강수중 화학성분 분석자료의 해석 (Interpretation of Chemistry Analytical Data in Precipitation)

  • Precipitation samples were collected by the wet-only event sampling method at Seoul from September 1991 to April 1995. Concentrations of samples for the ion components($NO_3^-, NO_2^-, SO_4^{2-}, Cl^-, F^-, Na^+, K^+, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}$ and $NH_4^+$) were measured in addition to pH and electric conductivity. During the sampling period, 182 samples were collected, but only 163 samples were identified as valid. The pH, calculated from the volume-weighted $H^+$ concentration, was found to be 4.7, indicating a relatively intensive acidity compared with data from other regions of the world, where acid deposition was known to be a problem. Above all, the concentration of non-seasalt sulfate was $84 \mu eq/L$, which was the highest compared to that measured in other regions of the world. The major acidifying ions in the precipitation at Seoul were identified as sulfate and nitrate except for chloride, because the Cl/Na ratio in the precipitation was close to the ratio in seawater. If all of the non-seasalt sulfate and nitrate existed in the form of sulfuric and nitric acids, respectively, the average pH in the precipitation was calculated as 3.7, lower than the measured value. Consequently, the difference between the calculated and measured pH suggest that the acidity of precipitation was neutralized by alkaline species, not due to the low contribution of an anthropogenic air pollutants to the precipitation. The equivalent concentration ratio of sulfate to nitrate was 3.5, which indicated that the contributions of sulfuric and nitric acids to the precipitation acidity were 78% and 22%, respectively.

  • Nucleophilic substitution reaction of dansyl chloride with anilines in various solvents have been investigated. The Bronsted ${\beta}$ and Hammett ${\rho}_N$ values indicated that the bond formation is advanced more than the bond breaking at the transition state. Solvatochromic correlations also predicted the importance of bond formation at the TS, showing a greater contribution of polarity (${\pi}^{\ast}$) compared to hydrogen bond donor acidity (${\alpha}$). The effect of solvent on rate was found to violate the reactivity-selectivity principle.

현미 및 백미의 저장기간에 따른 지방산가 및 향기 패턴 분석 - 연구노트 - (Fat Acidity and Flavor Pattern Analysis of Brown Rice and Milled Rice according to Storage Period)

  • 본 연구에서는 현미 및 백미를 이용하여 시료의 저장기간에 따른 향기 패턴의 차이를 알아보고 지방산가와 비교하여 현미 및 쌀의 품질을 비교 분석해 보고자 하였다. 현미는 $30^{\circ}C$ 항온기에 넣고 30일간 저장하면서 5일 간격으로 각 시료를 채취하였고 백미는 저장기간의 차이를 두기 위해 생산 년도에 따라 시료를 수집하여 분석에 이용하였다. 현미와 백미 모두 저장기간이 길어질수록 지방산가가 크게 증가하여 품질에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 저장기간에 차이를 둔 현미 및 백미의 향기패턴 변화를 SMart Nose를 사용하여 분석한 결과 전반적으로 현미와 백미사이에 휘발성 향기성분의 감응도가 매우 유사하게 나타났다. 다양한 변수들의 판별력에 가장 차별성을 높게 표현하는 18종류(41~81 amu)의 질량을 선택하여 주성분 분석 결과 현미의 PCA1 및 PCA2 값 기여율은 각각 95.64%, 2.78%로 나타났고 백미의 PCA1 및 PCA2 값 기여율은 각각 81.18%, 13.85%로 나타났다. 백미보다는 현미의 저장기간에 따른 향기패턴의 차이가 분명하게 나타났으며 두 시료 모두 저장기간이 증가할수록 시료의 PCA1값이 음의 방향으로 가는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 저장기간이 증가할수록 쌀의 지방산가는 크게 증가하고 향기패턴이 변화하며 품질에 영향을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 쌀의 품질을 판별하는데 있어서 SMart Nose에 의해 측정하여 얻어진 자료를 활용한다면 기존의 방식들보다 더 용이하게 쌀의 품질 관리에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

청정 강우의 분석:1997-1998년 한라산 1100 고지와 제주시 강우의 특성 (Analysis of Rainwater in Clean Air Area : Characteristics of Rainwater at 1100 Site of Mt. Halla and Cheju City in 1997-1998)

