The interference between closely placed co-coverage satellites was analyzed. In general, a satellite network may use different orthogonal polarizations and frequencies to increase the throughput of a satellite. However, when orthogonal linear polarization (horizontal polarization and vertical polarization) or orthogonal circular polarization (left-handed circular polarization and right-handed circular polarization) is used, the signal from one polarization sense to another may be coupled, resulting in cross-polarization interference. This signal-coupling arises due to the finite value of the cross-polarization discrimination of the earth station. In this study, field equations were used to analyze the interference between adjacent satellites using co-frequency. The level of interference was compared to that when two adjacent satellites used the same polarization. The simulation results show that the interference mainly depends on the off-axis co-polar pattern and the cross-polar pattern of the earth station antenna.
DS/CDM-QPSK (ITU-R Recommendation BO.1130-4 Annex 6, 'Digital System E'), which has been adoptedas a standard of Korean Satellite DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system, is a satellite-based multimedia broadcasting service which transmits the multi-channel and high quality contents to the terrestrial users through a satellite or gap-fillers. The broadcast from a satellite is directly received in the plain terrain which are within line-of-sight, but in cities where the broadcast cannot be received directly due to the shadow of buildings, an attempt is being made to install 'Gap-Fillers' to improve the reception in those areas. The gap-fillers, however, may induce interference to service of adjacent band, when their output power is substantially higher compared to the received signal power of signal from a satellite of the adjacent service. In this paper, a link budget analysis is performed, and the optimal EIRP of a gap-filler to maximize the gap-filler coverage, while preventing adjacent band interference is derived.

A candidate hybrid satellite and terrestrial network architecture, MSS/ATC(Mobile Satellite Service/Ancillary Terrestrial Component), is proposed for utilizing efficiently the exist MSS bands. Studies on the adjacent channel interference from the existing terrestrial mobile services and MSS/ATC itself are important to allocate a new ATC service frequency in MSS band. In this paper, we have analyzed the minimum permission power of terrestrial base station and the capacity loss with parameters of ACIR, number of MS(mobile Station) and MES(Mobile Earth Station) in uplink, and also, the capacity performance based on 1 beam and 1 cell assumption for MSS/ATC in downlink. The ACIR requirements are estimated in two MSS/ATC frequency allocation scenarios for 5 MHz and 10 MHz guard band to share spectrum with adjacent systems, and according to these ACIR requirements the service coverage and the receiver filter for ATC system should be designed in near future.

The fifth generation (5G) is a state-of-the-art mobile communication access technology that uses sub 6 GHz bands and mmWave. Presently, the 5G network is partially deployed along with 4G in areas with dense traffic. In the future, the demand for the 5G bandwidth may increase. Thus, it is necessary to study the coexistence between the 5G and radio systems using adjacent or same channels to eliminate the interference between radio systems and efficiently utilize the frequency. This paper analyzed the impact of 5G new radio downlink on the fixed-satellite service earth station operating at the co-channel and adjacent channel in the upper 3.7 GHz band using the Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool, which is based on the Monte Carlo method. The results of this paper can be utilized for planning the frequency allocation of 5G networks; they can also be used as a guideline for deploying 5G base stations around a fixed-satellite service earth station.
This paper describes the effective and rigorous analytic method of multipath effect which results from insufficient isolation characteristics between adjacent channels in communication payload system. It is very important to analyze the multipath effect for verifying the performance of transponder subsystem that especially is consist of multi channels. Finally the multipath effect are analyzed by calculating the GR and GDR for two adjacent channels of Ku-band transponder subsystem on the Communication & Broadcasting Satellite(CBS).

