The virtual Frisch-grid method for room-temperature radiation detectors has been widely used because of its simplicity and high performance. Recently, side electrodes were separately attached to each surface of the detectors instead of covering the entire detector surface with a single electrode. The side-electrode structure enables the measurement of the three-dimensional (3D) gamma-ray interaction in the detector. The positional information of the interaction can then be utilized to precisely calibrate the response of the detector for gamma-ray spectroscopy and imaging. In this study, we developed a 3D position-sensitive 5 × 5 × 12 mm3 cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) detector and applied a flattening method to correct detector responses. Collimated gamma-rays incident on the surface of the detector were scanned to evaluate the positional accuracy of the detection system. Positional distributions of the radiation interactions with the detector were imaged for quantitative and qualitative evaluation. The energy spectra of various radioisotopes were measured and improved by the detector response calibration according to the calculated positional information. The energy spectra ranged from 59.5 keV (emitted by 241Am) to 1332 keV (emitted by 60Co). The best energy resolution was 1.06% at 662 keV when the CZT detector was voxelized to 20 × 20 × 10.
A detection system was set up to measure the neutron generation rate of a recently developed D-D neutron generator. The system is composed of a Si detector, He-3 detector, and electronics for pulse height analysis. The neutron generation rate was measured by counting protons using the Si detector, and the data was crosschecked by counting neutrons with the He-3 detector. The efficiencies of the Si and He-3 detectors were calibrated independently by using a standard alpha particle source $^{241}Am$ and a bare isotopic neutron source $^{252}Cf$, respectively. The effect of the cross-sectional difference between the D(d,p)T and $D(d,n)^3He$ reactions was evaluated for the case of a thick target. The neutron generation rate was theoretically corrected for the anisotropic emission of protons and neutrons in the D-D reactions. The attenuations of neutron on the path to the He-3 detector by the target assembly and vacuum flange of the neutron generator were considered by the Monte Carlo method using the MCNP 4C2 code. As a result, the neutron generation rate based on the Si detector measurement was determined with a relative uncertainty of ${\pm}5%$, and the two rates measured by both detectors corroborated within 20%.
Among photon counting detector (PCD)-based technologies, the K-edge subtraction (KES) method has a very high material decomposition efficiency. Yet, since the increase in noise in the X-ray image to which the KES method is applied is inevitable, research on image quality improvement is essential. Here, we modeled a block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm and applied it to PCD-based X-ray images with the improved KES (IKES) method. For PCD modeling, Monte Carlo simulation was used, and a phantom composed of iodine substances with different concentrations was designed. The IKES method was modeled by adding a log term to KES, and the X-ray image used for subtraction was obtained by applying the 3.0 keV range based on the K-edge region of iodine. As a result, the IKES image using the BM3D algorithm showed the lowest normalized noise power spectrum value. In addition, we confirmed that the contrast-to-noise ratio and no-reference-based evaluation results when the BM3D algorithm was applied to the IKES image were improved by 29.36 % and 20.56 %, respectively, compared to the noisy image. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the IKES imaging technique using a PCD-based detector and the BM3D algorithm fusion technique were very efficient for X-ray imaging.

State-of-art instance segmentation networks are successful at generating 2D segmentation mask for region proposals with highest classification score, yet 3D object segmentation task is limited to geocentric embedding or detector of Sliding Shapes. To this end, we propose an amodal 3D instance segmentation network called A3IS-CNN, which extends the detector of Deep Sliding Shapes to amodal 3D instance segmentation by adding a new branch of 3D ConvNet called A3IS-branch. The A3IS-branch which takes 3D amodal ROI as input and 3D semantic instances as output is a fully convolution network(FCN) sharing convolutional layers with existing 3d RPN which takes 3D scene as input and 3D amodal proposals as output. For two branches share computation with each other, our 3D instance segmentation network adds only a small overhead of 0.25 fps to Deep Sliding Shapes, trading off accurate detection and point-to-point segmentation of instances. Experiments show that our 3D instance segmentation network achieves at least 10% to 50% improvement over the state-of-art network in running time, and outperforms the state-of-art 3D detectors by at least 16.1 AP.
In this study, we designed and fabricated an ultra-compact CT that automatically calibrates the detector's center axis and verified its performance. The three-dimensional reconstruction performance was evaluated using 3D CAD data and X-ray data acquired by manually calibrating the center axis of the CT detector. The results showed that tilting the center axis by more than 0.25° causes circle break phenomenon, which rapidly degrades the quality of the 3D reconstructed image. By applying the automatic calibration device of a detector center axis, the 3D reconstruction performance was enhanced by calibrating the detector center axis to match the specimen rotation axis.

The D-STTD system obtains the diversity gain through the STTD scheme and the Multiplexing gain through parallel structure of the encoder using the STTD scheme known Alamouti Code. We are difficult to use Combining scheme of the STTD scheme for the D-STTD detection in the decoder because the D-STTD system transmits mutually different data in each other STTD encoder for multiplexing gain. Therefore, in this paper we combine the D-STTD system with Linear algorithm, SIC algorithm and OSIC algorithm known multiplexing detection scheme based on MMSE scheme and compare the performance of each system. And we propose the detection scheme of the D-STTD using MAP Algorithm and analyze the performance of each system. The simulation results show that the detector using iterative algorithm has better performance than Linear MMSE Detector. Especially, we show that the detector using MAP algorithm outperforms conventional detector.

Hidden flame detection after allegedly extinguishing a fire cannot be emphasized enough. There are a few commercial hidden fire detection equipments which are imported, but the cost is relatively high. In this contribution, we propose a development of a low-cost, high-performance hidden flame detector using open-source hardware/software. We use Raspberry-pi based hardware board equipped with a TFT touch-screen LCD, a 3G modem, and an attachable battery device altogether integrated in a plastic case fabricated with a 3D printer. The proposed hidden flame detector shows the same performance of a commercial product FLIR E5 while consuming less than a half of the cost.

This paper presents an implementation of Lattice Reduction (LR)-aided detector for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system using Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). GPU is a parallel processor which has a number of Arithmetic Logic Units (ALUs), thus, it can minimize the operation time of LR algorithm through the parallelization using multiple threads in the GPU. Through the implemented LR-aided detector, we verify that the LR-aided detector operates a lot faster than Maximum Likelihood (ML) detector. The implemented LR-aided detector has been applied to WiMAX system to show the feasibility of its real-time processing. In addition, we demonstrate that the processing time can be reduced at the cost of 3dB SNR loss by limiting the repeating loop in Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz (LLL) algorithm which is frequently used in LR-aided detector.

The proposed detector is consists of three-phase sinusoidal signal generator and peak detector. This peak detector can detect the peak voltage value at the state of variable frequency. In experi-ment three-phase sinusoidal signals are generated from D/A converter using IBM PC and deliv-ered to the peak detector. Each signals are squared by multiplier and summed up Peak value is the square root of summed value extracted by square root circuit.