  • The rainwater samples were collected from the 1100 Site of Mt. Halla and Cheju city during the period of March in 1997 to August in 1998, and the major soluble ions were analyzed. The confidence of analytical data was confirmed by using the comparison methods such as ino-balance, electric conductivity and acid fraction, all of which correlation coefficients were above 0.94. The ionic strengths lower than $10^{-4}$ M, the basis for the pure rainwater, were found in 47% and 38% at 1100 Site and Cheju city, respectively. The precipitations in Cheju city were more influenced by the oceanic effect than those in 1100 Site. The acidity contribution was mainly by $SO_4^{2-}$ and $NO_3^-$ in both areas, and the organic acids have contributed to the acidity with only 5~7%. The neutralization factors by $NH_3$ were about 46% at both 1100 site and Cheju city, whereas those by $CaCO_3$ were 11% and 15% at 1100 site and Cheju city respectively, and the free acidity were both about 35% in average. From the MSA analysis, it was found that the air in Cheju island has been influenced by the pollution from the other areas. The sources of the rainwater components in 1100 Site and Cheju city were also studied with a factor analyzing way, and the most probable factors were found to be anthropotgenic, oceanic, and soil-sourced. The results of multiple regression analysis have shown that $SO_4^{2-}$ was dissolved mostly in the form of $H_2SO_4, CaSO_4 and (NH_4)_2SO_4$, and $NO_3^-$ was in the form of $HNO_3, Ca(NO_3)_2 and NH_4NO_3$.

태안지역 강우의 산성도 중화 및 화학성 평가 (Neutralization of Acidity and Ionic Composition of Rainwater in Taean)

  • 최근 급속한 산업화가 진행되고 있는 중국의 편서풍 영향 하에 위치한 우리나라의 경우에는 장거리 이동에 따른 강우의 산성도 변화 및 예상되는 피해에 대한 대책 마련을 위하여 강우의 화학성에 대한 지속적인 모니터링이 필요하다. 태안지역 강우의 화학적 특성을 알아보기 위하여 2007년 4월부터 10월까지 19점의 빗물을 채수하여 pH 및 화학적 성분조성을 조사하였다. 강우량을 고려한 가중평균(volume-weighted mean) 이온농도 변화와 알카리성 물질들에 의한 빗물의 산성도 중화를 평가한 결과는 다음과 같다. 조사기간 중 평균 pH값은 4.9를 보였다. 빗물의 EC는 조사기간 평균 $32.9{\mu}S\;cm^{-1}$을 나타냈으며, 월별로는 9월에 $9.7{\mu}S\;cm^{-1}$로 조사기간 중 가장 낮은 값을 보였으며, 강우량이 가장 적었던 4월에 $91.4{\mu}S\;cm^{-1}$의 높은 수치를 나타내어 강우량 분포에 따른 EC의 계절적 특성을 보였다. 빗물의 조성에서 양이온 구성은 $Na^+$> $NH_4{^+}$ > $Ca^{2+}$ > $H^+$ > $Mg^{2+}$ > $K^+$의 순이었으며, $Na^+$$NH_4{^+}$가 전체 양이온 함량의 70% 이상을 차지하였다. 음이온은 $SO_4{^{2-}}$ > $NO_3{^-}$ > $Cl^{-}$ 순으로 $SO_4{^{2-}}$가 약 56%를 차지하였다. Sulfate의 조사기간 중 평균 함량은 $152.1{\mu}eq\;L^{-1}$ 이었다. 총 sulfate 함량 중 비해염 sulfate $(nss-SO_4)^-$ 함량은 평균 90%로 빗물 중에 함유된 sulfate의 대부분이 인위적인 발생원에서 기인되었다. 또한, 강우 산성도의 중화 정도를 알아보기 위하여 평가한 fractional acidity (pAi) 및 theoretical acidity ($pH_{the}$.) pH를 비교한 결과 1:1 직선의 오른쪽으로 분포되어 있음에 따라 본 조사기간 강우의 산성도가 빗물에 포함된 각종 알카리 물질들에 의해 중화되었음을 보였다.

