Manufacturing and Properties of Bi-Sn Impregnated Wood Composites of Juglans nigra (북미산 흑호두나무 Bi-Sn 용융합금 복합체의 제조와 특성)

  • The metalized wood composites with natural grain of imported Juglans nigra, which was impregnated with low melting alloy were manufactured and evaluated in this study. And the proper manufacturing conditions was also investigated in this study. The low melting alloy with bismuth (Bi) and tin (Sn) which are harmless to humans, was applied to this new composites. The composites showed not only no defects of discoloration, delamination, swelling, and cracking, because of high dimensional stability and low thickness swelling, but also much improved performance such as high bending strength, high hardness, abrasion resistance, high thermal conductivity as floor materials. This study also suggested the proper impregnating condition, such as 10 minutes of the preliminary vacuum time, $186^{\circ}C$ of the heating temperature and 10 minutes of the maintaining pressure time at the pressure of $30kgf/cm^2$. This metalized wood composites showed 7 times higher density than control, great increase in bending strength from $131.8N/mm^2$ to $192.3N/mm^2$, and great increase in hardness from $18.2N/mm^2$ to $90.4N/mm^2$. The composites demonstrated not only high emissivity of 91%, high shilding effectiveness of 92.59∼99.99%, high fire resistance but also great decrease in abrasion depth, water absorption and thickness swelling.

  • Recently, exposed concrete by machinery trowel is generally used in industrial floor such as warehouse. Also, concrete using only the cement has been mainly used except mineral admixture in order to secure surface abrasion resistance. However, in hot weather construction, it is causing a serious problem such as workability inhibition of trowel using only ordinary portland cement. Due to this, it was investigated the effect of application of fly-ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag on properties and abrasion resistance of concrete for industrial floor in this study. The result of this study, it was confirmed that fly-ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag can be used in concrete for industrial floor without affecting significantly the properties of concrete.

A STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF PERMA CURE SYSTEM ON THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF ACRYLIC RESIN SURFACES (광중합(光重合) 활택 경화제가 아크릴 레진 표면에 미치는 물리적 성질에 관한 연구)

  • Acrylic resin has some disadvantages in its physical properties such as a low surface hardness, being easily abraded as well as low degree of impact resistance. To overcome these disavantages, Perma Cure System was introduced in 1981, in which photo polymerizing monomers coated on acrylic resin surface were polymerized. In this study, to observe the effect of Perma Cure System on physical properties of treated surface of different types of acrylic resin, abrasion resistance, surface hardness and surface roughness of 4 different types of resin (Premium, Ortho-jet acrylic, Quick resin, Thermo jel) were tested before and after coating treatment. The conclusions arised from this study are as follows; 1. In all types of resin, the abrasion resistance of coated specimen was higher than that of uncoated specimen, and there was difference in amount of abrasion among the types of coated resin. 2. In all types of resin, the surface hardness of coated specimen was higher than that of uncoated specimen, and there was no difference in surface hardness among the types of coated resin. 3. In all types of resin, surface roughness of coated specimen was lower than that of uncoated specimen, and was different according to the degree of surface roughness before coating treatment in same sort of resin specimen.

Functionalized Emulsion Styrene-Butadiene Rubber Containing Diethylaminoethyl Methacrylate for Silica Filled Compounds

  • In this study, diethylaminoethyl methacrylate-styrene-butadiene terpolymer (DEAEMA-SBR), in which diethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DEAEMA) was introduced to the SBR molecule as a third monomer, was synthesized by cold emulsion polymerization. It is expected that amine group introduced to a rubber molecule would improve dispersion of silica by the formation of hydrogen bond (or ionic coupling) between the amine group and silanol groups of silica surface. The chemical structure of DEAEMA-SBR was analyzed using proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Then, various properties of DEAEMA-SBR/silica composite such as crosslink density, bound rubber content, abrasion resistance, and mechanical properties were evaluated. As a result, bound rubber content and crosslink density of DEAEMA-SBR/silica compound were higher than those of the SBR 1721 composite. Abrasion resistance and moduli at 300% elongation of the DEAEMA-SBR/silica composite were better than those of SBR 1721 composite due to the high bound rubber content and crosslink density. These results are attributed to high affinity between DEAEMA-SBR and silica. The proposed study suggests that DEAEMA-SBR can help to improve mechanical properties and abrasion resistance of the tire tread part.

  • Conventional polishing of stone panel edges has been done by hand. While this has changed somewhat with the advent of automatic machines, it is still very much a hand finishing technology. For the development of edge shape milling tool, the primary test on characteristics of edge shape milling tool was carried out. This paper presents the results of tests focused upon the milling capability that was varied by the variables of operation parameters. Author tried to confirm the effect of six operation parameters of equipment such as rotation speed, advance speed, applied load, water flow rate and rotational direction. The result from test was described in term of shape milling capability that was defined as cutting volume of rock by unit weight of tool wear. The variance of the results could indicate the optimum level of each operating parameters. The test was also carried out to determine the abrasion resistance varied according to the abrasive flow rate. The abrasion resistance was increased with the abrasive flow rate, but over some rate it was not changed.

