In many areas of finite element analysis, elements with special properties are required to achieve maximal accuracy. As examples, we may mention infinite elements for the representation of spatial domain that extend to special and singular elements for modeling point and line singularities engendered by geomeric features such as reentrant corners and cracks. In this paper, we study on modified shape function representing singular properties and algorigthm for the pollution adaptive mesh generation. We will also show that the modified shape function reduces pollution error and local error.

We present an intelligent forging simulator AFDEX. The intelligent forging simulator is determined by the adaptive and optimal mesh generation technique and many intelligent application-oriented special functions which minimize the user-intervention during forging simulation. Of course, the solution accuracy should be optimized in the intelligent simulation. We have developed AFDEX to meet the requirement on intelligent simulation. Its characteristics are introduced with the help of typical application examples.
A procedure is proposed to generate optimal grid with minimal user intervention while keeping a prescribed level of accuracy, using an adaptive X-FEM and applied to shape optimization. In spite of various advantages of X-FEM, however, there are several obstacles for practical applications. Because of using a uniform background mesh and additional degree of freedoms for enrichment, an X-FEM is usually computationally more expensive than traditional finite element method. Furthermore, there are often accuracy problems. For an automatic procedure of optimal mesh generation, an h-adaptive scheme and a posteriori error estimation obtained by a post-processing process are utilized. The procedure is shown by 2-D shape optimization examples.

Adaptive mesh refinement scheme is incorporated with the boundary element analysis in order to get accurate solution with relatively fewer unnowns for magnetostatic field analysis. A new andsimple posteriori local error estimate is also presented. The local error is defined as an integraktion over the element of the difference between solutions from quadratic interpolation functions and linear interpolation functions and is used as the criterion for mesh refinement. Case study with a singular point reveals that adaptive meshes are more efficient in accuracy of solutions than uniform meshs generated by dividing al the elements evenly. The adaptive meshes give much better rate of convergence in global errors than the uniform meshes.

In a finite element analysis of the metal forming processes having large plastic deformation, largely distorted elements are unstable and hence they influence upon the result toward negative way so that adaptive remeshing is required to avoid a failure in the numerical computation. Therefore automatic mesh generation and regeneration is very important to avoid a numerical failure in a finite element analysis. In case of generating quadrilateral mesh, the automation is more difficult than that of triangular mesh because of its geometric complexity. However its demand is very high due to the precision of analysis. Thus, in this study, an automatic quadrilateral mesh generation and regeneration method using grid-based approach is developed. The developed method contains decision of grid size to generate initial mesh inside a two dimensional domain, classification of boundary angles and inner boundary nodes to improve element qualities in case of concave domains, and boundary projection to construct the final mesh.
The accuracy of the finite element method depends upon the mesh that is used in the analysis. The temperature around the arc is higher than the melting point of the materials, and it drops sharply in the regions just away from the arc. This requires an extremely fine mesh in the confined high temperature region to predict the temperature accurately in that region. But the computational time increases with the fineness of mesh. Since fine mesh is required only around the arc source, adaptivity of the input mesh according to the position of the arc source is efficient. The remeshing technique gives a fine mesh in the high temperature region around the arc and a coarse mesh in other region at any time step. With this it is possible to achieve desired accuracy with less computation time. In this study a transient adaptive mesh, remeshing technique, is developed and calculated temperature for a sample problem.
An adaptive cut-cell grid based 2D inundation analysis model, K-Flood, is developed in this study. Cut cell grid method divides a grid into a flow area and a non-flow area depending the characteristics of the flows. With adaptive mesh refinement technique cut cell method can represent complex flow area using relatively small number of cells. In recent years, the urban inundation modeling using high resolution and fine quality data is increasing to achieve more accurate flood analysis or flood forecasting. K-Flood has potential to simulate such complex urban inundation using efficient grid generation technique. A finite volume numerical scheme of second order accuracy for space and time was applied. For verification of K-Flood, 1) shockwave reflex simulation by circular cylinder, 2) urban flood experiment simulation, 3) Malpasset dam collapse simulation are performed and the results are compared with observed data and previous simulation results.
We study the problem of controlling data overhead of mesh-based multicast ad hoc routing protocols by adaptively adding redundancy to the minimal data overhead multicast mesh as required by the network conditions. We show that the computation of the minimal data overhead multicast mesh is NP-complete, and we propose an heuristic approximation algorithm inspired on epidemic algorithms. In addition, we propose a mobility-aware and adaptive mesh construction algorithm based on a probabilistic path selection being able to adapt the reliability of the multicast mesh to the mobility of the network. Our simulation results show that the proposed approach, when implemented into ODMRP, is able to offer similar performance results and a lower average latency while reducing data overhead between 25 to 50% compared to the original ODMRP.

An automated dynamic structural analysis module stands as a crucial element within a structural integrated mitigation system. This module must deliver prompt real-time responses to enable timely actions, such as evacuation or warnings, in response to the severity posed by the structural system. The finite element method, a widely adopted approximate structural analysis approach globally, owes its popularity in part to its user-friendly nature. However, the computational efficiency and accuracy of results depend on the user-provided finite element mesh, with the number of elements and their quality playing pivotal roles. This paper introduces a computationally efficient adaptive mesh generation scheme that optimally combines the h-method of node movement and the r-method of element division for mesh refinement. Adaptive mesh generation schemes automatically create finite element meshes, and in this case, representative strain values for a given mesh are employed for error estimates. When applied to dynamic problems analyzed in the time domain, meshes need to be modified at each time step, considering a few hundred or thousand steps. The algorithm's specifics are demonstrated through a standard cantilever beam example subjected to a concentrated load at the free end. Additionally, a portal frame example showcases the generation of various robust meshes. These examples illustrate the adaptive algorithm's capability to produce robust meshes, ensuring reasonable accuracy and efficient computing time. Moreover, the study highlights the potential for the scheme's effective application in complex structural dynamic problems, such as those subjected to seismic or erratic wind loads. It also emphasizes its suitability for general nonlinear analysis problems, establishing the versatility and reliability of the proposed adaptive mesh generation scheme.
An attempt has been made to determination the NC milling machine's tool-path through the adaptive parabolic interpolation method & the adaptive linear-parabolic interpolation method in consideration of the economical machining time. The algorithms for the above-mentioned interpolation methods have been designed and the numerical experiments for these methods have been conducted with the existing adaptive linear interpolation methods for comparision.
