The electrical characteristics of fatty acid LB films were investigated to develop the gas sensor using Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films which have high ordered orientation and ordering structure. The deposition status of fatty acid LB films were verified by the measurements of UV absorbance. The conductivity of fatty acid LB films for horizontal direction at room temperature was about $10^8[S/cm]$,/TEX>, which was correspond to semiconductor material. The activation energy for fatty acid LB films with respect to variation of temperature was about l.O[eV]. The response characteristics for organic gas were confirmed by measuring the response time, recovery time, and reproducibility of the fatty acid LB films to each organic gas. Also, the penetration and adsorption behavior of gas molecule were confirmed through the organic gas response characteristics of fatty acid LB films with respect to temperature.

Extreme recovery of the thermal energy from the combustion of flue gas may bring about early gas condensation resulting in the increased formation of nitric acid vapor. The behavior of the nitric acid formed inside the stack and in the atmosphere was investigated through a computer-aided simulation in this study. Low temperatures led to high conversion rates of the nitrogen oxide to nitric acid, according to the Arrhenius relationship. Larger acid plumes could be formed with the cooled flue gas at $40^{\circ}C$ than the present exiting gas at $115^{\circ}C$. The acid vapor plume of 0.1 ppm extended to 25 m wide and 200 m high. The wind, which had a seasonal local average of 3 m/s, expanded the influencing area to 170 m along the ground level. Its tail stretched 50 m longer at $40^{\circ}C$ than at $115^{\circ}C$. The emission concentration of the acid vapor in the summer season was a little lower than in the winter. However, a warm atmosphere facilitated the Brownian motion of the discharged flue gas, finally leading to more vigorous dispersion.
Laboratory studies were carried out to find out the characteristics of humic acid treatment by activated carbon and ionized gas, In order to increase oxidation power of ionized gas for treating organic matter, we used granular activated carbon. By using $UV_{254}$, easy analysis method, we calculated humic acid concentration and $SCOD_{cr}$ concentration. For an initial concentration of humic acid, 10, 50 and 100ppm, the reaction rate constant by $UV_{254}$ was $8.98{\times}10^{-3}$/min, $5.62{\times}10^{-3}$/min and $4.8{\times}10^{-3}$/min respectively due to the same flow rate of ionized gas. When we added activated carbon to the ionized gas for humic acid treatment, the reaction rate constant increased in 4.13, 3.65 and 3.15 times. So, by using activated carbon in treating humic acid by ionized gas, oxidation power of organic matter by ionized gas was increased. The hydrophobic fraction constitutes 98% of organic matter for humic acid at the beginning. After the treatment using ionized gas for humic acid, the hydrophobic fraction decreased by 63~65% and the hydrophilic one increased by 35~37%. So, it was proved that the treatment increased the hydrophilic fraction in organic matter.
Responses of the rumen fungus, Neocallimastix frontalis RE1, to long chain fatty acid (LCFA) were evaluated by measuring gas production, filter paper (FP) cellulose digestion and polysaccharidase enzyme activities. LCFA (stearic acid, $C_{18:0}$; oleic acid, $C_{18:1}$; linoleic acid, $C_{18:2}$ and linolenic acid, $C_{18:3}$) were emulsitied by ultrasonication under anaerobic condition, and added to the medium. When N frontalis RE1 was grown in culture with stearic, oleic and linoleic acid, the cumulative gas production, gas pool size, FP cellulose digestion and enzymes activities significantly (p<0.05) increased at some incubation times(especially, exponential phases of fungal growth, 48~120 h of incubation) relative to that for control cultures. However, the addition of linolenic acid strongly inhibited all of the investigated parameters up to 120 h incubation, but not after 168 and 216 h of incubation. These results indicated that stearic, oleic and linoleic acids tended to have great stimulatory effects on fungal cellulolysis, whereas linolenic acid caused a significant (p<0.05) inhibitory effects on the cellulolysis by the rumen fungus. These results are the first report of the effect of LCFAs on the ruminal fungi. Further research is needed to identify the mode of action of LCFAs on fungal strains and to verify whether or not ruminal fungi have ability to hydrate unsaturated LCFAs to saturated FAs. There was high correlation between cumulative in vitro gas production and fungal growth (94.78%), FP cellulose degradation (96.34%), CMCase activity(90.86%) or xylanase activity (87.67%). Thus measuring of cumulative gas production could be a useful tool for evaluating fungal growth and/or enzyme production by ruminal fungi.
In order to detect gas phase strong acid on fabrics, a hexyl-substituted monoazo yellow dye, which was the modified form of a conventional pH-indicating dye, Methyl Yellow, was studied in view of acid-gas sensing properties and its fastness. The dye was printed on polypropylene non-wovens for protective coveralls and examined under various conditions of strong acid such as hydrochloric acid. The dye showed color change from yellow to red on exposure to gas phase hydrochloric acid as low concentration as 1~3 ppm very instantly. Considering reuse of the dye-printed non-wovens, the repeatability of color change was tested on the same sample for 50 repeats and 100 days. The acid-gas sensing function was maintained almost the same level of initial performance. The color fastness of the dye on polypropylene non-wovens was very good showing higher than ratings 4 except for 3~4 to rubbing under wet condition.