  • The protection of steel surfaces against wear is a practical problem far agricultural, mining and manufacturing industries. Commercial processes are available in which a hard tungsten carbides rich steel layer is formed on the surface of carbon steel digging, drilling and gouging tools to improve their wear resistance. The nature of the interaction of the tungsten carbide with the steel matrix is important in determining the wear and corrosion properties of the resulting metal matrix composites(MMC). In the study, WC-12%Co/low carbon steel MMC overlays have been prepared by gas metal arc welding(GMAW) according to size of WC-12%Co grits. The characteristics wear resistance and wear mechanism have been investigated in relation to the experiment conditions each other. After MMC overlay had been tested by rubber wheel abrasion test, it was known that MMC overlay has a excellent wear resistance. Fe$_{6}$W$_{6}$C carbides of matrix in overlays were not important to restrain rubber wheal abrasion wear. Wear loss is proportioned to a applied load according to time. On the case of low load, wear occurred severely in the matrix of overlay more than WC-12%Co grit, on the contrary it is reverse on the case of high load because of fracture of WC-12%Co grits.its.

Changes in Waterproofness and Breathability after Repeated Laundering and Durability of Electrospun Nanofiber Web Laminates (전기방사한 나노섬유 웹 라미네이트 소재의 반복 세탁에 따른 투습방수 성능 변화 및 내구성)

  • To develop a waterproof breathable material, we fabricated three kinds of nanofiber web laminates using a massproduced electrospun nanofiber web with different substrates and layer structures. The waterproofness and breathability of nanofiber web laminates were evaluated after repeated launderings and compared with those of conventional waterproof breathable fabrics currently in use, including densely woven fabric, microporous membrane laminated fabric, and coated fabric. The durability of nanofiber web laminates, including adhesion strength, abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and tearing strength, was also assessed and compared with those of conventional waterproof breathable fabrics. The water vapor transmission of nanofiber web laminates increased slightly after repeated launderings, whereas the air permeability somewhat decreased after launderings but still maintained an acceptable level of air permeability. Laundering reduced the resistance to water penetration of nanofiber web laminates, which implies that laminating techniques or substrate materials that could support waterproofness of the laminated structure should be explored. The adhesion strength, abrasion resistance, tensile strength, and tearing strength of nanofiber web laminates were in a range comparable to conventional waterproof breathable materials.

A Physical Characteristics and Synthesis of Top Coat Polymeric Dispersion Film by Complex Polyol (복합폴리올 이용한 Top coat용 수분산 고분자 필름의 합성 및 물리적 특성)

  • Polyurethane resin used to leather coat was synthesized by the addition reaction of PPG and PTMG with different mole ratios. Physical characteristics of the synthesized polyurethane resin were measured by the SEM, FT-IR and the UTM. Increasing mole ratio of PTMG having four methylene groups caused the increase of abrasion resistance and tensile strength. The elongation was decreased. As we measured the solvent(toluene) resistance of poly urethane resin, it was found the there were no effect of PTMG mole ratios on the phyhsical properties of the resin. The viscosity was increased by ratio of PTMG mole ratio.

Improvement of Performance of Anti-reflective Coating Film Using Methyltrimethoxysilane (Methyltrimethoxysilane을 이용한 반사방지 코팅막의 성능 향상)

  • Traditional anti-reflective (AR) coating films prepared using tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as a precursor absorbs water easily in addition to having a weak abrasion resistance. To improve the transmittance, hydrophobicity and abrasion resistance of AR coating film, various AR coating films were prepared using methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) as a precursor in addition to introducing a fluoroalkylsilane, acid catalyst, base catalyst and acid-base two step catalyst. The prepared AR coating films were then characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, contact angle analyzer, atomic force microscope (AFM), pencil scratch hardness test and cross-cut test. As a result, the transmittance of bare glass was 90.5%, while that of AR coating glass increased to 94.8% at curing temperature of $300^{\circ}C$. When the fluoroalkylsilane was added, the water contact angle of AR coating film increased from $96.3^{\circ}$ to $108^{\circ}$, indicating that the hydrophobicity of the film was greatly improved. The abrasion resistance of AR coating film was also improved by the acid catalyst, whereas the transmittance increased by the base catalyst. In the case of AR coating film prepared using an acid-base two step catalyzed reaction, both the transmittance and abrasion resistance of the film was synergistically enhanced as compared with those of AR coating films prepared without introduction of a catalyst.

The Effects of Cure System on Vulcanization Reaction Constant and Physical Properties of Rubber Compounds (가황시스템 변화가 배합고무의 가황반응속도 및 물리적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, the reaction rate constant, activation energy, total crosslinking density, elastic constant, cure properties ($t_5,\;t_{90}$), modulus, and abrasion resistance of rubber compounds were investigated as a function of cure temperatures, cure systems and reinforcing filler loadings. Reaction rate constants showed strong dependence on thc carbon black loading, cure temperature and cure system, and increased sharply with increasing the reaction temperatures. The lowest activation energy was obtained in the efficient cure (EC) system which corresponds to the high level of sulfur to accelerator ratio, and the activation energy was decreased with decreasing the carbon black loadings. The change of carbon black loadings directly affects the modulus and abrasion resistance, but the change of cure system showed various effects on the rubber compounds. Increased carbon black loadings showed the high modulus, improved abrasion resistance and short scorch time but decrease in crosslinking density and elastic constant. Higher crosslinking density and elastic constant were shown in the EC cure system regardless of carbon black loadings, but scorch timc ($t_5$) was not affected by the change of the ratio of sulfur to accelerator. Rapid optimum cure time ($t_{90}$) were showen in the EC cure system. Also, the equivalent cure curve coefficient of rubber compound was 0.96 for conventional cure (CC) system, and 0.94 for semi-efficient cure (SEC) and EC system regardless carbon black loadings. As regarding the abrasion resistance, wear volume showed the logarithmic increase for the loaded weight.
