Synthesis and Characterization of Composite Paper Using Polyamide Fiber and Surface Modified Microfibrillated Cellulose (표면 개질된 마이크로피브릴화 셀룰로오스를 이용한 폴리아마이드 섬유와의 복합페이퍼 제조 및 특성평가)

  • Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) was chemically modified with two different silane coupling agents (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and 3-mercaptopropyltriethoxysilane) and lauroyl chloride. The surface modification of MFC was confirmed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and contact angle measurements. Composite paper was successfully prepared with surface modified MFC and polyamide (PA) fiber. The surface modification of MFC not only prevented aggregation of MFC but also improved adhesive property between PA fiber and surface modified MFC. It was impossible to prepare papers of only PA fiber because there is no binder to connect PA fibers. That is, surface modified MFC as a binder in PA fiber played a crucial role in making composite paper. Composite paper with silane modified MFC showed higher tensile strength and modulus than composite paper with lauroyl moiety modified MFC. The structure, morphology, and mechanical properties of composite paper were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and universal testing machine (UTM).

  • 탄소나노튜브는 큰 길이 대 직경 비와 뛰어난 전기적 특성으로 인해 차세대 전계 방출 소자로 주목 받고 있다. 실질적인 전계방출 디스플레이로의 응용을 위한 대면적 제작과 유리 기판 사용을 위해 이용되었던 페이스트(paste)법은 높은 전기장 하에서 장시간 전계방출시 탄소나노튜브 전계방출원과 페이스트(paste)간의 낮은 접착력 때문에 발생하는 탄소나노튜브의 탈루현상(omission)과 유기물질(organic paste)에서 발생하는 탈기체(out-gassing) 문제점이 있었다. 최근 이런 문제점을 개선하기 위해 유기물질(organic paste)를 대체하여 금속바인더(metal binder) 물질을 사용한 결과들이 보고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 유리기판 위에 제작된 탄소나노튜브 전계방출원의 수명 향상을 위하여 금속바인더와 후속 열처리법의 변화에 따른 전계방출 안정성을 분석하였다. 금속바인더는 접합층/ 접착층(soldering layer/ adhesive layer)으로 구성되어 있으며, 일반적인 소다석회유리(soda-lime glass)에 스퍼터(DC magnetron sputtering system)를 이용하여 증착하였다. 접착층은 유리기판과 접합층의 접착력 향상을 위해 사용되며, 접합층은 기판과 탄소나노튜브 전계방출원을 접합하는 역할과 전계방출 측정시 전극이 되기 때문에 우수한 전기 전도성과 내산화성을 필요로 한다. 본 실험에서는 일반적으로 유리기판과 접착력이 좋다고 알려진 Cr, Ti, Ni, Mo을 접착층으로 사용하였으며, 접합성과 전기전도성, 내산화성이 뛰어난 귀금속 계열의 금속을 접합층으로 사용하였다. 탄소나노튜브를 1,2-디클로로에탄(1,2-dichloroethane, DCE)에 분산시킨 용액을 스프레이방법을 이용하여 증착시켰으며, 후속 열처리 방법을 통하여 접합층과 결합시켰다. 금속바인더와 후속 열처리법의 변화에 따른 접착력과 표면형상(morphology)의 변화를 주사전자현미경(scanning electron microscopy)를 이용하여 분석하였으며, 다이오드 타입에 디씨 바이어스(DC bias)를 사용하여 전계방출특성을 측정하였다[1,2].

Effect of Silica Particle Size and Aging Time on the Improvement of Mechanical Properties of Geopolymer-Fiber Composites (실리카의 입자 크기와 Aging 시간이 지오폴리머 섬유 복합체의 기계적 물성 향상에 미치는 효과)

  • Geopolymer, also known as alkali aluminum silicate, is used as a substitute for Portland cement, and it is also used as a binder because of its good adhesive properties and heat resistance. Since Davidovits developed Geopolymer matrix composites (GMCs) based on the binder properties of geopolymer, they have been utilized as flame exhaust ducts and aircraft fire protection materials. Geopolymer structures are formed through hydrolysis and dehydration reactions, and their physical properties can be influenced by reaction conditions such as concentration, reaction time, and temperature. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of silica size and aging time on the mechanical properties of composites. Commercial water glass and kaolin were used to synthesize geopolymers, and two types of silica powder were added to increase the silicon content. Using carbon fiber mats, a fiber-reinforced composite material was fabricated using the hand lay-up method. Spectroscopy was used to confirm polymerization, aging effects, and heat treatment, and composite materials were used to measure flexural strength. As a result, it was confirmed that the longer time aging and use of nano-sized silica particles were helpful in improving the mechanical properties of the geopolymer matrix composite.

