This study was conducted to examine how Korean women mange energy metabolism during lactation. Eighteen women recruited were healthy, had normal pregnancies and were required to breast-feed their babies exclusively for at least 12wks. During the study period, all subjects were visited and interviewed five times : 3d, 9d, 4wk, 8wk, and 12wk lactation. Body composition variables were analyzed by a bioelectrical impedance method, energy intakes were assessed by using the inventory-weighing method, energy expenditure were determined by recording daily activities, and milk energy output was investigated from the amount of milk production and the gross energy content of milk. The subjects consumed less energy than current recommended allowance all over the study period, but compatible with fairly adequate lactational performance. They responded the additional energy stress of lactation by enhancing metabolic efficiency, increasing energy intakes, reduction physical activities and mobilizing body reserves. Another finding in this study was that the reduction in body fat-free mass may be the one way that women meet the energy demands of lactation like the reduction in body fat mass. The results from this study suggest that current recommended additional energy need during lactation, 2.09MJ/d(500kcal/d), is too high for healthy Korean women. Our data also indicate that the changes of body composition and energy balance at earlier postpartum are extremely different from those at later periods.
The motion response of floating structures should be adequately low to permit the operation of rigid risers along with dry well heads. Though Spar platforms have low heave responses under lower sea state, could become unacceptable in near resonance region of wave periods. Hence the hydrodynamic response, heave in particular, must be examined to ensure that it is minimized. To reduce heave motions, external damping devices are introduced and one such effective damping device is heave plate. Addition of heave plate can provide additional viscous damping and additional added mass in the heave direction which influence the heave motion. The present study focuses on the influence of heave plate on the hydrodynamic responses of Classic Spar in regular waves. The experimental investigation has been carried out on a 1:100 scale model of Spar with single and double heave plates in regular waves. Numerical investigation has been carried out to derive the hydrodynamic responses using ANSYS AQWA. The experimental results were compared with those obtained from numerical simulation and found to be in good agreement. The influence of disk diameter ratio, wave steepness, pretension in the mooring line and relative spacing between the plates on the hydrodynamic responses of Spar are evaluated and presented.
The effects of temperature and acetonitrile (ACN) concentration on microwave-assisted weak-acid hydrolysis of proteins were investigated. Myoglobin was hydrolyzed for 1 h using 2% formic acid and a microwave with different concentrations of ACN (0, 5, and 10%) at various temperatures (50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and $100^{\circ}C$). The numbers of peptides identified with each concentration of ACN were the same for each temperature. The greatest number of peptides (18 total) was obtained with hydrolysis at $100^{\circ}C$, and 6 of these were a result of additional removal of aspartic acid at the C-terminus. Hydrolysis at $80^{\circ}C$ resulted in 13 peptides, of which only 1 was generated by the additional removal of aspartic acid, and 12 were observed with hydrolysis at $100^{\circ}C$. Our results demonstrate that microwave-assisted weak-acid hydrolysis of proteins can be performed successfully at $80^{\circ}C$, which could be beneficial for limiting side reactions and generating larger peptide sequences.

This study presents a coolant density calculation device and its corresponding method by using a mass flowmeter and the LabVIEW program. The method can be easily measured with a mixture of coolant and by calculating the percentage of ethylene-glycol without additional investment. The cooling water is very important in a vehicle to protect the engine, and the cooling performance is affected by the mixture concentration and coolant density. The coolant density calculation device measures the mixed concentration in the anti-freeze cooling mixture made from distilled water and ethylene-glycol in real time with the mass flowmeter that is commonly attached to the radiator or heater core. The calculation program for the mixture concentration percentage was developed using the LabVIEW software. The correlation between experimental results and the calculation was conducted for a range of temperature from 40 to $90^{\circ}C$ and by varying the mixture ratio of distilled water and ethylene-glycol. As a result, the anti-freeze coolant concentration in the volume percentage is able to monitor the coolant density in a timely basis by implementing a mixture concentration calculation program without the need for additional equipment investment. The results of the calculation for the mixture concentration level show a maximum 2.7% deviation compared to the experimental results.

