  • This study deals with the effect on adhesive strength properties of waterproofing and reinforcing layer and mortar or concrete substrate applicated by epoxy resin anticorrosive and bonding materials. Properties of adhesive strength change condition of concrete substrate, temperature, moisture, curing and cleaning and so on. The purpose of this study is that it makes the estimation value of bond strength of concrete wall and epoxy resin layer when coated epoxy resin as anticorrosive materials for durability performance estimation depend on concrete watertightness, and when penetrated epoxy resin for the reinforcement of concrete used the carbon fiber sheet.

  • In this paper, we propose a new design of the permanent magnet reluctance wheel which will make it possible to attach the robot to a vertical plane and move it. In the newly suggested design, a permanent magnet is utilized to enhance the adhesive force during attachment, and an electromagnet is produced to weaken the magnetic field of the permanent magnet and reduce the adhesive force for easier detachment of wheels from steel plates. To characterize the performance of this new wheel design, a 3-D finite element analysis is executed using a commercial FE program. The results show that the adhesive force is reduced effectively by the electromagnet which flows in the reverse direction of the magnetic loop of the permanent magnet when the current is supplied to the coil.

  • The development and maintenance of a sound bond are an essential requirements of concrete repair and replacement. The bond property of a bonded overlay to its substrate concrete during the lifetime is one of the most important performance requirements which should be quantified This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of adhesive strength for overlay concrete. Three different removal methods of deteriorated concrete such as chip-patch, mill-patch and water-jet were varied in this study. According to the adhesive strength of pull- off test, case III using water-jet was measured $2\~3$ times higher than that of chip-patch or mill-patch.

  • Failure predictions of composite single-lap bonded joints were performed considering both of composite adherend failure and bondline failure. An elastic-perfectly plastic model of adhesive and a delamination failure criterion are used. The failure prediction results such as failure mode and strength have very good agreements with the test results of joint specimens with various bonding methods and parameters. The influence of variations in the effective strength (that is, adhesion performance) and plastic behavior of adhesive on the failure characteristics of composite bonded joints are investigated numerically. The numerical results show that optimal joint strength is archived when adhesive and delamination failure occur in the same time.

  • We propose a new design of the hybrid-magnet wheel to make it possible for a mobile robot to be attached to the vertical plane and be in motion. In the new suggested design, a permanent magnet is utilized to enhance the adhesive force, while an electromagnet is adopted to reduce the magnetic field and the adhesive force for detaching easily. To analysis the performance of the robot, 3 dimensional finite element analysis is executed using commercial electromagnetic analysis program, Maxwell. The results show that the adhesive force is reduced effectively by the electromagnet in the new designed robot system.

  • A residue from the newsprint waste was investigated as a filler in adhesive for bonding southern pine plywood. The residue was prepared by drying the wet residue to 8% moisture content and grinding the dry material using a laboratory Wiley mitt with a 75-${\mu}m$(200-mesh) screen. The residue was compared to a commercial filler commonly used in structural plywood adhesives. A total of 48 three-ply panels. 12.7mm nominal thickness and 0.3 by 0.3 m in size, were fabricated at two press times(4 and 5 min) and three assembly times(20, 40 and 60 min). Evaluations of the residue were carried out by performance tension shear tests after two 4-hour boil accelerated aging tests on plywood. The test results included tension shear strength and estimated wood failure values. All plywood made with the residue filler were comparable to the control-bonded plywood. These results indicate that residue from the newsprint waste streams would be suitable as filler for plywood adhesives.

  • In this paper an improved re-adhesion control scheme is proposed for IC4M(1-Controller 4-Motors) traction system. It is well known that the coefficient of adhesion between wheel and rail has a maximum value at a certain slip velocity. In the proposed scheme, maximum adhesive force is estimated by an observer and the driving torque of motor is controlled to set maximum adhesive force. The simulation results are presented.

  • This paper is to present the performance data for improved direct setting method using tile bond for application of porcelain tile under 1 percent absorptance. For this purpose, improved direct setting method type 1 & 2(tile bond curing time 0, 24H) were compared with the conventional setting methods(including direct setting method and improved pressure setting method) in the sight of the adhesive stability of porcelain tile. It tested for tiles after 14, 28days under standard condition and severe conditions. The severe conditions were water immersion, heat ageing(70℃) and freeze-thaw cycle. On the basis of test results, the adhesive strength of direct setting method was lowest for the conventional setting methods. But improved direct setting method using tile bonds(A, B) came close to the result of improved pressure setting method using tile bonds.

  • The enhancement of service life of damaged or cracked structures is currently major issue to the researchers and engineers. In order to improve the life of cracked aging aircraft structures, the repair technique which uses adhesively bonded boron/epoxy composite patches is being widely considered as a cost-effective and reliable method. This paper is to study the performance of the bonded composite patch repair of a plate containing an inclined central through-crack. A 3-dimensional finite element method having three layers to the cracked plate, composite patch and adhesive layer, is used to compute the stress intensity factor. In this paper, the reduction of stress intensity factors near the crack-tip are determined to evaluate the effects of various non-dimensional design parameter including composite patch thickness, and material properties of the composite patch and thickness of the adhesive layer, materials of patch etc., and the crack length, Finally, The problem of how to optimize the patch geometric configurations has been discussed.