  • Kinetic studies of nucleophilic substitution reactions of dansyl, bansyl, dabsyl chlorides with pyridines have been investigated at $0^{\circ}C$ in a range of methanol-acetonitrile binary solvent mixtures. The order of magnitude for reactivity of substrates with pyridines in the same reaction condition is dabsyl chloride>dansyl chloride> bansyl chloride. The value of $\rho$n(-2.29~ -4.66) and $\beta$(0.537~0.901) associated with a change substituent in the nucleophile are large and indicate a relatively advanced bond formation in the transition state. Solvatochromic correlations were predicted the increase of bond formation transition state according to the increasing MeCN contents, showing the greater contribution of polarity polarizability ($\pi$*) than hydro-gen bond donar acidity($\alpha$). We conclude that the reactions of dansyl, bansyl, dabsyl chlorides with pyridines proceed via associative Sn2 type reaction mechanism.

태안지역 강우의 이온 조성 (Characteristics of Ionic Composition of Rainwater in Taean)

  • 태안지역에서 영농기간중 강우의 화학적 특성을 알아보기 위하여 2005년 4월부터 10월까지 26점의 강우를 채수하여 pH 및 화학적 성분조성을 조사하였다. 강우량을 고려한 가중평균(volume-weighted mean)이온농도 변화와 알카리성 물질들에 의한 강우의 산성도 중화를 평가한 결과는 다음과 같다. 시료분석의 신뢰성을 검토한 전기전도도 수지 평가에서는 높은 상관을 나타내어 분석 이온들에 대한 신뢰가 인정되었다. 조사기간 중 태안지역에 내린 강우의 pH별 분포는 pH $4.5{\sim}5.0$ 범위가 가장 많았으며, 월별로는 6월이 다른 조사기간에 비해 산성도가 낮았다. 강우량과 강우의 EC 관계에서는 강우기가 비강우기인 6월 이전에 비해 EC가 낮은 계절적 특성을 보였다. 강우의 조성에서 양이온 구성은 $Na^+>H^+>Ca^{2+}>NH_4^+>K^+>Mg^{2+}$의 순이었으며, $Na^+,\;NH_4^+,\;Ca^{2+}$$H^+$가 전체 양이온 함량의 94% 이상을 차지하였다. 음이온은 $SO_4^{2-}>NO_3^->Cl^-$ 순으로 $SO_4^{2-}$$NO_3^-$가 약 80%를 차지하였다. 조사기간 중 강우산성도 중화는 6월이 다른 기간에 비해 높았음을 보였다. 총 sulfate 함량 중 nss-$SO_4^{2-}$ 함량은 78%로 강우 중에 함유된 sulfate의 대부분이 인위적인 발생원에서 기인되었으며, 월별로는 9월까지 점차 낮아지다. 10월에 다시 높아지는 계절적 변이를 보였다.

해안지역과 도시지역 강수의 화학적 성상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Comparison of Chemical Components in Rainwater at Coastal and Metropolitan areas)

  • In order to investigate the chemical components of acid precipitation at Kangwha near the Yellow Sea and Seoul in Korea, the precipitation samples were collected by wetonly precipitation sampler from February 1991 to January 1992, and pH, electric conductivity(E. C.) and major water-soluble ionic components were analyzed. Strong negative linear correlations were observed between the rainfall amount and the sum of major ionic components in $\mu eq/\ell$ at two sites. The sum of major ionic components also correlated negatively with rain intensity. The analytical results of precipitation samples at two sites were compared each other. Average values of volume-weighted pH were found to be 5.21 at Kangwha and 5.09 at Seoul. The cationic abundance($\mu eq/\ell$) in rainwater showed the general trend $NH_4^+ > Na^+ > Ca^{2+} > Mg^{2-+} > H^+ > K^+$ at Kangwah and $NH_4^+ > Ca^{2+} > Na^+ > H^+ > Mg^{2+} > K^+$ at Seoul. The anionic abundance showed the general trend $SO_4^{2-} > Cl^- > NO_3^-$ at Kangwha and $SO_4^{2-} > NO_3^- > Cl^-$ at Seoul. The concentrations of seasalt such as $Na^+ and Cl^-$ were higher at Kangwha than Seoul. The concentrations of $nss-SO_4^{2-}, nss-Cl^- and NO_3^-$ which are acid composition were higher at Seoul(96.3 $\mu eq/\ell$) than Kangwha(69.0 $\mu eq/\ell$). The contribution of seasalt to the composition of precipitation were higher at Kangwha(34.1%) than Seoul(15.7%). Ammonia and calcium species in rainwater at Kangwha and Seoul are interpreted to have 91% of neutralizing capacity of the original sulfuric and nitric acids. Provided that the precipitation acidity originates primarily from sulfate and nitrate, sulfate was found to contribute about 73-75% of the free precipitation acidity.

