  • The Tonpilz transducer is one of the essential elements in active sonar application. The characteristics of transducer depend on the piezoelectric ceramics and mechanical elements such as head mass, tail mass, pre-stress rod and so on. One of the important characteristics is electric and mechanical stability of transducer for long term high power transmitting operation. This parer presents the results about long term endurance tests of the underwater acoustic transducer.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of LNA-Mixer for 2.45GHz RFID reader. The LNA is implemented by PCSNIM method for low power consumption. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, current bleeding technique, and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. The connection between the two designed circuits is made by active balun. This LNA-Mixer has about 35dB for -40dBm input RF power, LO power is 0dBm and RF frequency is 2.45 GHz and IIP3 is -4dBm. The layout of LNA-Mixer for one-chip design in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ TSMC process has 2.6mm ${\times}$ 1.3mm size.

  • 기존의 인터넷 라우터는 Drop tail 방식으로 패킷을 관리한다. 따라서 네트워크 트래픽의 지수적인 증가로 인한 혼잡 상황으로 발생하는 패킷 손실을 해결 한 수 없다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)에서는 REU(Random Early Detection) 알고리즘과 같은 능동적인 큐 관리 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 하지만 RED 알고리즘은 네트워터 환경에 따른 매개 변수의 설정의 어려움을 가지고 치어 잘못 된 매개변수 설정으로 인하여 네트워크 성능이 저하되는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 RED를 개선한 ARED를 제안했다. ARED는 RED 알고리즘의 문제점을 개선하여 네트워크 특성에 맞추어 동적으로 매개변수글 조절하는 알고리즘이다. ns를 이용한 실험을 통하여 ARED의 성능을 검증하였다.

  • This paper presents the design and analysis of LNA-Mixer for 2.45GHz RFID reader. The LNA is implemented by PCSNIM method for low power consumption. The Mixer is implemented by using the Gilbert-type configuration, current bleeding technique and the resonating technique for the tail capacitance. The connection between the two designed circuits is made by active balun. This LNA-Mixer has about 22dB gain and 8.5dB Noise Figure for -50dBm input RF power, LO power is 0dBm, RF frequency is 2.45 GHz and IF frequency is 100kHz. The layout of LNA-Mixer for one-chip design in a 0.18-um TSMC process has $2.5mm{\times}1.0mm$ size.

사상자 물추출물의 혈액 응고 작용 (Hemostatic Action of Torilis fructus)

  • The acetone precipitates of the hot water extract of Torilis ftuctus showed strong hemostatic activity which was not inhibited by aspirin. This activity was not through platelet activation but possibly through activating some coagulation factors in plasma. The hemostatic action of the precipitates was not active by oral adminitration and no behavioral toxicity was appeared in treated mice. However, mice treated with the acetone precipitates through tail vein showed serious tremor and then were killed probably by the thrombus produced in the body. The hemostatic activity was still remained after treatment with $\beta$-glucosidase, $\beta$-alactosidase, $\alpha$-amylase, subtilisin BPN', or trypsin but completely lost by acid hydrolysis. The active components seemed to be a complex of unidentified macromolecules to which some phenolic compounds were strongly bound.

Ultrastructural Study on Spermatogenesis and Sexual Maturation of the Male Jicon Scallop, Chlamys farreri on the West Coast of Korea

  • Gonadosomatic index, reproductive cycle, spermatogenesis and first sexual maturity of Chlamys farreri were investigated by cytological and histological observations, from January 1998 to December 1999. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) rapidly increased in April and reached a maximum in May when seawater temperature rapidly increase. Then the GSI gradually decreased from June to August when spawning occur. Accordingly, monthly changes in the GSI in males coincide with the reproductive cycle. The spermatozoon of Chlamys farreri is the primitive type found in external fertilization species. The head of the spermatozoon is approximately $2.75{\mu}m$ in length including the acrosome measuring about $0.50{\mu}m$ in length, and its tail was approximately $20{\mu}m$, the axoneme of the tail flagellum consists of nine pairs of microtubules at the periphery and a pair at the center. Five spherical mitochondria around the centriole (the satellite body) appear in the middle piece of the sperm. The spawning period was from June to August and the main spawning occurs from July to August when seawater temperatures are greater than $20^{\circ}C$ The reproductive cycle of this species can be categorized into five successive stages; early active stage (January to March), late active stage (March to April), ripe stage (April to August), partially spawned stage (June to August), and spent/inactive stage (August to January). Over 50% of male scallops attained first sexual maturity between 50.0 and 60.0 mm in shell height, and 100% of those over 60.0 mm in shell height achieved maturity. Accordingly, we assume that male individuals begin reproduction at three years of age.

