  • Among the employer-supported subscribers to the National Health Insurance Service, 6,797 people with mild disabilities with western ages of 20 and up and who received health checkups were investigated. Of these 6,797 people, 3,186 and 3,611 received health checkups in 2009 and 2013, respectively. Those people who were diagnosed with physical handicaps, brain lesions, visual impairment, hearing impairment, intellectual disabilities, mental disorders, kidney disorders or other disorders according to the classification standard for people with disabilities were classified into disability groups of the 3rd through 6th degrees. The purpose of this study was to examine the dangerous influence of obesity of people with mild disabilities on their hyperglycemia, hypertension and high cholesterol. The items measured in this study were abdominal obesity, body mass index, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. To look for connections between the obesity level and at-risk groups for each disease, cross tabulation and multinomial logistic regression analyses were utilized. Higher levels of abdominal obesity and BMI were found among those who were male, were younger and had higher incomes. The risks of abdominal obesity and BMI were higher in the abnormal groups for each disease. In 2009, the obesity group whose BMI was higher had a 1.51-fold higher risk of hypertension than the normal group. The abdominal obesity group had a 1.59-fold higher risk of high cholesterol, a 1.26-fold higher risk of hypertension and a 1.54-fold higher risk of hyperglycemia than the normal group. In 2013, the obesity group whose BMI was higher had a 1.72-fold higher risk of high cholesterol and a 1.43-fold higher risk of hypertension than the normal group. Those with abdominal obesity had a 1.59-fold higher risk of hyperglycemia than the normal subjects. As the risk of obesity was higher in those with disabilities than in those without disabilities, the former should be encouraged to undergo health checkups on a regular basis, and the coverage of the health checkups should be extended to keep track of their illness. In addition, appropriate education and concern are both required to prevent obesity.

  • This study was performed to investigate the serum lipid levels and fatty acid composition in middle-aged men and the influence of cardiovscular risk factors on them. Data for dietary intake, anthropometry , blood pressure, and general environmental factors were obtained and their relationship to serum lipid levels and fatty acid composition were analyzed in 303 healthy male subjects with a mean age of 43.8$\pm$6.4 years from June 1 to 22 , 1995. The prevalence of obesity was 26.7% by BMI and 11.2% by WHR criteria . The percentage of hypertensive subjects were 13.5% and 22.4% by systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respectively. Retinol, calcium , and roboflavin intakes were lower than the RDA for Koreans. The ratio of carbohydrate intake to total calories of the subjects was 70%. Ratios of P/M and n-6/n-3 were 1.02/1.05/1.00 and 11.1/1, respectively. The percentage of subjects who had serum TG, TC, LDL-C leves beyond the normal range were 19.5% , 13.5% and 8.6% respectively. Palmitic comprised 26.4% of serum total fatty acids, linoleic acid 19.4% and oleic acid 16.4. The waist circumference and ration of carbohydrate intake were related positively to TG level. Serum cholesterol level had positive relations with waist circumference, DBP, sugar intake, and income. There were positive relationships between SFA and bone fishes and vegetable oil intakes, MUFA and DBP while a negative a negative relationship was observed between PUFA and animal fat intake. Serum n-6 fatty acid was related negatively to carbohydrate intake and hot taste preference. N-3 fatty acid was related positively to fish intake and negatively to egg intake. These results suggest that to maintain adequate serum lipid levels and fatty acid composition, sugar, animal fat, and carbohydrate intakes have to be reduced, while consumption of vegetable oil and fish must be increased. It is also essential to control abdominal fat accumulation and blood pressure.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of regular Nordic walking exercise on the physical indicators and subjective happiness of middle-aged rural residents. Methods: A pretest and posttest design with a non-equivalent control group was conducted. The participants of experimental and control group were each 21 subjects from 40 to 64 years old. The Nordic walking exercise program consisted of 24 sessions which were focused on group exercise, and was conducted three times a week for eight weeks. Results: The experimental group showed significant decreases in body mass index (p=.042), body fat (p<.001), and abdominal fat (p=.026). The experimental group showed significant increases in muscle mass of right lower limb (p=.009) and left lower limb (p=.016) but was not statistically significant in right, left upper limbs and body. On the other hand, the control group showed significant decreases in muscle mass of right upper limb (p=.034), left upper limb (p=.038), and body (p=.034). There were no significant differences in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and subjective happiness between the experimental and the control group. Conclusion: The Nordic walking exercise should be actively encouraged to improve health of the middle-aged in rural area.

