  • Polyolefins show a very healthy growth rate among commodity polymer resins due to their low feedstock prices, recyclable and environmentally friendly characteristics and easily controllable performances. Capacity investment in polyolefin field is now moving from technology region to consumer region and feedstock region. Therefore, key success factors for polyolefin business in the other region such as Korea are cost reduction, development of highly value-added products and new applications and substitution of PVC, PS, PET and other EPs. To add additional value to commodity polyolefin products, high level of platform technology such as catalyst, process and structure-properties relationship is needed. Progress on polyolefin products has been very closely related to catalyst and process technology. According to this trend, SK Corporation has devoted a lot of research effort into development of new value-added polyolefin products based on the proprietary technology platform.

  • The purpose of this article is to introduce a useful methodology of effective goal-setting for the team-level units. As a way to overcome some common symptoms in terms of Strategic Performance Evaluation System such as lack of knowledge on goal-setting, disconnection of process, problem of judging the degree of difficulty about objectives, limits of staff departments evaluation, fairness and authority of evaluators, weakness in coaching technique, and quantity or figure-oriented evaluation, to name a few, and to seek a more plausible goal-setting methodology, the author suggests a persuasive goal-setting concept: VAR(Value-Added Results). VAR, as the end-results, is the team contributions that add value to the organization, and it results from the team's activities. In addition to these goal-setting technique based on the concept of value-added results, several aspects should be improved for Strategic Performance Evaluation System to be implemented more effectively. They are: 1) shift from MBO to MP & D(Managing Performance & Development), 2) impartial exercise of evaluation authority as a organizational public assets, 3) reinforcement of maternal leadership and servantship instead of paternal leadership, 4) utilization of IT-based evaluation system.

산수유 분말을 첨가한 쿠키의 품질 특성에 관한 연구 (Quality Characteristics of Sugar Snap-Cookie with Added Cornus fructus)

  • This study examined the effects of Cornus fructus addition to suger snap cookies on WRC (water rentention capacity) and AWRC (alkaline water retention capacity). WRC and AWRC increased as more Cornus fructus powder was added, whereas the sedimentation value and Pelshenke value decreased. Regarding cookie color, L value decreased, whereas the a and b values increased. As the cookie diameter became smaller, thickness increased and spread factor decreased. Hardness of the cookies decreased, and preference was highest for cookies with 5% added Cornus fructus. The preferences for cookies were in the following order: 7% < 3% < 1% < 0% < 5% addition. In conclusion, addition of less than 5% Cornus fructus powder was the most desirable. To complement cookie appearance, it seems necessary to adjust the water content of Cornus fructus powder or add an emulsifier.

고등어 구이를 위한 허브 소스의 품질 평가에 대한 연구 (Evaluation of the Quality Characteristic of Herb Sauce for the Roasted Mackerel)

  • An investigation evaluating the preparation and physicochemical properties of sauce with various herbs(sancho, sage, and rosemary) derived from soy sauce was performed. The effects of the different kinds of herbs added to sauce for roasted mackerel were assessed using physiochemical, sensory, flavor, and texture analysis properties. This fish was then compared to, fish with salt. The moisture, crude protein, crude fat, and crude ash content of the roasted mackerel were significantly higher than the control(p<0.05, p<0.001). The salinity content of the herb sauce added samples were significantly higher than the control(p<0.05). Conversely, the pH and peroxide value of the herb sauce added samples were significantly lower than the control(p<0.001). A positive trend was observed for color value with sancho added sauce(p<0.001). The another positive effects on the texture of fish was observed for texture analysis, adhesiveness, springiness, gumminess, and chewiness with herb sauce added samples(p<0.05). In the flavor profile, the fishy smell was disappeared and antifungal flavor was improved with herb added sauce. Flavor, taste, texture, and overall preference of herb sauce were significantly highest in sancho added sauce(p<0.05, p<0.001). Results suggest that the best herb sauce for roasted mackerel was sancho added sauce.

동북아 부가가치 석유물류 비즈니스 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Business Model for Value Added Petroleum Logistics in Northeast Asia)

  • 한·중·일을 포함하는 동북아지역은 1990년대 이후 급속한 경제성장과 더불어 역내외 석유물류가 증대되고 있다. 우리나라는 이러한 대외적인 환경하에서 2000년대 중반 이후 동북아 석유물류허브화 정책을 추진해 왔다. 동북아 물류허브화를 위해서는 부가가치 석유물류의 비즈니스 활성화를 위한 비즈니스 모델의 구축과 촉진이 중요하다. 동북아 지역에서 우리나라 석유물류 비즈니스 모델을 분석함으로써 석유물류 활성화에 대한 정책적·실무적 시사점을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 전체 23개 탱키지 업체를 대상으로 면담조사에 의한 사례분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 면담조사한 대부분의 유류저장탱크터미널업체들은 블랜딩, 소분화, 집적화와 같은 부가가치 석유물류를 실시하고 있다. 둘째, 부가가치 석유물류의 발생은 주변국들간 수급의 불균형에 의해 발생하고 있는데 특히 일본, 오세아니아, 미국, 남미 등을 연결하는 소분화와 블랜딩 수요가 높다. 셋째, 부가가치 물류수요에 대응한 인프라, 제도 및 규제 등에 대한 개선을 통해 부가가치 석유물류의 활성화를 촉진해야 할 것이며 이는 우리나라의 동북아 오일허브 정책에 크게 기여하게 될 것이다.

