Poly(vinyl alcohol)을 이용한 Poly(vinyl acetate-co-ethylene) Emulsion 중합에 대한 연구 (Study on the Emulsion Polymerization of poly(vinyl acetate-co-ethylene) Using Poly(vinyl alcohol) as Emulsifier)

  • 본 논문에서는 poly(vinyl acetate-co-ethylene)을 산화, 환원 방법으로 중합할 때 poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH)이 최종 에멀젼의 물성에 미치는 영향과 pH의 변화가 최종 에멀젼의 물성에 미치는 영향에 대하여 알아보았다. 실험 결과 PVOH의 분자량이 에멀젼 성질에 크게 영향을 미쳤다. 분자량이 낮은 PVOH 이용 시는 점도가 낮은 제품을 얻었고, 분자량이 큰 PVOH를 이용 시는 높은 점도의 제품을 얻었다. 그러나 pH를 변화 시키면서 중합한 제품의 최종 성질은 PVOH에 대하여 다른 결과를 얻었다. 일반적으로 중합도가 높고 부분 검화물의 PVOH를 이용한 poly(vinyl acetate) 에멀젼 최종점도는 상대적으로 매우 높은 점도를 유지하는 데 비하여, VAE 에멀젼에서는 높은 pH에서 합성 시에는 낮은 에멀젼의 점도를 얻었다. 이것은 에멀젼 합성 중에 PVOH의 분자량의 저하에 의한 영향으로 판단된다. pH가 증가 할수록 그라프트율이 감소하고, 분자량이 감소하면서 점도가 낮아진다는 결과를 얻었다.

폴리머 시멘트 모르타르를 이용한 원심력 철근콘크리트관의 라이닝 (Lining of Reinforced Spun Concrete Pipes using Polymer-Modified Mortars)

  • 본 연구는 기존 원심력 철근콘크리트관의 성능을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법으로 관체 표면을 일정한 두께로 방식 라이닝 모르타르로 처리함으로써 보다 더 내구적인 하수관을 개발하기 위하여 실시하였다. 이를 위해 원심력 철근콘크리트관 제작 시, 동시성형이 가능하고 촉진 증기양생 조건에서도 균열이 발생되지 않는 접착강도가 큰 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르를 제조하였다. 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르를 원심력 철근콘크리트관용 라이닝 재료로 사용하기 위한 기초적 실험결과, 보통 시멘트 모르타르에 비해 역학적 성질 및 내구성이 우수하였으며, 현장적용결과, 동시성형 및 양생조건에 따라 적용될 수 있는 방법은 다양하나, 폴리머의 종류에 관계없이 폴리머 시멘트비를 20% 이하로 하며, 양생온도는 8$0^{\circ}C$이하의 양생조건을 제안할 수 있었다. 또한 현장조건이 가능하면, 2일간 기중양생(2$0^{\circ}C$)을 실시하여 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르 속의 폴리머 필름이 형성된 후, 8$0^{\circ}C$에서 양생시키는 방법이 이상적인 것으로 나타났다.

The Clinical Application of Sound-Protection

  • Bekesy measured the sound transformation system of the middle ear 49 years ago. According to his reports, a ratio between the size of ear drum and the size of oval window is 17 : 1, and the lever function of the ossicles is physiologically 1.3 : 1. Therefore, the hearing might be aggravated to 27.5㏈ in the case of the vanishment of 3 ossicles. In 1952, Wullstein reported 5 types of tympanop-lasty and the fourth type among them was especially named for the sound-protection. The oval window is only exposed by the sound pressure and the round window is not exposed. According to the application by this idea, the post-operative hearing might be improved until 27.5㏈. Mean while, in 1942, Onchi verified through his experiment that the results of Bekesy's measurement was not completely conformed to Onchi result. Bekesy measured the sound pressure on the stapes plate of the oval window, on the other hand, Onchi measured the sound pressure on the surface of the perilymph of the oval window after removing the stapes plate(Fig. 1).(Figure omitted) The difference of their experiment is recognized that the impedance of the stapes plate exists or not (Fig. 1). Both Audiogrums are compared as Fig. 2. The result of IV type of tympanoplasty is success ful in 54% as the Table 1. (Table Omitted) The reason of unsatisfactory is caused by the thick and unmovable window-membrane and by the closing of air passage to the round window. The closing of the air passage to the round window is occurred by the adhesion between the grafting membrane and the surface of promontorium. In order to preserve this adhesion, I produce to transplantate the mucous membrane of the lip to the bone surface of tympanic cavity after removing the granulation tissue of the tympanic cavity and to form a membranous canal for the sake of air passage (Fig. 3). (Figure Omitted) The post-operative hearing by this method is shown as Fig. 4, 5. In other words, the post-operative sound pressure entered into the cochlea directly, by way of the oval window only, not by way of the round window, as a theorie of the sound protection. Characterization of Recycled Coarse Aggregate (RCA) via a Surface Coating Method

  • Recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) made from waste concrete is not a suitable structural material as it has high absorption of cement mortar, which adheres on the aggregate surface and on the tiny cracks thereon. Therefore, when using RCA made from waste concrete, much water must be added with the concrete, and slump loss occurs when transporting. Hence, its workability is significantly worse than that of other materials. In this study, surface of RCA was coated with water-soluble polycarboxylate (PC) dispersant so that its characteristics improved. Each possibility was evaluated: whether its slump loss can be controlled, by measuring its workability based on the elapsed time; and whether it can be used as a structural material, by measuring its strength. Moreover, the carbonation due to cement mortar adhesion was measured through a carbonation test. As a result, RCA coated with PC dispersant was found to be better than crushed coarse aggregate and RCA when the physical properties of the fresh concrete and the mechanical, durability of the hardened concrete were tested.

