This research studied the effects of Backryeoncho (Opuntia ficus-indica var. saboten) extract as an additive in kimchi in various amounts (0%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 1.2%), and its acceptance by middle school students in the Jeonju area. The treated kimchi had a higher pH than the untreated kimchi without extract, and the titratable acidity of the kimchi decreased with the addition of the Backryeoncho extract. The degree of salinity decreased in kimchi with the added Backryeoncho extract in a dose-dependent manner. The cutting force and compression force were higher in kimchi where the extract was added during the fermentation period resulting in improved texture of the kimchi. The addition of the extract slowed growth of total bacteria (1.83~2.12 log CFU/mL) and lactic acid bacteria (1.4 log CFU/mL) as compared with the control sample. In the sensory evaluation of overall taste, kimchi with 0.8% extract added demonstrated higher evaluation in overall categories. The acceptability of Backryeoncho extract as an additive in kimchi among middle school students was higher than in the control sample, with an optimum additive of 0.4% extract, based on the lowest volume of leftovers.
Miscanthus had a higher lignin content (19.5 wt%) and carbohydrate (67.6 wt%) than other herbaceous crops, resulting in higher pellet strength and positive effect on combustion. However, miscanthus also contains a high amount of hydrophobic waxes on its outer surface, cuticula, which limits the pellet quality. The glass transition of lignin and cuticula were related to forming inter-particle bonding, which determined mechanical properties of pellet. To determine the effects of surface waxes, both on the pelletizing process and the pellet strength were compared with raw and extracted samples through solvent extraction. In addition, to clarify the relationship between pellet process parameters and bonding mechanisms, the particle size and temperature are varied while maintaining the moisture content of the materials and the die pressure at constant values. Furthermore, kraft lignin was employed to determine the effect of kraft lignin as an additive in the pellets. As results, the removal of cuticula through ethanol extractions improved the mechanical properties of the pellet by the formation of strong inter-particle interactions. Interestingly, the presence of lignin in miscanthus improves its mechanical properties and decreases friction against the inner die at temperatures above the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of lignin. Consequently, it could found that the use of kraft lignin as an additive in pellet reduced friction in the inner die upon reaching its glass transition temperature.
This work deals with on investigation the influence of various additives to a base stock cutting fluid in order to develop a better deep hold drilling. This investigation has been aiming at developing an oil which gives a maximum cutting efficiency at a minimum wear rate of the tool and the guiding pads. The purpose of study is to analyze how guide pad of tools, workpiece and the change of contained quantity of extreme pressure additive in cutting fluids have effects on the hold over size of cutting hole, surface roughness of workpiece, wear rates of guide pad and roundness during the deep hole machining of SM55C with solid BTA drill by using BTA drilling system through experiment. Conclusion reached is as follows. It has been proved that the contained quantity of surphur more affects machinability than that of extreme pressure additive of chlorine of cutting fluid in BTA drilling during Deep Hole Drilling. Considering its base oil, the the contained quantity of extreme pressure assitive of surphur can be different, but it's judged that the range of 1.5 ~ 2.0% is suitable to machinability for workpiece in BTA drilling. Regarding guide pad, it's judged that the reduction of wear is possible in propotion to the contained quantity of exrreme pressure additive of chlorine against supporting of cutting force and Bumishing operation of machining parts in cutting.
The electrophoretic deposition method using the suspension solution with additives under the electric potential was applied for the fabrication of YBCO superconductor wire. This method was able to simplify the fabrication facilities, and produce an uniform and dense thick film. To improve the critical current density of deposited films, the additive PEGs(Poly Ethylene Glycole) with the molecular weight of 600, 1000 and 3400, were used as chemical binders for the suspension solution. The organic additive PEG showed better effects to the properties of YBCO superconductor wire. The PEG improved the adhesion between superconductor particles and suppressed the crack on the surface, which enhanced the surface uniformity and density of YBCO deposited film. It was found that acetone suspension solution showed better deposition properties than the others. The samples fabricated in the solution with the additive, 8 vol.% of 1% PEG(1000), showed the highest critical current density measured as $2300{\sim}2400\;Acm^2$ at 77 K, 0 T.
Phase separation and low cetane number are the main barriers to the large-scale use of ethanol-diesel blend fuel on small diesel engines. In this paper, an additive package is designed on the basis of the blended fuel properties to overcome these limitations. The experiments show that the solubility of ethanol in diesel is evidently increased by adding $1{\sim}2%$ (in volume) of the additive package and the flammability of ethanol-diesel blend fuel with the additive has reached the neat diesel level under the cold start conditions. Effects of the ethanol content in diesel on fuel economy, combustion characteristics, and emission characteristics are also investigated with the ethanol blend ratios of 10%, 20% and 30%. The increase in ethanol content shows that the specific fuel consumption and the brake thermal efficiency are both gradually increased compared to neat diesel. The soot concentrations of the three blended fuels are all greatly lower than that of neat diesel. $NO_x$ emission is increased with an increase in the engine load and is reduced with the increase in the ethanol blend ratio under a high load.