As more satellites are designed to downlink their observed image data through the X-band frequency band, it is inevitable that the occupied bandwidth of a target satellite will overlap with that of other X-band downlink satellites. For sun-synchronized low earth orbit satellites, in particular, it can be expected that two or more satellites be placed within the looking angle of a ground station antenna at the same time. Due to the overlapping in the frequency band, signals transmitted from the adjacent satellites act as interferers, leading to degraded link performance between target satellite and ground station. In this paper, link analysis was initiated by modeling the radiation pattern of ground station antenna through a validated Jet Propulsion Laboratory peak envelope model. From the relative antenna gain depending on the offset angle from center axis of maximum antenna directivity, the ratio of received interference signal level to the target signal level was calculated. As a result, it was found that the degradation increased when the offset angle was within the first point of radiation pattern. For a 7.3 m antenna, serious link degradation began at an offset angle of 0.4 degrees. From this analysis, the link performance of the coming satellite passes can be recognized, which is helpful to establish an operating procedure that will prevent the ground station from receiving corrupted image data in the event of a degraded link.
A technique on atmospheric correction algorithm to the multi-band reflectance of Landsat TM imagery has been developed using an atmospheric radiation transfer model for eliminating the atmospheric and surface diffusion effects. Despite the fact that the technique of satellite image processing has been continually developed, there is still a difference between the radiance value registered by satellite borne detector and the true value registered at the ground surface. Such difference is caused by atmospheric attenuations of radiance energy transfer process which is mostly associated with the presence of aerosol particles in atmospheric suspension and surface irradiance characteristics. The atmospheric reflectance depend on atmospheric optical depth and aerosol concentration, and closely related to geographical and environmental surface characteristics. Therefore, when the effects of surface diffuse and aerosol reflectance are eliminated from the satellite image, it is actually corrected from atmospheric optical conditions. The objective of this study is to develop an algorithm for making atmospheric correction in satellite image. The study is processed with the correction function which is developed for eliminating the effects of atmospheric path scattering and surface adjacent pixel spectral reflectance within an atmospheric radiation model. The diffused radiance of adjacent pixel in the image obtained from accounting the average reflectance in the $7{\times}7$ neighbourhood pixels and using the land cover classification. The atmospheric correction functions are provided by a radiation transfer model of LOWTRAN 7 based on the actual atmospheric soundings over the Korean atmospheric complexity. The model produce the upward radiances of satellite spectral image for a given surface reflectance and aerosol optical thickness.

Satellite communication system uses a high non-linear HPA(high power amplifiers) in the earth station and satellite transponder. Therefore, it is important to consider the nonlinear effect of HPA on the communication system. In this paper, we find the variation of power spectrum density by nonlinearity HPA and the change of harmonic component according to IBO (input back-off). When the BPSK is used for satellite communication system, we analyze BER performance including the external co-channel interference (CCI) and the adjacent channel interference (ACI) resulting from the HPA nonlinearity. BER degrades as ACI magnitude grows up when the uplink SNR, uplink SIR (signal to co-channel interference power ratio) and downlink SIR are constant at some level. In case there is only non-linear HPA in the satellite, it is shown that BER considerably depends on the ACI magnitude ACI. When there are two non-linear HPAs in the both earth station and satellite, much BER degradation results from the CCI and ACI.
This paper describes a data fusion method for high spatial resolution satellite imagery. The pixels located around an object edge have spectral mixing because of the geometric primitive of pixel. The larger a size of pixel is, the wider an area of spectral mixing is. The intensity of pixels adjacent edges were modified by the spectral characteristics of the pixels located inside of objects. The methods developed in this study were tested using IKONOS Multispectral and Pan data of a part of Jeju-shi in Korea. The test application shows that the spectral information of the pixels adjacent edges were improved well.
Usually to achieve precise geolocation of satellite images, we need to get GCPs (Ground control points) from individual scenes. This requirement greatly increases the cost and processing time for satellite mapping. In this article, we focus on finding appropriate sensor models for entire image strips composing of several adjacent scenes. We tested the feasibility of modelling whole satellite image strips by establishing sensor models of one scene with GCPs and by applying the models to neighboring scenes without GCPs. For this, we developed two types of sensor models: collinearity-based type and orbit-based type and tested them using different sets of unknowns. Results indicated that although the performance of two types was very similar, for modelling individual scenes, it was not for modelling the whole strips. Moreover, the performance of sensor models was remarkably sensitive to different sets of unknowns. It was found that the orbit-based model using attitude biases as unknowns can be used to model SPOT image strips of 420 Km in length.
