When detonation is occurred, the working fluid is compressed itself, though there are no other devices that compress the fluid. As a result, an engine which uses detonation for a combustion process doesn't need moving parts so that the engine can be lighter than other engines ever exist, and such an engine is often referred to as a pulse detonation engine. Since using detonation has higher performance than using deflagration, many studies have been attempting to control and analyze the engines using detonation as combustion. The purpose of this study is to analyze the hybrid cycle which is consisted of Brayton and Pulse Detonation Engine cycle. At first, we set the theoretical basis of detonation analysis, and after that we consider two hybrid cycles; a turbojet hybrid cycle and a turbofan hybrid cycle. The more energy released, the higher detonation Mach number the detonation wave has. In general, a cycle which has a detonation process has higher performances but thermal efficiency of hybrid turbofan engine.
The most important feature of the one-cycle control method is its excellent ability in line disturbance rejection. However, when it is used as a controller in dc-dc converters, it has an undesirable transient response. The voltage overshoot at the transient time, which usually exists in one-cycle controlled converters, is unwanted in many applications and it is sometimes hazardous. In this paper, it is shown that the combination of a one-cycle controller with a current mode controller, can improve the transient response and consequently the overshoot can be controlled. Therefore, the combined controller has the excellent line disturbance rejection of a one-cycle controller and the output current limiting capability of current mode controllers. Because in this scheme a one-cycle controller is the master controller, the problem of instability of current mode control, will not happen. By simulation and a practical prototype, the capability of the method is shown.

The cycle time of construction equipment for earthwork operations has a significant impact on project productivity. Elements that directly impact a haul vehicle's cycle time must be identified in order to accurately quantify the haul cycle time and implement strategies to decrease it. The objective of this research is to scientifically identify and quantify variables that have a significant impact on the cycle time of a dump truck used for earthwork. Real-time location data collected by GPS devices deployed in an active earthwork moving construction site was analyzed using statistical regression. External data including environmental components and haul road conditions were also collected periodically throughout the study duration. Several statistical analyses including a variance analysis and regression analysis were completed on the dump truck location data. Collected data was categorized by stage of the dump truck cycle. Results indicate that a dump truck's enter idle time, exit idle time, moving speed and driver visibility can significantly impact the dump truck cycle time. The contribution of this research is the identification and analysis of statistically significant correlations of variables within the cycle time.

This paper presents a novel method for satisfying the thermal comfort of indoor environment and reducing the summer peak demand power by minimizing the power consumption for an Air-conditioner within a space. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) use the fixed duty cycle control method regardless of the indoor thermal environment. However, this method has disadvantages that energy saving depends on the set-point value of the Air-Conditioner and direct load control (DLC) has no net effects on Air-conditioners if the appliance has a lower operating cycle than the fixed duty cycle. In this paper, the variable duty cycle control method is proposed in order to compensate the weakness of conventional fixed duty cycle control method and improve the satisfaction of residents and the reduction of peak demand. The proposed method estimates the predict mean vote (PMV) at the next step with predicted temperature and humidity using the back propagation neural network model. It is possible to reduce the energy consumption by maintaining the Air-conditioner's OFF state when the PMV lies in the thermal comfort range. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed variable duty cycle control method, the case study is performed using the historical data on Sep. 7th, 2001 acquired at a classroom in Seoul and the obtained results are compared with the fixed duty cycle control method.

The characteristics of a combined cycle for the production of fresh water and air-conditioning was analyzed. The combined cycle consisted of an open water cycle and a $CO_2$ refrigeration cycle interlinked in the pre-heater of the water cycle, which is the condenser of the refrigeration cycle. The oprating conditions and criteria for the fresh water production and air-conditioning was described and their effects on the total system were evaluated. The results indicated an increase of desalinated water with the increase of hot water temperature, which resulted in the decrease of cooling capacity of the refrigeration system in this study. However, the energy saving correspond to the pre-heating of the water cycle by the condensing of the refrigeration system shows the avilable advantage of the proposed cycle as compared to other single purpose plants for desalination.

