  • Seismic performance of semi-active fuzzy control algorithm to operate MR dampers for coupling adjacent building is investigated in this paper. In the proposed semi-active control technique, the fuzzy logic is used as a method to adjust input voltage to MR damper. In order to validate control performance of proposed technique, the seismic performance of the semi-active fuzzy control system is compared with that of passive control system where the input voltage to MR damper is set to display maximum damping force. The simulated results show that the semi-active fuzzy control technique effectively regulates the trade-off existing between seismic responses of two buildings subject to various earthquake excitations.

  • Paging extensions for Mobile IP was proposed to avoid unnecessary registration signaling overhead of Mobile IP. In order to support the paging function in Mobile IP, the slates of a mobile node arc divided into active on, active off, idle. The active on state means when any incoming or outgoing data session arrives to a mobile node. After data session is completed, the state of the motile node is changed into active off from active on. At this moment, the active timer starts to be operated. If the active timer expires, the mobile node moves to idle state. If a mobile node has very frequently data sessions at the same cell, the mobile node is better to move slowly into idle state. The other way, if the mobile node very frequently moves into new cell area and receives or sends little data, the mobile node is better to move earlier into idle state. In this raper, the active timer is adaptively set by the mobile nodes traffic and mobility characteristics and the paging scheme using this active timer is proposed to reduce the location registration cost.

  • The paper first reviews the theory of active tendon control with decentralized Integral Force Feedback (IFF) and collocated displacement actuator and force sensor; a formal proof of the formula giving the maximum achievable damping is provided for the first time. Next, the potential of the control strategy for the control of suspension bridges with active stay cables is evaluated on a numerical model of an existing footbridge; several configurations are investigated where the active cables connect the pylon to the deck or the deck to the catenary. The analysis confirms that it is possible to provide a set of targeted modes with a considerable amount of damping, reaching ${\xi}=15%$. Finally, the control strategy is demonstrated experimentally on a laboratory mock-up equipped with four control stay cables equipped with piezoelectric actuators. The experimental results confirm the excellent performance and robustness of the control system and the very good agreement with the predictions.

  • In this paper, a novel control scheme compensating source voltage unbalance and harmonic currents for hybrid active power filters is proposed, where no low/high-pass filters are used in compensation voltage composition. The phase angle and compensation voltages for source harmonic current and unbalanced voltage components are derived from the positive sequence component of the unbalanced voltage set, which is simply obtained by using digital all-pass filters. Since a balanced set of the source voltage obtained by scaling the positive sequence components is used as reference values for source current and load voltage, it is possible to eliminate the necessity of low/high-pass filters in the reference generation. Therefore the control algorithm is much simpler and gives more stable performance than the conventional method. In addition, the source harmonic current is eliminated by compensating for the harmonic voltage of the load side added to feedback control of the fundamental component.

  • In this paper, a set of novel self-timed latches are introduced and analyzed. These latches have no back-to-back connection as in conventional self-timed latch, and both inverting and noninerting outputs are evaluated simultaneously leading to thigher oepating frequencies. Power consumption of these latches ar ealso comparable to or less than that of conventional circuits. Novel type of cross-coupled inverter used in the proosed circuits implements static operatin without signal fighting with the main driver during signal transition. Proposed latches ar tested using a 0.6.mu.m triple-poly triple-metal n-well CMOS technology. The resutls indicates that proposed active-low sefl-timed latch (ALSTL) improves speed by 14-34% over conventional NAND SR latch, while in active-high self-timed latch (AHSTL) the improvements are 15-35% with less power as compared with corresponding NORA SR latch. These novel latches have been successfully implemented in a high-speed synchronous DRAM (SDRAM).

  • In wireless sensor network, since each sensor is equipped with a limited power, efficient use of the energy is important. One possible network management scheme is to cluster the sensors into several sets, so that the sensors in each of the sets can completely perform the monitoring task. Then the sensors in one set become active to perform the monitoring task and the rest of the sensors switch to a sleep state to save energy. Therefore, we rotate the roles of the active set among the sensors to maximize the network lifetime. In this paper, we suggest an optimal algorithm for the maximum lifetime coverage problem which maximizes the network lifetime. For comparison, we implemented both the heuristic proposed earlier and our algorithm, and executed computational experiments. Our algorithm outperformed the heuristic concerning the obtained network lifetimes, and it found the solutions in a reasonable amount of time.

  • In this paper, the Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is improved for searching differential characteristics of block cipher Midori-64, and 4 search strategies of differential path are given. By using strategy IV, set 1 S-box on the top of the distinguisher to be active, and set 3 S-boxes at the bottom to be active and the difference to be the same, then we obtain a 5-round differential characteristics. Based on the distinguisher, we attack 12-round Midori-64 with data and time complexities of 263 and 2103.83, respectively. To our best knowledge, these results are superior to current ones.

  • Medical imaging is one of the most powerful tools for gaining information about internal organs and tissues. It is a challenging task to develop sophisticated image analysis methods in order to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. The objective of this paper is to develop a Computer Aided Diagnostics (CAD) scheme for Brain Tumour detection from Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) using active contour models and to investigate with several approaches for improving CAD performances. The problem in clinical medicine is the automatic detection of brain Tumours with maximum accuracy and in less time. This work involves the following steps: i) Segmentation performed by Fuzzy Clustering with Level Set Method (FCMLSM) and performance is compared with snake models based on Balloon force and Gradient Vector Force (GVF), Distance Regularized Level Set Method (DRLSE). ii) Feature extraction done by Shape and Texture based features. iii) Brain Tumour detection performed by various tree classifiers. Based on investigation FCMLSM is well suited segmentation method and Random Forest is the most optimum classifier for this problem. This method gives accuracy of 97% and with minimum classification error. The time taken to detect Tumour is approximately 2 mins for an examination (30 slices).

  • In this paper, a novel control scheme compensating source voltage unbalance and harmonic currents for the combined system of series active and shunt passive power filter is proposed, where no low/high-pass filters are used in deriving the reference voltage for compensation. The phase angle and the reference voltages compensating for harmonic current and unbalanced voltage are derived from the positive sequence component of the unbalanced voltage set, which is simply obtained by using digital all-pass filters. In order to remove the phase delay in generating the reference voltage for compensation, the reference of 5th and 7th harmonic components is predicted one-sampling ahead. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified for 3[kVA] proto-type active power filter system.
