It is positively necessary to study on the stiffness of a 13degree-type impact tester in order to improve the fracture prediction of impact testing in wheels using FE(finite-element) analysis. The 13degree-type impact tester consists of an impact striker, a wheel fixer, a steel plate, and four cylindrical rubbers. Important parts of the tester are the steel plate and four cylindrical rubbers which play a role of absorbing impact energy during impact testing. Because of these buffers, the RF(reaction force) variation of the lower part in the 13degree-type impact tester showed the tendency like a damped harmony oscillation during impact testing. In order to investigate the stiffness of a 13degree-type impact tester, this work measured each stiffness of a steel plate and cylindrical rubbers. The stiffness of a cylindrical rubber was measured using a compressive tester. On the other hand, the stiffness of a steel plate was predicted by simulating experimental method using FE analysis.
The aim of this study is to suggest the introduction of family impact analysis. Family impact analysis is needed to evaluate family policies from the family perspective. This study deals with the definition of family impact analysis and the cases of other impact analysis, such as gender impact assessment and employment impact analysis. In addition, this study suggests the introduction of family impact analysis with evaluation methods, evaluation indicators, and evaluation processes. Evaluation methods are divided into self-assessment and specific-assessment. Evaluation indicators need to be developed based on the family strength. This research also suggests the securing of family time as a basic assessment indicator. The evaluation processes consist of object selection, assessment, evaluation report, and policy improvement. Finally, this study suggests that family impact analysis is a strong strategy for promoting family-friendly policies. In order to introduce family impact analysis in a more systematic manner, further studies on the standards of assessment, formation of research institutions, and the legislative system will be necessary.
A hat section was designed and developed for maximum impact energy absorption and/or transmission under low velocity impact. Towards this, different hat sections, having material properties of thermoplastic, were modeled and investigated numerically using finite element analysis (FEA) in the range of 20-50 J impact energy. In the study it was experienced that the design configuration of hat section with curvilinear profile (HSCP) was excellent in energy attenuation capacity and for even distribution of maximum impact force around and along the hat section under low velocity impact loading. To validate the numerical findings, polypropylene copolymer (Co-PP) HSCP and low density polyethylene (LDPE) HSCP were developed and evaluated experimentally in the said impact energy range. A correlation was established between FEA and experimental test results, thereby, validating a numerical model to predict results for other thermoplastic materials under given range of impact energy. The LDPE HSCP exhibited better performance as compared to Co-PP HSCP in the said range of impact energy. The findings of this study will enable the engineers and technologists to design and develop low velocity impact resistance devices for various applications including devices to protect bone joints.

Hydraulic breaker of excavator has been used for the destruction and disassembling of buildings, crashing road pavement, breaking rocks at quaky and etc. The performance of breakers is evaluated their own destructive force and the number of impact by input hydraulic flow rate and pressure on the operating conditions. Because hydraulic breakers generate high impact energy, the accurate measurement of the impact force has been facing a technical challenge. In this study, the hydraulic pressure transducer system was developed based on the characteristics of pressure variation in closed vessel fur testing the impact energy. The hydraulic pressure transducer system is consisted with a hydraulic cylinder, main base, pressure & temperature sensors, LVDT, data acquisition system and etc. The developed hydraulic pressure transducer system was applied to measure the impact energy for hydraulic breaker. The measured impact force was 438.8 kgf.m within the designed impact force bounds. The developed hydraulic pressure transducer system as a simple tester could be applied to measure the impact force and the number of impact.

The armor composite material targets such as aramid FRMLs with different type and ply number of face material and different type of back-up material, were studied to determine ballistic impact resistance and dynamic failure behavior during ballistic impact. Ballistic impact resistance is determined by $\textrm{V}_{50}$ ballistic limit, a statical velocity with 50% probability for complete penetration, test method. Also dynamic failure behaviors are respectfully observed that result from $\textrm{V}_{50}$ tests. $\textrm{V}_{50}$ tests with $0^{\circ}$ obliquity at room temperature were conducted with projectiles that were able to achieve near or complete penetration during high velocity impact tests. As a result, ballistic impact resistance of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy(2 ply) is better than that of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy(1 ply), but Titanium alloy showed the similar ballistic impact resistance. In the face material, ballistic impact resistance of titanium alloy is better than that of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy. In the back-up material, ballistic impact resistance of T750 type aramid fiber is better than that of CT709 type aramid fiber.

