conditions is satisfied. In this paper, we propose a training algorithm, MCE(Minimum Classification Error), to improve the performance of a speech recognizer detecting mispronunciation of a foreign language. During the conventional MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation) training, the model parameters are adjusted to increase the likelihood of the word strings corresponding to the training utterances without taking account of the probability of other possible word strings. In contrast to MLE, the MCE training scheme takes account of possible competing word hypotheses and tries to reduce the probability of incorrect hypotheses. The discriminant training method using MCE shows better recognition results than the MLE method does.

  • This work presents a study on development of a practical and quantitative technique for assessment of the structural health condition by piezoelectric impedance-based technique associated with longitudinal wave propagation method. The bolt fastening condition is adjusted by torque wrench. In order to estimate the damage condition numerically, three damage indices, impedance peak frequency shift ${\Delta}F$ is proposed in this paper. Furthermore, an assessment method is described for estimation of the damage by using these three damage indices.

  • In this study, we have proposed a sampling method and an estimation method for efficiently estimating the mean of a population which has a linear trend. These methods involve drawing a sample by the so-called "centered balanced systematic sampling", which is an extension of systematic sampling, and then estimating the population mean with an adjusted estimator, not with the sample mean itself. We used the concept of interpolation in determining the adjusted estimator.\Ve compared the efficiency of the proposed estimator with those of the estimators from existing methods, under the expected mean square error criterion based on the infinite superpopulation model introduced by Cochran(1946). The proposed method is for use in the case when the sample size n(2 5) is an odd number and k(the reciprocal of the sampling fraction) is an even number. A good result was also obtained in an example using computer simulation. simulation.

A study on non-response bias adjusted estimation in business survey (사업체조사에서의 무응답 편향보정 추정에 관한 연구)

  • Sampling design should provide statistics to meet a given accuracy while saving cost and time. However, a large number of non-responses are occurring due to the deterioration of survey circumstances, which significantly reduces the accuracy of the survey results. Non-responses occur for a variety of reasons. Chung and Shin (2017, 2019) and Min and Shin (2018) found that the accuracy of estimation is improved by removing the bias caused by non-response when the response rate is an exponential or linear function of variable of interests. For that case they assumed that the error of the super population model follows normal distribution. In this study, we proposed a non-response bias adjusted estimator in the case where the error of a super population model follows the gamma distribution or the log-normal distribution in a business survey. We confirmed the superiority of the proposed estimator through simulation studies.

  • Proper handling of nonresponse in sample survey improves the accuracy of the parameter estimation. Various studies have been conducted to properly handle MAR (missing at random) nonresponse or MCAR (missing completely at random) nonresponse. When nonresponse occurs, the PSA (propensity score adjusted) estimator is commonly used as a mean estimator. The PSA estimator is known to be unbiased when known sample weights and properly estimated response probabilities are used. However, for MNAR (missing not at random) nonresponse, which is affected by the value of the study variable, since it is very difficult to obtain accurate response probabilities, bias may occur in the PSA estimator. Chung and Shin (2017, 2022) proposed a post-stratification method to improve the accuracy of mean estimation when MNAR nonresponse occurs under a non-informative sample design. In this study, we propose a double post-stratification method to improve the accuracy of the naive PSA estimator for MNAR nonresponse under an informative sample design. In addition, we perform simulation studies to confirm the superiority of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, a deadbeat controller design technique is developed for the recently introduced PFC(Power Factor Correction) circuit named as a QBSRR(Quantum Boost Series Resonant Rectifier) to achieve the fast dynamic responses of the output voltage in the presense of any load variations. And, in order to monitor the load information without employing the current sensor, the load estimation method is also derived. By using the information of the load estimation method, the proposed controller gain is automatically adjusted to have the system always keep the very fast dynamic responses. To verify these superior performances, the simulation and the experiment are carried out.

  • In this paper, a force estimation method is proposed for force control without force sensor. For this , a disturbance observer is applied to each joint of an {{{{ { n}_{ } }}}} degrees of freedom manipulator to obtain a simple equivalent robot dynamics(SERD) being represented as an n independent double integrator system. To estimate the output of disturbance observer due to internal torque, the disturbance observer output estimator(DOOE) is designed, where uncertain parameters of the robot manipulator are adjusted by the gradient method to minimize the performance index which is defined as the quadratic form of the error signal between the output of disturbance observer and that of DOOE. when the external force is exerted, the external force is estimated by the difference between the output of disturbance observer and DOOE, since output of disturbance observer includes the external torque signal as well as the internal torque estimated by the output of DOOE. And then, a force controller is designed for force feedback control employing the estimated force signal. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed force estimation method, several numerical examples and experimental results are illustrated for the 2-axis direct drive robot manipulator.

  • This paper proposes a novel network jitter estimation algorithm for robust VoIP communication system. The proposed method computes the current network environment mode using the differences of arrival time and generation time from sequential received packets. According to the current network environment mode, the jitter variance weights is adjusted to minimize the error for estimating the network jitter. The jitter average and variance are calculated by the autoregressive estimated algorithm, and then the network jitter is estimated by applying the jitter variance weights.

  • In this paper, we proposed an adaptive fuzzy sliding control for unknown nonlinear systems using estimation of bounds for approximation errors. Unknown nonlinearity of a system is approximated by the fuzzy logic system with a set of IF-THEN rules whose consequence parameters are adjusted on-line according to adaptive algorithms for the purpose of controlling the output of the nonlinear system to track a desired output. Also, using assumption that the approximation errors satisfy certain bounding conditions, we proposed the estimation algorithms of approximation errors by Lyapunov synthesis methods. The overall control system guarantees that the tracking error asymptotically converges to zero and that all signals involved in controller are uniformly bounded. The good performance of the proposed adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller is verified through computer simulations on an inverted pendulum system.

  • These experiments were carried out to develop new techniques for In Vitro separatin of X-and Y-bearing spermatozoa. The bull semen was applied to the various Gel-Columns filled with swellen Sephadex G-50 Fine and then elutriated wtih Locke solution (elutriation rate; 1ml/3-4min., 1ml/1-2min.). Elutriated solution was fractionated into 1ml by automatic Fraction Collector and spermatozoa included in each fraction were subjected to the estimation of viability and recovery rate, and to B-body test. The results obtained in these experiments were summarized as follows: 1. When the column size and the elutriation rate were adjusted to 15$\times$1.6cm and 1ml/3-4min., respectively, the highest sperm concentration was obtained from the 8th to the 12th fraction. 2. As a trend, the viability of spermatozoa was improved by chromatography, and the degree of improvement ranged 5 to 10 percentage. 3. The average recovery rate of spermatozoa applied to column was 73.2 percentage and ranged 52.6 to 81.3 percentage. 4. The lowest rate of B-body bearing spermatozoa following chromatography was obtained when the column size and the elutriation rate were adjusted to 15$\times$0.8cm and 1ml/1-2min., respectively.