Influence of Animal Glues Application for Painting Restoration on Paper Characteristics (회화 복원용 교의 적용이 종이 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Artists have been used animal glues for a long time as binding and sizing materials of paintings in many countries including Korea. Since animal glues as a binding material lose their own adhesive strength by aging, pigment particles or pigment layers are easily detached from painting surface. Restaurators prefer to use animal glues for consolidation of pigment particles or pigment layers because artists use animal glues as a binder for their painting works. It is widely known that animal glues have different characteristics such as viscosity, stability on water etc. But there are still a few requirements to consider their stabilities for the restoration of paintings. Therefore, this study was aimed to evaluate of stability and efficiency of animal glue applications. The efficiency of animal glue application was decreased with increasing the concentration of animal glue solution. This result means the simple tendency, but does not representative data for other animal glues made from same raw materials. In most cases, the surface and mechanical characteristics of animal glues are dependent on some factors, like viscosity and concentration of animal glue solution.

Effect of Vinyl Acetate-Ethylene(VAE) Emulsion on Coated Paper Properties (비닐아세테이트 에틸렌 공중합체 바인더가 도공지의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was focused on applying a new paper coating binder, vinyl acetate-ethylene(VAE) emulsion, with SB-latex and acrylic emulsion for paper coating application. VAE emulsion has a low monomer cost and is non-toxic chemical than conventional adhesive for paper coating such as styrene-butadiene latex( SB-latex) and acrylic emulsion. We conducted double coating in order to test VAE emulsion, which was applied on top surface only. The results showed that optical properties of the coated paper with VAE were similar with the SB-latex binders. In case of bonding strength, dry-pick of the coated paper with VAE showed almost same with other binders while wet-pick of the coated paper with VAE had a little bit lower strength than that with SB-latex.

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this study was to evaluate the results of the dynamic immersion test (DIT) through digital image analysis (DIA). METHODS : The asphalt binder retained post DIT was inspected visually by more than three investigators. However, because visual observations can be subjective, depending on the inspector's skills and knowledge, DIA was also performed. The threshold value for the DIA was determined by a mesh analysis, in which the digital image to be analyzed is divided into very small meshes. In addition, the bitumen bond strength (BBS) test was also performed to the compare the visual results with the mechanical values. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS : Depending on the materials used, various methods can be used to predict the behavior of retained asphalt. However, the increasing ratio in the trend of retained asphalt shows different behaviors among the evaluation methods. In this study, the results of the visual observations were significantly different from those of the DIA, the mesh analysis, and the BBS tests. Thus, DIA is an appropriate method for evaluating the results of the DIT. However, in order to use this technique in the field, it is necessary to determine a more reasonable threshold value by performing DIA on various materials.

  • The recent spotlight on electronic touch-screen display, a rapid breakthrough in the information society is evolving. Touch panel input device such as a keyboard or mouse without the use of, the on-screen character or a specific location or object on the person's hand touches a particular feature to identify the location of a panel is to be handled. The touch screen on the touch panel is used in the Ag paste is used mostly for low-curable paste. The thermal-curing paste according to the drying process of thermal energy consumption and improve the working environment of organic solvents have problems. In this study, Ag paste used in the non-thermal curing friendly and cost-effective UV curable paste was prepared. Current commercially available thermal-curable binder, was used instead of the flow characteristics of UV-curable oligomers and monomers with functional groups to give a single conductive Ag paste with the addition of a pattern could be formed. Ag paste as a result, thermal-curing adhesive, hardness, resistance and excellent reproduction of fine patterns and was available with screen printing environmentally friendly could see its potential as a patterning technology.

  • A thermal transfer method was developed novel method to form the phosphor screen for monochrom VPT. This method have advantages of simple process, clean environment, saving raw material and running-cost. But now applying phosphor screen for thermal transfer method has been formed three layers (phosphor layer, ITO layer and thermal adhesive layer) on the PET film as substrate. This is complex process, consumption of raw-material and require of high cost. Also ITO paste at present has been imported from Japan. To improve these problems, we have developed ITO paste as conductive paste by using ITO sol and binder resin (AA3003). Ito paste as developed in this study has both conductive and excellent thermal transfer abilities. Thus we could manufacture phosphor screen formed two layers (phosphor layer and ITO layer).

  • This study is mainly about materials that are used in Sungnyemun gate's dancheong to find causes of dancheong's damage such as desquamation and peeling off. 12 kinds of pigments' components which are used in dancheoong are analyzed. Except for Hobun and Seokganju, the pigments are artificial. Samples are made with different conditions of adhesives and the rate of binder. To estimate promotion weathering test, adhesives are applied in a different order. Desquamation and peeling off presented especially when different adhesives are used on dancheong and also, generally the layer thickened.

  • This work describes the effect of binders, such as carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), CMC+ Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and PTFE, on the electrochemical and mechanical properties of activated carbon-electrode for electric double layer capacitor. The cell capacitors using the electrode bound with binary binder composed of CMC and PTFE, especially in composition CMC PTFE = 60 : 40 wt.%, has better rate capability and the lower internal resistance than those of the cell capacitor with CMC. On the other hand, the sheet type electrode kneaded with PTFE was bonded with conductive adhesive on Al foil. This cell capacitor using the electrode with PTFE exhibited the best mechanical properties and rate capability compared to the CMC and CMC+PTFE one. These behaviors could be explained by the well-developed network structure of PTFE fibrils doting the kneading process.