There is Increasing world-wide interest in diesel particulate filters (DPF) because of their proven effectiveness in reducing exhaust smoke and particulate emissions. Fine particulates have been linked to human health . DPF use requires a means to secure the bum-out of the accumulated soot, a process called regeneration. If this is not achieved, the engine cannot continue to operate. A number of techniques are available, but most are complex, expensive or have a high electrical demand. The use of fuel additives to catalyse soot bum-out potentially solves the problem of securing regeneration reliably and at low cost. Work on organo-metallic fuel additives has shown that certain metals combine to glove exceptional regeneration performance. Best performance was achieved with a combination of iron and strontium based compounds. Tests were carried out un a bed engine and on road vehicles, which demonstrated effective and reliable regeneration from a tow dose fuel additive, using a single passive DPF. No control valves, flow diverters. heaters or other devices were employed to assist regeneration. Independent particle size measurements showed that there were no harmful side effects from the use of the iron-strontium fuel additive.
Heptaplatin, cis-malonato [(4R,5R)-4,5-bis (amino-methyl)-2-isopropyl-1,3-dioxolane] platinum(II) (SKI-2053R, Sunpla) is a new platinum derivative with antitumor activity comparable to cisplatin on various cancer cell lines. Preclinical studies suggest that it is less nephrotoxic than cisplatin. This study was undertaken to examine the combined effect of heptaplatin and ionizing radiation on two established human squamous carcinoma cell lines (NCI-H520, SQ20B). The cytotoxic activity of heptaplatin was concentration-dependent in both cell lines. When low dose heptaplatin was combined with high dose ionizing radiation, there was an additive cytotoxic effect on NCI-H520 cells (P < 0.05), while a moderate dose of heptaplatin and a low dose of ionizing radiation had an additive cytotoxic effect on the growth of SQ20B cells (P < 0.05). FACS analysis and DAPI staining showed that their additive cytotoxic effects were correlated with the induction of apoptosis. Further studies are warranted using heptaplatin and ionizing radiation in squamous cell carcinoma as a substitute for cisplatin.
The particle size of medicinal materials is an important physical property which affects the pharmaceutical behaviors such as dissolution, chemical stability, compressibility and bioavailability of solid dosage forms. The size reduction of raw pharmaceutical powder is needed to formulize insoluble drugs or slightly soluble drugs and to improve the pharmaceutical properties such as the solubility, the pharmaceutical mixing and the dispersion. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the grinding characteristics of ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) as a model of insoluble drugs. The effects of the grinding time and the amount of additive on particle size distribution of ground UDCA were investigated. Grinding of insoluble drug, UDCA and a series of dry co-grinding experiments of UDCA with sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS) as an additive were carried out using a planetary ball mill. It was measured that the median diameter and the particle size distribution of ground products with grinding UDCA and additive SLS by Mastersizer. As a result of co-grinding of UDCA and SLS, the particle size of co-grinding products was decreased more than single grinding one. However, it was observed that co-grinding products were reaggregated to larger particles after 120 min.
This study investigated the effect of 2-methoxy ethanol (2-Me) non-solvent as additive included in casting solution. Macroporous polymer membranes were prepared by using polyethersufone (PES)/N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP)/2-Me casting solution and water coagulant. The phase separation co-process of the vapor-induced phase separation (VIPS) and liquid-induced phase separation (LIPS) were used by means of membrane preparation method. The pore size and pore size distribution were controlled with additive (non-solvent), and measured with Automated Perm Porometer. By increasing additive (non-solvent) in the casting solution, the membranes produced changed from finger structure to sponge structure. That is due to the different diffusion rates. At slow diffusion process, sponge-like structure was formed and at fast diffusion process, finger-like structure was formed. Also relative humidity, evaporation time, temperature of casting solution and coagulation bath etc. had effects on the pore size distribution and the porosity of the membrane.
To provide the clear images from the direct light on electrical board and display devices, anti glare treatment of display cover glass is needed. In this study, the effects of surface treatment temperature, concentration, and etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase on optical elements control such as gloss, haze of reflected light and transmittance, were investigated. Cover glasses were treated at different coating thickness and additive concentration. The optical properties were examined using spectrophotometer, gloss and haze meter. The surface morphology and roughness were measured by the optical microscope and Ra measuring instrument. The etching rate and surface morphologies were dramatically affected by the concentration of acid additive in the viscous gel because of re-crystallization of components in the etching solution, hydrogel formation and coagulant after coating on glass substrate. In our experimental range, cover glass which is surface-treated with various optical properties as well as the morphology uniformity was obtained; in particular, optical properties could be controlled by etching solution coating thickness of the gel phase and the concentration of additive. The gloss was depended on the surface roughness and it showed the linear relationship between optical transmittance and haze of reflected light, respectively.