  • Epidemiological studies have indicated that a relationship between overweight and cardiovascular disease exists. To assess the relationship of unfavorable changes in serum lipid concentrations, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), blood sugar and blood pressure to anthropometric variables, nutrient intakes and dietary behavior,64 obese children were chosen as subjects and 24-hour dietary intake, dietary behavior as well as blood pressure, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), three kinds of cholesterol concentrations were measured in November 1976. More than half(57.8%) of the children had serum cholesterol concentrations over 175mg/d1, and 26.6% of them had over 200mg/d1 and this group could be classified as a high risk group. Abdominal obesity as measured with waist circumference and waist hip ratio was negatively co..elated to high density lipop개tein(HDL) cholesterol. Dietary behavior rather than nutrient intakes appeared to have associations with unfavorable lipid profiles. Total dietary behavior scores and fish and bean product consumption had strong correlations with potentially atherogenic lipoprotein concentrations. This study suggests that fir the early prevention of cardiovascular disease, waist hip ratio together with obese rate should be included in selective programs to identify risk group of children in Korea. furthermore, interventions in cardiovascular disease risk groups in obese children should emphasize maintenance of ideal body weight through reducing body fat and adopting desirable dietary behaviors such as increasing intake of fish or bean products. • This study was done to find out the correlation between manual palpitation and mechanical measurement and the possibility to produce the data using chest and abdominal Front Point(募穴). Followings are the results from the present study. 1. The maximal pressure felt by the patient was 10kgf/$cm^2$. 2. The maximal deformation felt by the patient was in the range of 6cm. 3. The modulus (index obtained by the division of maximal pressure and maximal deformation) was highly correlated with manual palpitation. 4. It was useful to classify two front points in the abdomen and chest when modulus is concerned. 5. When the index of elastic modulus are big and small enough, it is said excessiveness and deficiency(虛實), respectively. Overall, this study was able to find the possibility to quantify the traditional state of excessiveness and deficiency in the form of objected data.

  • Pelvic floor muscles positively affect not only urinary incontinence but also lumbar stabilization by generating intra-abdominal pressure through interaction with muscles around the trunk. Especially, contracting pelvic floor muscles consistently and gently at low intensity is one of the most effective methods to separate and contract transverse abdominis which plays an important role in lumbar stabilization. The purpose of this study was to reexamine the importance of pelvic floor muscles which had not been used much in the treatment of lumbago and to introduce pelvic floor muscle exercises that can be utilized in the treatment of lumbago by examining literature on the relationship between pelvic floor muscles and lumbar stabilization. It is expected that this study will help apply lumbar stabilization exercise to patients with lumbago more variously and effectively.

  • Since the first report of an operation for prolapsed intervertebral disk by Mixter and Barr[1934], many thousands of operations have been successfully performed without incident. Linton and White in 1945 reported the vascular complication, but perforation of large vessels is rare complication of operation for prolapsed disk. A medical student, aged 22 years, was performed to a disk operation [L4-5, Rt. on May 1977.] From postoperative 10th day, palpitation, generalized edema and substernal pain were noted, and 2 months later, wide pulse pressure [70-80 mmHg], continuous bruit and thrill on the Rt. low abdomen were followed. Aortography revealed arteriovenous fistula between just proximal to abdominal aortic bifurcation and inferior vena cava. So, fistulectomy [Resection of proximal 2 cm of C.I.A., Rt, including fistula opening and end to end anastomosis] was performed on July, 77. During follow up study, remained fistula between Rt. internal lilac artery and lilac vein was found 2 months later. Re-operation [Double ligation of the Rt. internal lilac artery] was don on January 1978. Postop. results were excellent, except impossible to ejaculation.

  • Tracheoesophageal fistula[TEF] is a rare but life-threatening lesion that may occur from ventilation with a cuffed tube. It occurs most frequently when an inlying esophageal tube is also being used-usually for feeding purposes. The mechanism of injury appears to be pressure experted on the tracheal wall by the cuff, which then compresses the "party wall" of the trachea and esophagus against the foreign body that lies in the esophagus. The patient was 32 years old female who had been receiving a treatment of respiratory failure induced by postoperative sepsis with assist ventilator and nasogastric tubal feeding. Sudden attack of abdominal gas distention and massive drainage of gas through N-G tube were developed during assist ventilation in that patient, so we diagnosed as tracheal stenosis with a tracheoesophageal fistula induced by prolonged endotracheal intubation We performed tracheal reconstruction and primary closure of perforated esophagus after weaning ventilator. The postoperative course was uneventiful.eventiful.

  • This study demonstrated that cryopreserved semen from dead fish can be used for seedling production. Yellow croakers, Larimichthys polyactis, were killed and stored at temperatures of $20^{\circ}C$ or $0^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours. At 2 hour intervals, semen from these fish was collected using abdominal pressure and evaluated for spermatozoa motility and semen cryopreservation. Semen collected after 6 hours from dead fish stored at $0^{\circ}C$ could be cryopreserved and attained fertilization and hatching rates of $15.0{\pm}1.2%$ and $14.8{\pm}1.6%$, respectively. This study suggests that germ cells such as the semen of dead fish can be cryopreserved and utilized in the restoration of a species.
