With development of wearable devices, there is an increased interest in bio-signal monitoring techniques that can measure the user's health condition. However, embedding several bio-signal sensors in one wearable device has some inherent problems in terms of limited resources such as its size. Furthermore, such problem also arise when new bio-signal sensors are added. In this paper, we introduced the Bio-Cradle, which is a Plug-in module that can transfer the biological signals in real time from the accelerometer, ECG, or PPG sensor to other wearable devices at the request from the user of wearable devices. When the Bio-Cradle plugged in to the other device, it can transfer several synchronized bio-signals regardless of the type of device.

In this study, among the various types of plant equipment, valves, which are susceptible to water hammer, were selected as the diagnosis target. In order to effectively measure the vibration, an accelerometer was adapted for use in this difficult environment. The results showed that the maximum peak-to-peak vibration displacement caused by the action of water hammer on the valve was 21.40 mm, which would affect the structural stability of the valve and pipe. Meanwhile, the measured data was applied to the HIL simulator to verify the reproduction of the vibration. In the future, field data will be applied to the HIL simulator for the purpose of assessing the fatigue, durability and expected residual life of the plant equipment.

The technology of distinguishing human motion states is required in the areas of measuring and analyzing biosignals changing according to physical activities, diagnosing sleep disorder, screening the effect of treatment, examining chronic patients' kinetic state, prescribing exercise therapy, etc. The present study implemented a fuzzy inference system based on fuzzy rules that distinguish human motion states (tying, sitting, walking, and running) by acquiring and processing data of LAA, TAA, L-MAD, and T-MAD using ADXL202AE of Analog Devices embedded in an armband. The membership degree and fuzzy rules in each area of input (LAA, TAA, L-MAD, and T-MAD) and output (tying, sitting, walking, and running) data used here were determined using numeric data obtained from experiment. In the results of analyzing data for simulation generated in order of tying$\rightarrow$walking$\rightarrow$running$\rightarrow$tying, the sorting rate for motion states tying, sitting, walking, and running was 100% for each motion.
This paper describes the analysis of vibration characteristics through the human body as the research for voice therapy and diagnosis. The oscillation signal is not external forces but the self-voice to be pronounced the vowels ('a', 'e', 'i', 'o', 'u'). The experiment system consists of microphones, accelerometers and amplifiers. The input data are stored by the computer. At the same time, the voice is stored by the microphone and the vibration signal of the human body is stored by accelerometer. The 63 points are appointed in head, neck, trunk of human body. The positions and number of times are changeable by the purpose. The analysis parameters are amplitude, phase, fundamental. frequency, formant and the correlation of vibration signal and voice is measured by coherence function. The results show that the vibration signals have characteristic vibration in the positions of human body.
With the introduction of smart phones, the augmented reality became popular and is increasingly drawing attention. The augmented reality in the mobile devices is becoming an individual area to study. Many applications of the augmented reality have been studied, but there are just a few studies on its combination with artificial intelligence in games. In this study, an artificial intelligence algorithm was proposed, which dynamically converts the state of the 3D agent in the augmented reality environment using the 3-Axis acceleration sensor in the smart phone. To control the state of the agent to which the artificial intelligence is applied, users used to directly enter the data or use markers to detect them. The critical values, which were determined via test, were given to the acceleration sensor to ensure accurate state conversion. In this paper, makerless tracking technology was used to implement the augmented reality, and the state of the agent was dynamically converted using the 3-Axis acceleration seonsor.
Recently, gesture recognition methods based on dynamic time warping (DTW) have been actively investigated as more mobile devices have equipped the accelerometer. DTW has no additional training step since it uses given samples as the matching templates. However, it is difficult to apply the DTW on mobile environments because of its computational complexity of matching step where the input pattern has to be compared with every templates. In order to address the problem, this paper proposes a gesture recognition method based on DTW that uses localized subset of templates. Here, the k-means clustering algorithm is used to divide each class into subclasses in which the most centered sample in each subclass is employed as the localized template. It increases the recognition speed by reducing the number of matches while it minimizes the errors by preserving the diversities of the training patterns. Experimental results showed that the proposed method was about five times faster than the DTW with all training samples, and more stable than the randomly selected templates.
In modern society, development of medical technology has extended the human life span. However, it has also caused some side-effects. Mostly old people who live alone are not available the medical service quickly when they are in emergency situations. Moreover heart related diseases as well are rapidly increasing with aging. This study proposes the emergency medical alarm system. This system measures the physiological signals such as ECG(electrocardiogram), temperature, and motion data, analyzes those data automatically, and sends the urgent message to the Emergency Medical Center and to their family. There are two main parts in the system. In the first part, physiological data acquisition part, the troublesome addition and deletion of body signals on existing proposed systems have been supplemented, which led to the modulized production by means of ECG sensor module, temperature sensor module, acceleration sensor module. The other part is mobile unit, which includes signal processing and transmission functions. And bluetooth allows two parts to communicate with each other. Data that are processed in the mobile unit are stored in the PC database through the WLAN using TCP/IP protocol.

Fiber reinforced plastic material should be inspected in fabrication process in order to enhance quality by prevent defects such as delamination and void. Generally, ultrasonic technique is widely used to evaluate FRP. In conventional ultrasonic techniques, transducer should be contacted on FRP. However, conventional contacting method could not be applied in fabrication process and novel non-contact evaluating technique was required. Laser-based ultrasonic technique was tried to evaluate CFRP plate. Laser-based ultrasonic waves propagated on CFRP were received with various transducers such as accelerometer and AE sensor in order to evaluate the properties of waves due to the variation of frequency. Velocities of laser-based ultrasonic waves were evaluated for various fiber orientation. In addition, laser interferometry was used to receive ultrasonic wave in CFRP and frequency was analysed.
Objective: Environmental change is one of the stressful events in livestock production. Change in environment disturbs cow behavior and cows require several days to regain a stable behavioral pattern. Sleeping posture (SP) and lying posture (LP) have been used as indicators for animal that are relaxed and well-acclimated to their environment. The aim of this study was to examine the time required by Japanese black cows for stabilization of SP and LP after moving into new environment. Methods: Seven pregnant Japanese black cows were used. Cows were moved into new tie-stall shed and their sleeping and lying posture measured 17 times during 35 experimental days. Both SP and LP were detected by accelerometer fixed on middle occipital and hip-cross, respectively. Daily total time, frequency, and average bout of both SP and LP were calculated. Results: Daily SP time was the shortest on day 1 and increased to the highest on day 3. It then decreased until day 9, after that stabilized about 65 min/d till the end of experiment. Daily LP time changed in same manner as daily SP time. The average SP bout was the longest on day 1, and then decreased to stable level on day 7. On the other hand, the average LP bout was the shortest on day 1, and it increased to stable level on day 7. Conclusion: These results showed that pregnant Japanese black cows needed 1 week to stabilize their SP. However, there were different change patterns between the average SP and LP bout, even though the change pattern of daily SP and LP time were similar.
In this study, wireless measurement technique for human motion was developed to monitor movement disorder patients during their daily life. MICA, TinyOS, and nesC, developed by UC Berkeley, were used as wireless sensor, its software platform, and programming language. The human motion data, generated by two axial accelerometer(ADXL202) was transmitted to PDA(iPaq3630) by 916Mhz short range communication chip(TR1000). It could be stored at PDA by simple Windows CE programming. To test the developed device, it was attached at human chest and the acquired data was shown as a graph during his motion of sitting, standing, and lying. The result showed that human motion could be logged without any hooking and constraints. Therefore, this device can be used to monitor patient's movement disorder and activity of daily life(ADL).