The $CO_{2}$ refrigeration cycle is expected to reduce the compressor work and increase the COP by applying two-phase ejector as a device for the recovery of dissipated expansion energy. In this study, the performance of the cycle was simulated and effects of the ejector shapes on the performance of the $CO_{2}$ refrigeration cycle were investigated. The following results were obtained through the cycle simulation. The COP of the $CO_{2}$ refrigeration cycle with two-phase ejector flow which expansion is occured in the isentropic manner is increased by a maximum of 24 $\%$ than the basic cycle with expansion valve If the velocity nonequilibrium in the mixing process is assumed the COP of the cycle is increased with the increase of the length and the decrease of the section area of the mixing tube. The best cycle performance is obtained when the divergent angle of diffuser is 7.
To identify the component(s) involved in cell cycle control in the protozoan Giardia lamblia, cells arrested at the G1/S- or G2-phase by treatment with nocodazole and aphidicolin were prepared from the synchronized cell cultures. RNA-sequencing analysis of the 2 stages of Giardia cell cycle identified several cell cycle genes that were up-regulated at the G2-phase. Transcriptome analysis of cells in 2 distinct cell cycle stages of G. lamblia confirmed previously reported components of cell cycle (PcnA, cyclin B, and CDK) and identified additional cell cycle components (NEKs, Mad2, spindle pole protein, and CDC14A). This result indicates that the cell cycle machinery operates in this protozoan, one of the earliest diverging eukaryotic lineages.
In this study, the characteristics of heating performance of a high-performance air-cooled heat pump with vapor-injection(VI) cycle using re-heater was investigated experimentally. Devices used in the experiment is consist of a VI compressor, condenser, oil separator, refrigerant (economizer outlet refrigerant) re-heater, economizer, evaporator. And R410A was used as a working fluid. The experiment was conducted with two cycles(cycles A and B) for investigating heating performance. In case of cycle B, heat exchange was conducted by re-heater between outlet refrigerant of compressor and suction refrigerant of the VI system(Fig.1, re-heater). But the re-heater was not used in case of cycle A. As a result of this experiment, discharge temperature of refrigerator in compressor was shown higher value, when the cycle B was conducted, because of the heat exchange between suction refrigerant of VI cycle and outlet refrigerant of compressor in the re-heater than cycle A that was not use re-heater. it means that liquid hammer and the decrement of heating performance can be decreased by using re-heater. Also, Heating coefficient of performance(COPh) was shown about 2.98 in Cycle B which was 4% higher than Cycle A and from these results, It was confirmed that the improvement of the heating performance of heat pump with VI cycle can be achieved by applying re-heater.
Kyung-hee Thorium Fuel (KTF), a heterogeneous thorium-based seed and blanket design concept for pressurized light water reactors, is being studied as an alternative to enhance proliferation resistance and fuel cycle economics of PWRs. The proliferation resistance characteristics of the KTF assembly design were evaluated through parametric studies using neutronic performance indices such as Bare Critical Mass (BCM), Spontaneous Neutron Source rate (SNS), Thermal Generation rate (TG), and Radio-Toxicity. Also, Fissile Economic Index (FEI), a new index for gauging fuel cycle economy, was suggested and applied to optimize the KTF design. A core loaded with optimized KTF assemblies with a seed-to-blanket ratio of 1: 1 was tested at the Korea Next Generation Reactor (KNGR), ARP-1400. Core design characteristics for cycle length, power distribution, and power peaking were evaluated by HELIOS and MASTER code systems for nine reload cycles. The core calculation results show that the KTF assembly design has nearly the same neutronic performance as those of a conventional $UO_2$ fuel assembly. However, the power peaking factor is relatively higher than that of conventional PWRs as the maximum Fq is 2.69 at the M$9^{th}$ equilibrium cycle while the design limit is 2.58. In order to assess the economic potential of a heterogeneous thorium fuel core, the front-end fuel cycle costs as well as the spent fuel disposal costs were compared with those of a reference PWR fueled with $UO_2$. In the case of comprising back-end fuel cycle cost, the fuel cycle cost of APR-1400 with a KTF assembly is 4.99 mills/KWe-yr, which is lower than that (5.23 mills/KWe-yr) of a conventional PWR. Proliferation resistance potential, BCM, SNS, and TG of a heterogeneous thorium-fueled core are much higher than those of the $UO_2$ core. The once-through fuel cycle application of heterogeneous thorium fuel assemblies demonstrated good competitiveness relative to $UO_2$ in terms of economics.
For the analysis of a dry process fuel cycle, new modules were implemented into the fuel cycle analysis code DYMOND, which was developed by the Argonne National Laboratory. The modifications were made to the energy demand prediction model, a Canada deuterium uranium (CANDU) reactor, direct use of spent pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel in CANDU reactors (DUPIC) fuel cycle model, the fuel cycle calculation module, and the input/output modules. The performance of the modified DYMOND code was assessed for the postulated once-through fuel cycle models including both the PWR and CANDU reactor. This paper presents modifications of the DYMOND code and the results of sample calculations for the PWR once-though and DUPIC fuel cycles.
