The source and source/dipole distribution methods using 3-dimensional panel method have been widely used for ship motion analysis. When these methods are used, large errors in the predicted hydrodynamic coefficients are introduced around the irregular frequencies caused by the resonance of imaginary internal flow. Therefore, the irregular frequencies need to be removed for an accurate prediction of ship motion. This paper adopts 3-dimensional translating and oscillating Green function derived by Wu. The adaptive integration method, stretching transform and stationary phase method are used for the calculation of the calculation of Green function and the integral equation is derived by distributing the Green function n ship surface and inner free-surface. The condition of zero normal velocity, that is, wall condition on inner free-surface has been successfully used for the removal of irregular frequencies in oscillating problems. The calculations are carried out for series 60($C_B=0.7$) vessel and the results are compared with those of other theoretical analyses and experiment.
In this paper, a target approachable force-guided control with adaptive accommodation for the complex assembly is presented. The complex assembly (CA) is defined as a task which deals with complex shaped parts including concavity or whose environment is so complex that unexpected contacts occur frequently during insertion. CA tasks are encountered frequently in the field of the manufacturing automation and various robot applications. To make CA successful, both the bounded wrench condition and the target approachability condition should be satisfied simultaneously during insertion. By applying the convex optimization technique, an optimum target approaching twist can be determined at each instantaneous contact state as a global minimum solution. Incorporated with an admissible perturbation method, a new CA algorithm using only the sensed resultant wrench and the target twist is developed without motion planning nor contact analysis which requires the geometry of the part and the environment. Finally, a VME-bus based real-time control system is built to experiment various CA task. T-insertion task as a planar CA and double-peg assembly task as a spacial assembly were successfully executed by implementing the new force-guided control with adaptive accommodation.

Active compliance is often used in the control of robot manipulators for the implementation of complex tasks such as assembly, multi-finger fine motion, legged-vehicle adaptive control, etc. This technique balances the interactive force between the manipulator tip and its working environment with its position and velocity errors to achieve the operation of a damped spring. This paper investigates the effecft of passive compliance on system stability with regard to force feedback implementation for actively compliant motion. Usually it is understood that accurate position control require a stiff system. However, theoretical examination of control experiments on a legged suspension vehicle suggests that, if the control includes discrete-time force feedback, some passive compliance is necessssary at the legs of the vehicle for system stability. This can be an important factor to bl considered in manipulator design and control. A theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental result, confirming the above conclusion, are introduced in this paper.
This paper presents the convected material frame approach to study the nonlinear behavior of inelastic frame structures. The convected material frame approach is a modification of the co-rotational approximation by incorporating an adaptive convected material frame in the basic definition of the displacement vector and strain tensor. In the formulation, each discrete element is associated with a local coordinate system that rotates and translates with the element. For each load increment, the corresponding strain-displacement and nodal force-stress relationships are defined in the updated local coordinates, and based on the updated element geometry. The rigid body motion and deformation displacements are decoupled for each increment. This modified approach incorporates the geometrical nonlinearities through the continuous updating of the material frame geometry. A generalized nonlinear function is used to derive the inelastic constitutive relation and the kinematic hardening is considered. The equation of motion is integrated by an explicit procedure and it involves only vector assemblage and vector storage in the analysis by assuming a lumped mass matrix of diagonal form. Several numerical examples are demonstrated in close agreement with the solutions obtained by the ANSYS code. Numerical studies show that the proposed approach is capable of investigating large deflection of inelastic planar structures and providing an excellent numerical performance.

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the human body having more muscles than its degree-of-freedom modulates an effective stiffness using redundant actuation, and to apply this concept to the design and control of advanced machines which requires adaptable spring. To investigate the adaptable stiffness phenomenon due to redundant actuation in the human body, this paper derives a general stiffness model of the Human body. In particular, for a planar 1 DOF human arm model, a planar 2 DOF human arm model, a spherical 3 DOF shoulder model, a 4 DOF human arm model, and a 7 DOF human arm model, the required nonlinear geometry ad the number of required actuator for successful modulation of the effective stiffness are analyzed along with a load distribution method for modulation of the required stiffness of such systems. Secondly, the concept of motion frequency modulation is introduced to show the usefulness of adaptive stiffness modulation. The motion frequency modulation represents a control of stiffness and / or inertia properties of systems. To show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, simulations are performed for 2 DOF anthropomorphic robot.