The effect of tannic acid on GAs and cyclic-AMP promoted amylase induction in barley aleurone layers was examined. Of a variety of adenine compounds, only cyclic-AMP and ADP showed significant activity, and these activities were promoted by addition of theophylline to the incubation medium. When aleurone layers of barley endosperm tissues were incubated with GAs in the presence of tannic acid, the amylase activity in the incubation medium was reduced. Cyclic-AMP induced amylase activity was also reduced by additiion of tannic acid. The cyclic-AMP response promoted was more sensitive to tannin inhibition than GAs response. The inhibitory effect of tannic acid shwoed reversibility by addition of higher concentration of GAs or cyclic-AMP. The tannic acid effect on GAs response was also recovered by addition of a higher concentration of cyclic-AMP. Experiment with polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis showed different isozyme patterns according to the additions in the incubation medium. Inhibitory effects of decursinol and coumarin was compared with that of tannic acid. They showed different zymogram patterns.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the excretion aspect of urinary t, t-MA and hippuric acid by measuring concentrations of urinary metabolites according to the use of gasoline vapor recovery system. Materials:In order to analyze urinary metabolites, samples from the 23 gas station workers ten gas stations in the Seoul and Gyeonggi Province area were collected once daily after work. In addition, a survey was conducted on work factors and lifestyle habits as factors affecting the concentration of urinary metabolites. Results: The average concentrations of t, t-MA and hippuric acid after work were $0.124{\pm}0.177mg/g$ creatinine and $0.557{\pm}0.251g/g$ creatinine among workers at gas stations where gasoline vapor recovery systems were installed. The average concentrations of t, t-MA and hippuric acid were $0.160{\pm}0.113mg/g$ creatinine and $0.682{\pm}0.619g/g$ creatinine among workes at gas stations where gasoline vapor recovery systems were not installed. Average concentrations were higher at gas stations where a gasoline vapor recovery system was not installed, but the differences were not statistically significant differences. Urinary t, t-MA and hippuric acid average concentrations of smokers and non-smokers were higher in the gas stations where gasoline a vapor recovery system was not installed. T, t-MA as a factor evaluation affecting the concentration of urinary metabolites was not statistically significant in all factors, while hippuric acid was statistically significant only for age(p=0.024). Conclusions: The average concentrations of urinary t, t-MA and hippuric acid were higher in gas stations where gasoline vapor recovery systems were not installed compared to gas stations where such a system was installed. There needs to be an assessment of biological monitoring according to refueling activity considering skin absorption of benzene and toluene and presence of gasoline vapor recovery system.
A method is developed for simultaneously determining ethanol and acetic acid in vinegars by quantitative packed-column gas chromatography. Vinegars were filtrated and directly chromatographed on a $2\;m{\times}2\;mm$ stainless steel column packed with Tenax-GC, 80/100. Ethanol, isopropy alcohol as an internal standard, and acetic acid were completely separated within 20 min of running time without any interfering peaks. The accuracy of packed column gas solid chromatography (PCGSC) was discussed compared to the analytical data by titration, high performance liquid chromatography and capillary column gas liquid chromatography (CCGLC).
The effect of cyclic-AMP on the induction of acid phosphatase activity in barley aleurone layers was examined. Tannic acid was used as a inhibitor. Decursinol and coumarin were also used as a comparison. Maxiumu promotion of the enzyme activity was obtained with 10-5M cyclic-AMP, but this promotion was lower than that of 10-5M GAS induced enzyme activity in incubation medium. The inhibition rate in the addition of tannic acid was shown 17% and 63% at a ratio to GAs (by weight) of 10 : 1, and 58% and 94% at a ratio of 100 : 1 treated with GAs, and cyclic-AMP, respectively. The most potentiation of 10-6M GAS effect was induced by the additiion of suboptimal concentration (10-6M) of cyclic-AMP. Additional GAs and cyclic-AMP were shown the recovery of the enzyme activity inhibited by tannic acid. The combination with cyclic-AMP and theophylline enhanced the enzyme activity, too. Any other nucleotides tested except cyclic-AMP didn't show the action. There were no differences in acid phosphatase isozyme patterns by polyacrylamide disc electrophoresis, in conjunction with the different additions but the size of bands showed great differences. Especially, the 3rd band and the 5th band group were remarkable.

Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films which have high ordered orientation and ordering structure are fabricated by LB method which deposit the ultra-thin films of organic materials at a molecular level. The electrical characteristics of stearic acid LB ultra-thin films for the horizontal direction were investigated to develop the gas sensor using LB ultra-thin films. The optimal deposition condition to deposit the LB ultra-thin films was obtained from $\pi-A$ isotherms and the deposition status of stearic acid LB ultra-thin films was verified by the measurement of deposition ratio, UV-absorbance, and electrical properties for LB ultra-thin films. The conductivity of stearic acid LB ultra-thin films for horizontal direction was about $10_{-8}[S/cm]$. The activation energy for LB ultra-thin films with respect to variation of temperature was about 1.0[eV], which was correspond to semiconductor material. The response characteristics for organic gas were confirmed by measuring the response time, recovery time, and reproducibility of the LB ultra-thin to each organic gas. Also, the penetration and adsorption behavior of gas molecule were confirmed through the organic gas response characteristics of LB ultra-thin films with respect to temperature.
