Effect of Traditional Acupuncture on Abomasal Motility in Holstein Cow (젖소에서 일반침술이 제 4위 운동성에 미치는 영향)

  • Abomasal motility was observed by needling to acupoints for 20 min. The acupoints used were guan yuan yurt da chang yurt dei yup pi yurt and hou hoi. The acupoint which showed the increase of the largest wave type was pi yu and the increase of wave type was observed 20 minutes after needling in hou hoi and dei yu acupoint. But there was no effect on abomasal motility after needling to guan yuan yu and da chang yu. On the other hands change in amplitude of the abomasal contraction after needling to these acupoints was not abserved. These results indicate that stimulation to pi yu acupoint would be the most useful to increase the abomasal motility.

Effects of Electroacupuncture on Motility of the Rumen and Abomasum of Goats (전침자극(電針刺戟)이 염소의 제일(第一) 및 사위운동(四胃運動)에 미치는 영향)

  • Ruminal and abomasal motility after electroacupuncture was investigated in normal goats and in goats with induced hypocalcaemia. Electroacupuncture was performed with a current of 1 volt and 3Hz at the acupoints of Tien Ping(positive) and Pai Hui(negative) for 30 minutes. The adequate range of electroacupuncture stimulation for goats was 1 to 2 volt and 2 to 3 Hz. After electroacupuncture stimulation in normal goats, rates of rumen and abomasal contractions were not changed or were slightly increased, but amplitudes of rumen and abomasal motility markedly increased. The effects of electroacupuncture stimulation lasted from about 10 minutes to 30 minutes after the end of electroacupuncture. The amplitudes of rumen motility were increased by the administration of bethanechol chlorids in goats. Ruminal contractions were not influenced by electroacupuncture following atropine sulphate. The rates of rumen and abomasal movements were not changed, but its amplitudes were reduced by inducing hypocalcaemia in goats. Motilily of the rumen and abomasum was not accelerated by electroacupuncture in goats with induced hypocalcaemia.

Effects of Xylazine on the Motility of Abomasum and Colon in Cattle (소의 제4위 및 결장 운동성에 xylazine이 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of xylazine on the motility of abomasum and proximal colon in cattle. Bipolar electrodes were implanted in the subserosa of the abomasum and colon. Electromyogram of the motility was recorded by polygraph after intramuscular administration of xylazine at the doses of 0.1 and 0.2 mg/kg. The mtility of abomasum was completely inhibited at 5~11 minutes after xylazine administration. However, that of the abomasum was reappeared at 15 minutes and greatly increased to supranormal motility at 41~51 minutes, then recovered to normal activity at 70~123 minutes. Meanwhile, the motility of proximal colon was completely inhibited at 3~10 minutes and reappeared at 60~150 minutes after xylazine administration, then recovered gradually to normal pattern at 240 minutes. Our data indicate that xylazine (0.1~0.2 mg/kg) affect on the abomasal motility in a biphasic manner, initial inhibition and following activation, but on the colon motility in a monophasic inhibition.
