  • This study investigates the flexural properties of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) reinforced basalt/epoxy composites under conditions with and without moisture absorption. The basalt/CNT/epoxy composites were fabricated using 1 wt% silanized MWCNTs and kept in seawater for over 4 months. The flexural properties of the moisture absorbed specimens were evaluated and compared with those of dry specimens. The flexural properties of basalt/CNT/epoxy composites were found to decrease with moisture absorption. The flexural strength and modulus of moisture absorbed specimens were 22% and 16% lower, respectively, than those of the dry specimen. Scanning electron microscope examination of the fracture surfaces revealed that the decreases of flexural properties in the moisture absorbed specimen were due to the weakening of interfacial bonding from swelling of the epoxy matrix.

  • As important factors determining human sensorial comfort, liquid moisture management and surface properties of heat resistant workwear materials were examined. To figure out liquid moisture management properties of the test materials, absorption capacity, rate of absorption, and evaporation properties were assessed. A modified GATS(Gravimetric Absorbency Testing System) was used to measure the liquid moisture accumulation associated with the wicking of liquid moisture from sweating skin. The GATS procedure measures demand wettability of materials to take up liquid in a direction perpendicular to the fabric surface and it was modified to incorporate a special test cell and cover to assess absorption behavior in the presence of evaporation. Fabric stiffness, smoothness, number and the length of surface fibers, and an estimate of the contact area between the skin and fabric surface were measured to characterize the mechanical and surface properties of the test materials. Also an estimate of the force with which a fabric clings to moist skin was made using as wet-cling index.

  • Heat treatment was performed to improve sound absorption properties for four tree species; Tulip tree, Korean Paulownia, Red pine and Costata birch, at temperature of $175^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$under vacuum condition. Sound absorption properties of two kinds of boards, which were in radial and tangential sections, were measured under a frequency range of 100 to 3200 Hz by the two microphone transfer function method. It was found that sound absorption properties were increased by heat treatment and the efficiency was higher at $200^{\circ}C$ than that at $175^{\circ}C$. Even Costata birch had a little effect on low temperature of $175^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$ heat treatment for sound absorption property, the efficiencies of sound absorption were 14, 19%, respectively. The efficiencies of sound absorption ranged 22 to 120% for heat-treated Tulip tree, Korean Paulownia.

  • Based on the sheath-core bicomponent composite fibers with modified polystyrene (PS) and the modified polypropylene (PP), composite fibers obtained were further cross-linked and sulphonated with chlorosulphonic acid to produce strong acidic cation ion exchange fibers. The structures of the fibers obtained were characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) etc. The optimal technology of the fibers obtained is discussed. The static absorption capacity of the sheath-core bicomponent composite cation exchange fibers for $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ was determined. The absorption kinetics and major factors affecting the absorption capacities of $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$ were studied, and its chemical stability and regenerating properties were probed. The results suggest that cation exchange fibers with better mechanical properties and higher exchange capability were obtained. Moreover, this type of ion exchange fiber has good absorption properties and working stability to various metal ions. Hence, they have higher practicability.

  • In this paper, we make an analysis of electromagnetic wave absorption properties of $TiO_2$ in W-band. Therefore, we fabricated some samples in different composition ratio of $TiO_2$ and CPE. And the material properties of samples are calculated from S-parameter of samples using $\ell-2\ell$ method. We analyze absorption properties and complex relative permittivitis of samples. As a result, it has verified that absorption properties of sample containing $TiO_2:CPE=70:30wt.%$ have been excelled in W-band.

  • In this paper, we investigated impurities content, absorption properties, and thermal properties showing by changing the content of carbon black which is semiconductive materials for underground power transmission. Specimens were made of sheet form with the three of existing resins and the nine of specimens for measurement. Impurities content of specimens and absorption properties were measured by ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometer) and Karl Fisher. And high temperature, heat degradation initiation temperature, and heat weight loss were measured by TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis). The dimension of measurement temperature was 0$[^{\circ}]$ to 800$[^{\circ}]$, and rising temperature was 10$[^{\circ}/min]$. Impurities content was highly measured according to increasing the content of carbon black from this experimental result also absorption amount was increased according to these properties. Specially, impurities content values of the A1 and A2 of existing resins were measured more than 4000[ppm]. Heat degradation initiation temperature from the TGA results was decreased according to increasing the content of carbon black. All over, heat stabilities were EEA>EBA>pEVA. That is, heat stabilities of EVA containing the weak VA(vinyl acetate) against heat was measured the lowest.

  • This study has been carried out with the eight HPHT processed NOUV diamonds - two yellow, two yellowish green, two green and two orangy yellow color stones. The gemological properties of these diamonds included a highly saturated body color, graphitized fractures around the girdles, tension cracks around crystalline inclusions, long-wave UV with medium yellowish green to a very strong yellowish green luminescence, and short-wave UV with faint yellowish green to a strong yellowish green luminescence. Distinctive features of spectroscopic properties include absorption peaks at 415 nm and 503 nm a strong absorption band at $460{\sim}480nm$ and a H2 center at 986nm. Infrared spectra showed an absorption peak at $1344cm^{-1}$ (C center), which is the characteristics related to single substitutional nitrogen.

  • Data on basic properties are needed due to the increased interest of insulation materials, but In Korea, there are fewer data related to the basic properties of insulation. so the absorption rate was measured every seven days by selecting some of the insulation among insulation materials to provide basic data on absorption rates among basic properties. Measured over 43 days, both absorption and weight showed the highest PF levels, other insulation is judged to have almost reached the maximum absorption rate. PF is still an increasing trend and requires constant observation.

  • A range of methine dyes has been synthesized by condensation of highly electronegative active methylene compound dicyanomethylenecyclopentane derived from cyclopentanone with the formyl group of substituted benzaldehydes. The electronic absorption spectroscopic properties of the dyes were investigated. In general, substituents on the aromatic aldehyde moiety have a significant effect on the visible absorption maxima of the dyes; increasing the solvent polarity also showed a pronounced effect on the absorption maxima.

  • Dielectric strength of insulators made of epoxy composites rapidly decreases due to ageing to interfaces between the matric resin and filler particles. The adhesion variation of interfaces caused by moisture absorption also alters electrical properties that are the basic characteristics of insulators, particularly, in outdoor use. In this paper, electrical properties of epox/SiO$_2$composites were investigated at boiling absorption condition to observe the influences of moisture. In order to analyze the basic physical properties of samples, scanning electron microscopy and DC, AC and impulse voltage dielectric strength were measured. Also, the breakdown time of samples was measured under AC 6[kV] applied voltage, and the variation of lifetime was verified by using Weibull distribution function.