Fabrication of nanoporous gold thin films on glass substrates for amperometric detection of aniline

  • Nanoporous gold (NPG) is a very promising material in various fields such as sensor, actuator, and catalysis because of its high surface to volume ratio and conducting nature. In this study, we fabricated a NPG based amperometric sensor on a glass substrate by means of co-sputtering of Au and Si. During the sputtering process, we found the optimum conditions for heat treatment to reduce the residual stress and to improve adhesion between NPG films and the glass substrate. Subsequently, Si was selectively etched from Au-Si alloy by KOH solution, which forms nanoporous structures. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and auger electron spectroscopy (AES) were used to estimate the structure of NPG films and their composition. By employing appropriate heat treatments, we could make very stable NPG films. We tested the performance of NPG sensor with aniline molecules, which shows high sensitivity for sensing low concentration of aniline.

Water vapor barrier properties of polymer-like amorphous carbon deposited polyethylene naphthalate film

  • Polymer-like amorphous carbon films were deposited on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrate by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and their water vapor transmission rates (WVTR) were tested. propane was used as precursors. To make a polymer-like amorphous carbon film the deposition rate, surface roughness, light transmittance, and WVTR of the films were characterized as a function of the precursor feed ratio and plasma power. The water vapor transmission rates of bare PEN film and single layer PAC on PEN substrate were 6.95 g/m2/day and 0.3 g/m2/day, respectively. The superior property the water vapor permeability of thin layers of PAC was attributed to uniform coverage and good adhesion between PAC film and PEN substrate.

Specific Targeting of Fluorescein Isothiocyanate with Ep-CAM Antibody(Specific targeting of FITC with Ep-CAM Antibody)

  • The tetradecameric peptide (K47-K60) near the NH$_2$-terminal region of epithelial-cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) was chosen as antigenic site and a polyclonal antibody was generated, which could recognize Ep-CAM from the mouse colon tissue or the colon cancer cell, CT-26, in Western blot analysis. Then, the fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), a fluorescence dye, was conjugated with the affinity purified Ep-CAM antibody using thiocyanate and the amino groups of FITC and antibody, respectively. The molar ratio of FITC to antibody was estimated approximately 1.86 to 1.00 by measuring the optical densities at 492 nm and 280 nm. Ep-CAM antibody-FITC conjugate was then used for immunohistochemistry of the CT-26 cells. Judging from the shapes formed by fluorescence, the Ep-CAM antibody could delivered FITC to the surface of cells in which Ep-CAM was expressed. This result implies that Ep-CAM antibody could be also used for the tissue-specific delivery of the photosensitizer to the target protein via antigen-antibody interaction.

  • Tip-type carbon nanotube(CNT) based electron emitters were fabricated by forming a hafnium(Hf) interlayer between the CNT and the substrate. The CNTs were deposited by using the electrophoretic deposition method and thermally treated. No significant change in the microscopic structure of the CNTs, such as the ratio of length to diameter, was observed after the deposition of Hf interlayer and thermal treatment. As compared with the CNT emitter without the Hf-interlayer and thermal treatment, the CNT emitter with the Hf-interlayer and thermal treatment showed noticeably improved electron-emission properties due to the enhanced adhesion.

  • Film properties of monodispersed model composite latexes with particle size of 190 nm, which consist of n-butyl acrylate as a soft phase monomer and methyl methacrylate as a hard phase monomer with different morphology was examined. Five different types of model latexes were used in this study such as random copolymer particle, soft-core/hard-shell particle, hard-core/soft-shell particle, gradient type particle, and mixed type particle. Tensile strength and tensile elongation at break of final films were evaluated. Those properties can be interpreted in terms of PBA/PMMA phase ratio and their morphology. The interfacial adhesion strength was also evaluated using $180^{\circ}$ peel strength measurement and cross hatch cutting test.

액와부 소절개를 통한 원발성 자연기흉의 치료 (Subaxillary Minithoracotomy for Treatment of Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax)

  • Thirty-four patients underwent 39 subaxillary minithoracotomies for the treatment of primary spontaneous pneumothorax from June 1987 to April 1992. The age of patients ranged from 17 to 32 years. The ratio of male to female was 8.8: 1 with male predominance. The associated pulmonary lesions and pleural adhesion were not seen on the chest X-rays in all cases. Average operative time was 83 minutes[30~130 min]. Postoperative average duration of air leakage was 2.4 days, the chest tube indwelling was 5.1 days, and postoperative hospital stay was 8 days, Analgegics were not given for pain control postoperatively In conclusion, the subaxillary minithoracotomy has the following advantages: reducing the operative time, postoperative pain, morbidity, hospital stay, shoulder problems, and excellent cosmetic result.