  • Mammals such as dogs and cheetahs change their gait from trot to gallop as they run faster. However, lizards always trot for various speeds of running. When mammals run slowly with trot gait, their fore leg and hind leg generate the required force for acceleration or deceleration such that the yaw moments created by these forces cancel each other. On the other hand, when lizards run slowly, their fore legs and hind legs generate the forces for deceleration and acceleration, respectively. In this paper, the yaw motion of a lizard model is controlled by the movement of their waist and tail, and the reaction moment from the ground produced by the hind legs in simulation. The simulation uses the whole body dynamics of a lizard model, which consists of 4 links based on the Callisaurus draconoides. The results show that the simulated trotting of the model is similar to that of a real lizard when the movement of the model is optimized to minimize the reaction moment from the ground. It means that the body of a lizard moves in such a way that the reaction moment from the ground is minimized. This demonstrates our hypothesis on how lizards trot using body motion.

Search for the Comet Activity of 107P/(4015)Wilson-Harrington during 2009/2010 Apparition

  • 107P/(4015) Wilson-Harrington is one of possible candidates of the dormant or inactive comet nuclei. It was discovered on a photographic plate exposed with the 48-inch Schmidt at Palomar Observatory on 1949 November 19 UT, displaying the faint extended cometary tail. No comet activity has not been after 1949 apparition. Here we present the optical observations of 107P/(4015) Wilson - Harrington during 2009/2010 apparition taken in search of low-level comet activity. Our photometric and spectroscopic data were collected 28 - 86 days after the perihelion passage on 2009 October 22 in a wide range of solar phase angle of 39-68 degree. A disk-integrated phase function was constructed, giving a geometric albedo of 0.055+/-0.012, phase integral of q=0.34, and Bond albedo of A_B=0.019. The photometric property shows profile similar to low albedo asteroids and comet nuclei. Any emission lines were found in our spectrum, giving a flat reflectance similar to low albedo asteroids. Although we could not find any evidence for the comet activity in our photometric and spectroscopic data, we found an upper limit of the fractional active area of 0.001%. We derived the upper limit of the optical depth of the dust trail and tail 7x10^{-10}. We conclude that 107P/(4015)Wilson-Harrington became completely dormant or inactive in 2009/2010 return.

  • This study describes spermatogenesis and sperm ultrastructure of the granular ark, Tegillarca granosa using light and electron microscopy. In the active spermatogenic season, the testis comprises many spermatogenic follicles that contain germ cells in different developmental stages. Primary spermatocytes in the pachytene stage are characterized by synaptonemal complexes. The early spermatids are characterized by the appearance of several Golgi bodies, increased karyoplasmic electron density, and tubular mitochondria. The mass of proacrosomal granules consists of numerous heterogeneous granules with high electron density that are about 20 nm in diameter. From the midstage of spermiogenesis, the well-developed mitochondria in the cytoplasm aggregate posterior to the nucleus and surround the proximal and distal centrioles. The proacrosomal granules condense and form a single acrosome with a thin envelope. During late spermiogenesis, the acrosome begins to elongate becoming conical. The sperm is approximately $35.0{\mu}m$ long and consists of a head, midpiece, and tail. The head comprises a round nucleus and a conical acrosome. A micro fibrous axial rod is observed between the nucleus and acrosome. The midpiece has a calyx-like structure with five mitochondria, and the tail, which has the typical "9+2" microtubular system, originates from the distal centriole.

TCP/IP 네트워크에서 ARED 알고리즘의 성능 개선 (Improve ARED Algorithm in TCP/IP Network)

  • 인터넷에서 종단간 혼잡제어 방식을 지원하기 위해 제안된 라우터에서 큐에 적용되어 패킷을 폐기하는 방법으로 능동적 큐 관리(AQM;Active queue management) 방법이 적용되고 있다. IETF에서 제안된 AQM 알고리즘은 RED(Random Early Detection) 방식이다. RED 알고리즘은 망의 높은 처리율과 낮은 평균 지연을 얻기 위해 네트워크에서 운영된다. 하지만 평균 큐 길이는 네트워크의 혼잡 레벨에 민감한 결과를 갖게 된다. 본 논문에서는 RED 성능에 영향을 미치는 파라메터의 민감성을 감소시키고 성능을 개선시키기 위해 정련된 적응 RED(RARED; Refined Adaptive RED)를 제안한다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 네트워크 전체의 개선된 RARED 알고리즘을 관찰하고 RARED가 패킷 폐기율의 감소와 성공적인 전송률의 개선이 이루어짐을 보여준다.