Using stellar population synthesis techniques, we explore the photometric signatures of white dwarf progenitor dominated galactic halos, in order to constrain the fraction of halo mass that may be locked-up in white dwarf stellar remnants. We first construct a 10^9 M_sun stellar halo using the canonical Salpeter initial stellar mass distribution, and then allow for an additional component of low-and intermediate-mass stars, which ultimately give rise to white dwarf remnants. The analysis for the coolability of the reactor cavity in typical Korean 1000 MWe Nuclear Unit under severe accidents is performed using MELCOR 1.8.3 code. The key parameters molten core-concrete interaction(MCCI) such as melt temperature, concrete ablation history and gas generation are investigated. Total twenty cases are selected according to ejected debris fraction and coolant mass, The ablation rate of concrete decreases as mass of the melt decreases and coolant mass increases. Heat loss from molten pool to coolant is comparable to total decay heat, so concrete ablation is delayed until water is absent and crust begins to remove. Also, overpressurization due to non-condensible gases generated during corium and concrete interacts can cause to additional risk of containment failure. It is concluded that flooded reactor cavity condition is very important to minimize the cavity ablation and pressure load by non-condensible gases on containment.
Mono-disperse particles generated by a condensation particle generator are widely used to meet the experimental and industrial needs. The characteristics of particles generated by homogeneous nucleation have been studied experimentally using a laminar flow condensation particle generator. Dry nitrogen gas saturated with oleic acid vapor was cooled well below the saturation temperature causing the highly supersaturated vapor to nucleate. The dependence of GSD(Geometric Standard Deviation), GMD(Geometric Mean Diameter), and the mass concentration of particles on the temperature at the evaporator, flow rate and the temperature condition at condenser was studied. The experimental results show that the mass concentration of particles is affected by the radial temperature profile at condenser. Nucleation at the center of the condenser causes the mass concentration of particles to increase. The experimental results also show that the suppression of additional nucleation by a constant temperature condition at the condenser increases the mean diameter of particle.
Among the various aspects of offline handwritten character patterns, it is the great variety of writing styles and variations that renders the task of computer recognition very hard. The immense variety of character shape has been recognized but rarely studied during the past decades of numerous research efforts. This paper tries to address the problem of measuring image distortions and handwritten character patterns with respect to reference patterns. This work is based on mass-spring mesh model with the introduction of simulated electric charge as a source of the external force that can aid decoding the shape distortion. Given an input image and a reference image, the charge is defined, and then the relaxation procedure goes to find the optimum configuration of shape or patterns of least potential. The relaxation process is based on the fourth order Runge-Kutta algorithm, well-known for numerical integration. The proposed method of modeling is rigorous mathematically and leads to interesting results. Additional feature of the method is the global affine transformation that helps analyzing distortion and finding a good match by removing a large scale linear disparity between two images.
This paper addresses the modified Dynamic Relaxation algorithm, called mdDR by minimizing displacement error between two successive iterations. In the mdDR method, new relationships for fictitious mass and damping are presented. The results obtained from linear and nonlinear structural analysis, either by finite element or finite difference techniques; demonstrate the potential ability of the proposed scheme compared to the conventional DR algorithm. It is shown that the mdDR improves the convergence rate of Dynamic Relaxation method without any additional calculations, so that, the cost and computational time are decreased. Simplicity, high efficiency and automatic operations are the main merits of the proposed technique.
An integrated optimal structural design method for a diagrid structure and control device was developed. A multi-objective genetic algorithm was used and a 60-story diagrid building structure was developed as an example structure. Artificial wind and earthquake loads were generated to assess the wind-induced and seismic responses. A smart tuned mass damper (TMD) was used as a structural control system and an MR (magnetorheological) damper was employed to develop a smart TMD (STMD). The multi-objective genetic algorithm used five objectives including a reduction of the dynamic responses, additional stiffness and damping, mass of STMD, capacity of the MR damper for the integrated optimization of a diagrid structure and a STMD. From the proposed method, integrated optimal designs for the diagrid structure and STMD were obtained. The numerical simulation also showed that the STMD provided good control performance for reducing the wind-induced and seismic responses of a tall diagrid building structure.