Optimization of bioethanol production from nigerian sugarcane juice using factorial design

  • The quest to reduce the level of overdependence on fossil fuel product and to provide all required information on proven existing alternatives for renewable energy has resulted into rapid growth of research globally to identify efficient alternative renewable energy sources and the process technologies that are sustainable and environmentally friendly. The present study is aimed at production and characterization of bioethanol produced from sugarcane juice using a $2^4$ factorial design investigating the effect of four parameters (reaction temperature, time, concentration of bacteria used and amount of substrate). The optimum bioethanol yield of 19.3% was achieved at a reaction temperature of $30^{\circ}C$, time of 72 hours, yeast concentration of 2 g and 300 g concentration of substrate (sugarcane juice). The result of statistical analysis of variance shows that the concentration of yeast had the highest effect of 7.325 and % contribution of 82.72% while the substrate concentration had the lowest effect and % contribution of -0.25 and 0.096% respectively. The bioethanol produced was then characterized for some fuel properties such as flash point, specific gravity, cloud point, pour point, sulphur content, acidity, density and kinematic viscosity. The results of bioethanol characterization conform to American society for testing and materials (ASTM) standard. Hence, sugarcane juice is a good and sustainable feedstock for bioethanol production in Nigeria owing relative abundance, cheap source of supply and available land for large scale production.

전주시에서 채수된 강수의 화학적 조성 (Chemical Composition of Rainwater in Chonju-city, Korea)

  • Precipitation sampls were collected in Chonju-city during October 1994 to September 1995 and were analysed for major ions (N $a^{+}$, $K^{+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, C $l^{[-10]}$ , NO/$_3$, S $O_4$$^{2-}$) and trace metals (Al, Cd, Ni, Pb, Sr, Zn) in addition to pH, in order to understand the chemical characteristics of acid rain and to estimate the origin of the determined ions. Most rain showed a neutral or alkaline character, and only 35% had a pH lower than 5.6. S $O_4$$^{2-}$ and N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ are identified as the primary contributors to precipitation acidity in this region. Neutralization of precipitation acidity occurs as a result of the dissolution of alkaline compounds containing $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$ and $K^{+}$. S $O_4$$^{2-}$ and N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ precipitation concentrations exhibit a seasonal pattern in which higher concentrations are observed during spring months and lower concentrations during summer months. However, the seasonal behavior of $H^{+}$ concentrations differs from this pattern, in that the highest concentrations occur during autumn months, owing to the different influence of neutralization processes. In all rain, S $O_4$$^{2-}$ concentration exceeded NO/$_3$$^{[-10]}$ concentration. The contribution of maritime sources to the total S $O_4$$^{2-}$ concentration was very low or negligible. For rain strongly affacted by yellow sand, $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$ and $K^{+}$ ions show a sharp increase in concentration, reflecting the increased amount of dust and soil suspended in atmosphere. At the same time, S $O_4$$^{2-}$ and N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ concentrations are at their highest levels while $H^{+}$ values are not comparably elevated, presumably beacause much of the acidity has been neutralized by alkaline substances. The seasonal variance of trace metal concentrations in rainwater is similar to that of major cations. The annual wet flux of acidic pollutants and trace metals wat calculated to be as follows: N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ ; 2.32 g/$m^2$, S $O_4$$^{2-}$, 5.34 g/$m^2$, Al; 6.30 mg/$m^2$, Cd; 0.62 mg/$m^2$, Ni; 4.08 mg/$m^2$, Pb: 9.76 mg/$m^2$, Sr; 5.94 mg/$m^2$, Zn; 111 mg/$m^2$./$m^2$.