산불의 공간적 확산이 농촌지역경제에 미치는 영향 분석 (Analysis of Agricultural Regional Economic Effect by Spatial Dispersal of Wildfire in Korea)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate regional economic effects of spatial diffusion of wildfire using Cobb-Douglas production function of agriculture and forestry. The analysis is applied to Gangwon and Gyeongbuk provinces where are the most damaged of wildfire in Korea. The damaged areas are derived from multiplied by the occurrence probability of wildfire and diffusion areas of wildfire for micro-spatial unit level with ArcGIS techniques. The models of wildfire provides that the spatial diffusion of wildfire increases with the rising of highest temperature and average wind speed. Through the production function, value added of Agriculture and Forest sectors get damaged where the Cos-converted slope aspect of mountains are toward the South. The production model provides reductions of regional value added by increasing damaged areas of wildfire. It reveals that the most damaged region is Andong city in Gyeongbuk province, where value added loss is 1.25 billion Won, which is about 0.72% of total value added in agriculture and forestry of the city. As a view of policy makers, it needs to be considered to establish prevention policies against wildfires because regional economic losses from wildfire are depending on geographical conditions and performances of the major industry related to wildfire's diffusion such as agriculture or tourism sector according to the result of analysis.

로즈마리 추출분말을 첨가한 돈육 떡갈비의 품질 및 저장특성 (Quality and Storage Characteristics of Pork Teokgalbi with Added Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis) Extract Powder)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effects of adding rosemary extract powder (REP) to pork teokgalbi on its quality and storage characteristics. Five types of teokgalbi were tested, viz. with no REP added (normal, N), with 0.05% ascorbic acid added (control, C) and with 0.05% (R1), 0.1% (R2) and 0.2% (R3) of REP added. The proximate composition, calorific value, water holding capacity and cooking loss were not significantly different among the different types of pork teokgalbi. The L and a values of the teokgalbi containing REP were significantly lower than those of the N and C groups. As regards the textural characteristics, the addition of 0.2% REP increased the springiness value. In the sensory evaluation, the teokgalbi with the addition of 0.1% REP had higher scores in flavor and total acceptability. The 2-thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, total microbial count and volatile basic nitrogen content of the teokgalbi containing 0.2% REP were lower than those of the N group. In conclusion, R3 was significantly more effective in delaying lipid peroxidation than the other treatment groups. Therefore, rosemary extract could be used as a natural antioxidant in meat products.

디지털 프린팅을 활용한 고부가 가치 티셔츠 디자인 (A Study on High Value Added T-Shirts Design Using Digital Printing)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the expressional characteristics of T-shirts design using digital printing. Through digital printing system, a variety of patterns and pictures can be printed on T-shirts in a relatively short time. At this backdrop, the result of this research can aid to develop design of T-shirts with a high value added on it. The result was that the printing methods were categorized into borrowing the pictures of masterpieces, applying photography or caricatures, introducing graffiti or lettering, and representing industrial arts. In conclusion, digital printing system unlike the established printing method can have almost an unlimited range of expressing various kinds of pictures and patterns, so that designers may develop high value-added differentiated T-shirts. In other words, by creating a variety of designs with no limit of its quantity, its expressive range can be more widened and with an increased development of plotting machines, we may manufacture more varied kinds of products in a small quantity at a faster rate.

CONTRIBUTION OF NUCLEAR POWER TO THE NATIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN KOREA

  • Over the last three decades, nuclear technology development has played a vital role in the socio-economic development of the Republic of Korea. This study, being the first of its kind, focuses on quantifying the actual economic contribution of nuclear technologies to economic development by evaluating the net benefit of the nuclear power with respect to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). An input-output analysis was employed as a methodological approach to analyze inter-industrial economic activities by calculating the industrial value added as a means of the economic contribution during the period of 1980 to 2005. The industrial value added of nuclear technologies was estimated from the construction and operation of nuclear power (backward-linked industrial value added) and from the industrial activities attributed to the electricity generated by the nuclear power (forward-linked industrial value added). It was found that the total net contribution of nuclear technologies as a percentage share of GDP amounted to 2.38% in 2005.

일 병원의 비부가가치 간호활동에 관한 연구 (Study on Non-Value-Added Nursing Activities in a Tertiary Hospital)

  • Purpose: Purposes of this study were to identify non-value-added nursing activities (NVANAs) and to estimate the amount of time spent on NVANAs among total nursing activities. Methods: Non-value-added nursing activities were identified though the use of a focus group. The nurses in the focus group were nurses working in a tertiary hospital. They discussed possible activities that could be NVANAs. Based on the focus group discussion, a pilot study was done to examine the actual occurrence of NVANAs in clinical settings. Results: The focus group discussion showed that NVANAs occurred in ten categories of nursing performances including communication with physicians, communication with other departments, medications, equipment/supplies, nursing records, tests, admission, discharge, and transfer. Direct nursing activities accounted for 35.5% of total nursing activities while indirect nursing activities accounted for 64.5%. Of indirect nursing activities, 16% were NVANAs. Most NVANAs were related to communication and equipment/supplies. Conclusions: To improve the quality and efficiency of nursing activities, it is necessary to identify NVANAs and their causes. Results of this study suggest that improvement in the work process and nursing unit structure, support for equipment/supplies, and effective communication are needed to reduce NVANAs in tertiary hospitals in Korea.
