  • In this study, adiabatic temperature rise of concrete depending on binder compositions and CGS contents is studied to provide informations for CGS low-heating aggregate and mixture designs for upper and lower placement lifts. Test nresults indicate that it is desirable to apply the combination of binders between top and bottom lift. For top lift, SESC or ESC is recommended, and for bottom lift, FAC+CGS 50 % is good for material composition.

  • The crack of concrete induced by a temperature rise in early age concrete due to the heat of ration of cement is a serious problem for massive or high strength concrete structures. However, re is still no reasonable equations for the prediction of the temperature rising. On this study, the prediction equations of the heat of hydration of different types of binder are pained from the adiabatic temperature rise test, and compared with the results from different nations to obtain the best approximated equation. The strengths of concrete of which specimens were placed in the same chamber for the adiabatic to were compared with those under standard curing.

  • The present study is a basic experiment on the estimation of the compression strength of high strength concrete, aiming at estimating the compression strength of mass test pieces of high strength concrete by giving the temperature hysteresis of the mass test pieces to managerial test pieces. Thus, this study made concrete test pieces in an optimal mix ratio for each strength level, and also created adiabatic curing tank and managerial test pieces. Then it carried out comparative analysis in relation to core strength and suggested equipment and a technique that can control the strength of high strength concrete mass more conveniently and accurately.

  • In order to design thermally trigger controlled persistent current switch (PCS) for superconducting magnet system, it is very important to know information of applied adiabatic method and condition to get designed resistance and characteristics In this paper, we used cotton-gummed tape as thermal insulator and derived experimentally averaged thermal conductivity of it around 10K on the assumption that adiabatic structure of PCS is shape of pipe. The result value is about 0.29 W/mK and it is verified reasonable value by computer simulation and experiment of test PCS. Test PCS was designed and manufactured different dimensions. The experimental results of test PCS were in good agreement with the calculated results.

  • Effects of ferrite grain size on static and dynamic deformation behaviors of SCM415 stels were investigated in this study. Dynamic torsional test was conducted using torsional Kolsky bar with the strain rate of $1.6{\times}10^3/s$. Specimens with three different grain size of ferrite, $4.6{\mu}m$, $11{\mu}m$, $35.5{\mu}m$ were used. Dimple fracture mode of the dynamic test specimens showed adiabatic shear bands on the beneath of fracture surface. Increased uniform elongation and decreased non-uniform elongation appeared as grain size of ferrite decreased in dynamic torsional test. However, shear strength was independent on grain size of ferrite.

  • The evolution of the electro-mechanical impedance (EMI) of a piezoelectricity (PZT) sensor was investigated to determine the setting times of cement paste in this study. The PZT sensor coated with non-conductive acrylic resin was embedded in fresh cement paste and the EMI signatures were continuously monitored. Vicat needle test and semi-adiabatic calorimetry test were also conducted to validate the EMI sensing technique. Significant changes in the EMI resonance peak magnitude and frequency during the setting period were observed and the setting times determined by EMI sensing technique were relevant to those measured by Vicat needle test and semi-adiabatic calorimetry test.

  • In this study we investigated the properties of the fundamental and adiabatic temperature rise of the concrete using high volume fly-ash. For this, the fly ash was used to replace cement at replacement ratio of 40% and 50% by mass, and then the slump, air content, bleeding, compressive strength and adiabatic temperature rise test of concrete were performed.

  • The performance of adiabatic capillary tubes are measured to provide the database for a generalized correlation. Test conditions and capillary tube geometries are selected to cover a wide range typically observed in air-conditioning and heat pump applications. Based on extensive experimental data for R22, R290, and R407C measured in this study, a generalized correlation for refrigerant flow rate in adiabatic capillary tubes is developed by implementing dimensionless parameters for tube inlet conditions, capillary tube geometry, and refrigerant properties. The correlation yields good agreement with the present data for R22, R290, and R407C with average and standard deviations of 0.9% and 5.0%, respectively. In addition, approximately 97% of the data for Rl2, R134a, R152a, R410A, and R600a obtained in the open literature are correlated within a relative deviation of $\pm$ 15%.

  • This study reviews dynamic deformation behavior of ultra-fine-grained Al alloys, ultra-fine-grained conventional low carbon steel and dual phase steel and Zr-based amorphous alloys. Dynamic tests were conducted using a Kolsky bar then the test data was analyzed in relation to resultant microstructures, mechanical properties and propensity of adiabatic shear band. In addition, deformed microstructures and fracture surfaces were used to investigate the behavior of both the dynamic deformation and fracture, and adiabatic shear banding. As a result, increasing microstructural homogeneity, strain hardenability and forming multiple shear bands could be a better way to increase the fracture resistance under dynamic loading as the formation of adiabatic shear bands was reduced or prevented.

  • The research team conducted a series of studies to use CGS as fine aggregate for concrete. In this paper, through the adiabatic temperature rising test, CGS' hydration heating performance and its usability as a mass concrete hydration heating agent were reviewed. According to the analysis, the maximum temperature of the mix of OPC 100 was 53.7℃, and the temperature of CGS 50% was 45.2℃, which was 8.5℃ lower than the OPC 100.