A drop weight type impact test system is designed and set up to experimentally investigate impact responses of composite laminates subjected to the low-velocity impact. Using the test system, the impact velocity and the rebound velocity of the impactor as well as the impact force history are measured. An error of the measured data due to a difference in measuring position of the sensor is corrected and, for the estimation of real contact force history, a method of correcting an error due to friction forces is developed. Experimental methods to fix the boundary edgy of laminate specimens in impact testing are investigated and the impact tests on the specimens fixed by those methods are performed. Impact force histories and dynamic strains measured from the tests are compared with numerical results from the finite element analysis using the contact law. Consequently, the nonlinear numerical results considering the large deflection effects are agreed with the experimental results better than the linear ones.

This paper deals with a study of striker type impact hammer drill for improving the drilling performance. The study was performed through a numerical simulation of the impact hammer mechanism, an experimental comparison of the numerical simulation results and an optimization of the impact mechanism. The numerical model of the impact hammer drill takes into account the striker motion and the effects of the pressure in the cylinder as well as the friction acting on the striker. The equation of motion is solved with the pressure equation in the cylinder and the friction force. At the moment of impact, an ideal impact model that uses restitutiion codfficient is used to calculate the sudden change of the striker motion. The impact force numerically simulated shows a good agreement with the experimental results and thus, the validity of the numerical model is proven. Based upon the proposed model, an optimization was performed to improve the impact force of the hammer drill. The objective function is to maximize the impact force and the design variables are striker mass, frequency of piston, bit guide mass, cylindrical diameter and dimensions of the mechanism components. Each design variable and some other conditions that are essential to maintain normal operation of the hammer drill are considered as constraints. The optimized result shows remarkable improvement in impact force and an experimental proof was investigated.

Landscape impact assessment(LIA) is an aid to decision-making. For the decision maker, LIA provides a scientific examination of the predicted landscape implications of a proposed action and of the mitigation measures, before a decision is taken. Thus, the efficacy of LIA depends on the scientific credibility of the prediction and mitigation measures described in the landscape impact statement. The purpose of this paper was to examine the efficacy of LIA through the content analysis of prediction and mitigation measures in the selected 39 landscape impact statements and 34 environmental impact statements. The content of the selected statements was analyzed in terms of the quantification, precision, significance, and likelihood. The results showed that both prediction and mitigation measures were very low in the scientific credibility. Specifically, the prediction was ambiguously described without scientific probability, and the effect of mitigation measures was not specifically presented in the reports. Thus, landscape impact statement can not give credible information in the decision making process, which weakens the efficacy as an aid to decision-making. Based on the results, several suggestions were presented to enhance the efficacy of LIA.
Purpose: This study was conducted to experimentally investigate the structural safety of and identify critical locations in a front-end loader under impact loads. Methods: Impact and static tests were conducted on a commonly used front-end loader mounted on a tractor. In the impact test, the bucket of the front-end loader with maximum live load was raised to its maximum lift height and was allowed to free fall to a height of 500 mm above the ground where it was stopped abruptly. For the static test, the bucket with maximum live load was raised and held at the maximum lift height, median height, and a height of 500 mm from the ground. Strain gages were attached at twenty-three main locations on the front-end loader, and the maximum stresses and strains were measured during respective impact and static tests. Results: Stresses and strains at the same location on the loader were higher in the impact test than in the static test, for most of measurement locations. This indicated that the front-end loader was put under a severe environment during impact loading. The safety factors for stresses were higher than 1.0 at all locations during impact and static tests. Conclusions: Since the lowest safety factor was higher than 1.0, the front-end loader was considered as structurally safe under impact loads. However, caution must be exercised at the locations having relatively low safety factors because failure may occur at these locations under high impact loads. These important design locations were identified to be the bucket link elements and the connection elements between the tractor frame and front-end loader. A robust design is required for these elements because of their high failure probability caused by excessive impact stress.
This study is to explore floor impact sound and sound insulation of reinforced concrete structure with void-deck slab system which combines polystyrene void foam and T-shaped steel deck plate. A void-deck slab system can effectively reduce the amount of concrete used and hence the mass of a reinforced concrete slab. Also void slab system has dynamically favorable for bending. Three-bay 2-story building was constructed as a mock up test specimen using void-deck slab system and floor impact sound was measured to valuate sound insulation performance. Light weight floor impact and heavy weight floor impact were investigated. Light weight floor impact pressure levels were 32dB, 28dB, and 29db at representative locations which are $1^{st}$ level in the floor impact sound insulation performance grading system. The heavy-weight floor impact pressure levels were 44dB, 45dB, and 43dB at representative locations which are $2^{nd}$ level in the floor impact sound insulation performance grading system. Therefore void-deck slab system can be used in public housing apartment building in terms of not only effectively reduced construction materials but also floor impact sound insulation.