Applications of Sigma-Delta STAP, and a method of GMTI processing are presented for GMTI(Ground Moving Target Indication) mode of airborne radar with sigma, delta, and guard channels. We showed results of performance analyses of presented methods by clutter simulation with ICM(Internal Clutter Motion), signal processing simulation and MDV(Minimum Detectable Velocity). Presented methods for Sigma-Delta STAP and GMTI processing are easy to apply practically in GMTI mode of airborne radar without restriction by specific airborne radar system.

Hierarchical B-frame coding was introduced into H.264/SVC to provide temporal scalability and improve coding performance. A content analysis-based adaptive group of picture structure (AGS) can further improve the coding efficiency, but damages the inter-frame correlation and temporal scalability of hierarchical B-frame to different degrees. In this paper, we propose a group of pictures (GOP) adaptation coding method based on the positions of video cuts. First, the cut positions are accurately detected by the combination of motion coherence (MC) and mutual information (MI); then the GOP is adaptively and proportionately set by the analysis of MC in one scene. In addition, we propose a binary tree algorithm to achieve the temporal scalability of any size of GOP. The results for test sequences and real videos show that the proposed method reduces the bit rate by up to about 15%, achieves a performance gain of about 0.28-1.67 dB over a fixed GOP, and has the advantages of better transmission resilience and video summaries.
Variable Curvature Friction Pendulum (VCFP) bearing is one of the alternatives to control excessive induced responses of isolated structures subjected to near-fault ground motions. The curvature of sliding surface in this isolator is varying with displacement and its function is non-spherical. Selecting the most appropriate function for the sliding surface depends on the design objectives and ground motion characteristics. To date, few polynomial functions have been experimentally tested for VCFP however it needs comprehensive parametric study to find out which one provides the most effective behavior. Herein, seismic performance of the isolated structure mounted on VCFP is investigated with two different polynomial functions of the sliding surface (Order 4 and 6). By variation of the constants in these functions through changing design parameters, 120 cases of isolators are evaluated and the most proper function is explored to minimize floor acceleration and/or isolator displacement under different hazard levels. Beside representing the desire sliding surface with adaptive behavior, it was shown that the polynomial function with order 6 has least possible floor acceleration under seven near-field ground motions in different levels.

There have been many demands for th ereal-time image compression. The image compression systems have a wide range of applications. However, real-time encoding is hard to implement because it needs a large amount of computations. In particular, the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and motion estimatio require a large number of arithmetic oeprations compared to other algorithms in MPEG-2. The conventional fasdt DCT algorithms have focused on the reduction of the number of additions more cycles and more expense in realization. Because TMS320C80 has special structure, new approach for implementation of DCT is suggested. The selection of adaptive algorithm and optimization is requried TMS320C80 are analyzed an dsome adaptive DCT algorithms are selected. The DCT algorithms are optimized and implemented. Chens and lees DCT algorithms among various fast algorithms are selected because 1-D approach is effective in the view of th einternal structure of TMS320C80. According to the simulation result, Lees algorithm is more effective in speed and has little difference in precision. On the basis of the result, the possibility of DCT implementation for real-time MPEG-2 system is verified and the required number of the processor, called advanced DSP, is decided for real-time MPEG-2 encoding and decoding.

To enhance tracking efficiency, a target-tracking filter with a resource management algorithm is required. One of the resource management algorithms chooses or evaluates the proper sampling time using cost functions which are related to the target tracking filter. We propose a resource management algorithm for bearing only tracking environments. Since the tracking performance depends on the system observability, the bearing-only tracking is one of challenging target-tracking fields. The proposed algorithm provides the adaptive sampling time using the variation rate of the error covariance matrix from the target-tracking filter. The simulation verifies the efficiency performance of the proposed algorithm.
