This study examines the use of ill-structured problem to help the 4th graders' problem solving and reasoning. It appears that children with good understanding of problem situation tend to accept the situation as itself rather than just as texts and produce various results with extraction of meaningful variables from situation. In addition, children with better understanding of problem situation show AR (algorithmic reasoning) and CR (creative reasoning) while children with poor understanding of problem situation show just AR (algorithmic reasoning) on their reasoning type.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between organizational culture(constructive and defensive culture) and emotional labor along with the social supports (supervisor support, colleague support). Using data obtained from a survey of 419 flight attendants of a major airline company in south Korea. The results are as follows: Organizational culture had a significant effect on emotional labor. At this point, colleague support mediated the relationship between constructive culture and emotional labor. In addition, supervisor support and colleague support had a mediating role between defensive culture and emotional labor. This result concludes that flight attendants positively accept the essential manuals and safety regulations in the special working condition with a unified team service. Furthermore, the results show that social supports are an important job resource for flight attendants helping them reach their work-related goals.

The knock in a spark ignition engine has been investigated to avoid the damage to the engine and unpleasant feeling caused by the pressure waves propagating across the combustion chamber. Knock intensity and knock onset angle were used as physical parameters to quantify the knock characteristics. The knock intensity is defined as a peak to peak value of the bank pass filtered combustion pressure signal and the knock onset angle is determined as the crank angle at which this signal exceeded the threshold level on each cycle. The cyclic variation of knock in four valve single cylinder engine was investigated with these two parameters. The location of autoignition was also examined by ion probes in the cylinder head gasket and squish region in the combustion chamber. For this measurement, a single cylinder engine was modified to accept the pressure transducer, 18 ion probes in the squish region and 8 ion probes in the specially designed PCB (Printed \ulcornerCircuit Board) cylinder head gasket.

Reliability acceptance sampling is concerned with whether to accept or reject a collection of items based upon the information obtained from life testing. Although various reliability acceptance sampling plans have been developed, little is known about their relatvie performances. This paper compares reliability acceptance sampling plans under Type II censoring, Hybrid censoring, and Time-Truncated Type II censoring assuming that the lifetimes of items in a lot follow an exponential distribution. The three plans are compared in terms of the power, the expected number of failures, and the expected time required to reach a decision. Computational experiments are conducted and the results are tabulated to provide guidelines for selecting an appropriate plan for a given situation.

This Article analyses the present situation of Shanghai Harbour and the Harbour's important role in the development of chinese economy. The article forecasts that the yearly tonnage turnover of the port will reach about 200 million tons in the year of 2000, possibly reach to 270--300 million tons by the end of 2020. it also forecasts that the container handling capacity of the port will be 2 million TEUS in 2000 and 6 million TEUS in 2020 respectively. In order to keep pace with the present situation of opening up and developing Pudong new area, this article suggests that the strategic target of the management and development of Shanghai Harbour should be : grasp the opportunity of opening up and developing Pudong, take the building of the deep-waterway port as the main task, which can accept the third or fourth generation international container ships, bring into full play the traditional advantages the Harbour has, unfold the businesses in other fields, participate in the marketing competition, speed up the development of the Harbour itself, make efferts to build Shanghai Harbour into a port-industry-trade-transportation integral modernized international deep-water key port.

By analyzing a nation-wide survey, this article examines research related norms and values of 684 scientists in 16 universities and 7 government supported research institutes. The survey shows that Korean scientific community tends to reject communality and disinterestedness while it accepts universalism as a norm. Organized skepticism is received a lukewarm support. In contrast, Korean scientific community tends to perceive the intellectual property and secrecy as legitimate and believe that scientists should consider the applicability of scientific research outcome and its social impacts when they choose research topics. When other variables are controlled for, the more basic research a scientist conducts the scientist is more likely to support communality and reject secrecy. The younger scientists are less likely to accept disinterestedness and the claim that the scientists should keep distance from social issues than the older. Scientists who work in the government-supported research institutes are more likely to view secrecy for more than 6 months as legitimate and reject the claim that science should not be affected by society than university scientists. The implications of these findings are discussed.

In recently designed diesel engines, the running conditions for piston pin bearings have become very severe due to combustion pressure and temperature increase. Moreover, the lead removal from the bush material has strongly reduced the capability of the anti friction material to accept asperity contacts. In this paper, before trying to find the pressure distributions on the oil film of piston pin bearings by the unsteady two dimensional thermohydrodynamic lubrication analysis in order to do the optimum design of the bearings of piston pin, it will be investigated the tendancy of piston pin rotating motion by calculating the friction coefficient at piston pin bearings, the oil film thickness and the frictional torques induced by hydrodynamic shear stress.

After Byeongdeok Lee(2008) argued against the so-called uncontested principle (UP), Song(2008) and Choi(2011) gave arguments against Lee(2008) and instead for UP. One important point to mention in their arguments is that they all accept that UP is justifiable in deduction. First, I show that there are some problems in their arguments. Next, I show that UP itself is not justifiable in deduction; it is only justifiable under some (restrictive) conditions.

In a previous paper I argued that the denial of the uncontested principle results in the denial of modus ponens. In his reply Byeong Deok Lee explicitly says that he does not deny the validity of modus ponens though he still does not accept the uncontested principle. In this paper I show that his view is untenable.

In this era all successful organizations, whether profit or nonprofit, accept marketing concept as management philosophy and try to maximize consumer satisfaction in order to achieve their own goals. Libraries are no exception. A consumer decision process model is borrowed to explain how library service users act through five stages. Armed with information about library users, library management can be more user-oriented and bring higher user satisfaction. Some measures for effective library management are suggested.
