  • This paper proposes small VCM(voice coil motor) type, auto-focusing and zoom actuators for mobile information devices. In order to meet the large output displacement within small height restriction, the proposed auto-focusing actuator adopts curved suspensions, which are similar to a leaf-spring type suspension of optical disk drives. The sensitivity of design parameters on output displacement and dynamic performance is implemented using ANSYS (3D FEM tool) to determine the optimal geometry and stiffness of the curved suspensions. This paper also investigates a new zoom actuator without a suspension supporting a bobbin. The zoom actuator uses a moving rail and a stoper mechanism by generating rotational force at lens holder. Magnetic flux density of the zoom actuator are calculated by both the FEM and permeance method. Experiments using prototypes of the proposed focusing and zoom models show that both actuators meet the required displacement and performance.

  • Aspheric glass lenses was fabricated by glass molding press(GMP), which is a plano-aspheric convox shape and intended for use as an optical design of 3 megapixel and 2.5 magnifications zoom in a camera phone module. Transcription ratio of form accuracy (PV) as well as resolution properties was measured for evaluation the molded lens. Form accuracy (PV) of the mold surface was $0.127\;{\mu}m$ in an aspheric and $0.168\;{\mu}m$ in a plano, in case of the molded lens it shows $0.205\;{\mu}m$ and $0.223\;{\mu}m$, respectively. Resolution of the molded lens was measured as a MTF[Contrast]. The molded lens shows contrast of 32.9% at 80 1p/mm and the value is similar with contrast of 33% obtained simulation.

  • In this paper, an optical system was designed for 3D imaging laser radar with optical scanner. In order to make it easy to scan, the system was designed to inscribe the transmitting objective lens in the receiving lens. In transmitting optics, the beam expander was designed to have a zoom mechanism so that the transmitted beam size would be 4.8 m or 6.8 m at 1 km distance, when the laser source's numerical aperture value is between 0.13 and 0.22. The beam diameter at the target 1 km away was confirmed by design program. The receiving optics for the returning beam from the target was designed for the $16{\times}16$ array detector with $100{\mu}m$ pixel width. The spot diameter in every pixel was designed and verified to be less than $55{\mu}m$. The receiving optics' obscuration ratio by transmitting optics was 11%.

  • In aerial cameras, image quality is easily affected by weather, temperature, and the attitude of the aircraft. Aiming at this phenomenon, based on the theory of two-step zoom optical systems, a dual-band optical-despun two-step zoom optical system is designed. The system has a small field of view of 2.00° × 1.60°, and a large field of view of 4.00° × 3.20°. In the zoom process, the wavelength range is 0.45-0.70 ㎛ and 0.75-1.10 ㎛, and the size of the optical system is 168 mm (L) × 90 mm (W) × 60 mm (H). The overall lens weight is only 170.8 g, which has advantages for miniaturization and light weight. At the Nyquist frequency of 104 lp/mm, the modulation transfer function of the visible-light optical system is more than 0.44, and that of the near-infrared optical system is more than 0.30, both of which have good imaging quality and tolerance characteristics in the range of -45 to 60 ℃.

  • Speed, accuracy and smoothness are the important properties of pan-tilt camera. In the case of a high ratio zoom lens system, low vibration characteristic is a crucial point in driving pan-tilt mechanism. In this paper, a novel micro-stepping controller with a function of reducing vibration was designed using field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) technology for high zoom ratio pan-tilt camera. The proposed variable reference current (VRC) control scheme reduces vibration decently and optimizing coil current in order to prevent the step motor from occurring missing steps. By employing VRC control scheme, the vibration in low speed could be significantly minimized. The proposed controller can also make very high speed of 378kpps micro-step driving, and increase maximum acceleration in motion profiles.

  • When the optical image stabilization is implemented by moving one of the lens groups in a zoom system, decentration should be considered in the optical design process. Although it is partially possible to calibrate optical performances in an optical system with non-symmetrical elements by using a lot of commercial software, the results of calibrating longitudinal aberrations have some calibration errors because of the lack of precise consideration of decentered optical systems. In particular, the amount of distortion in paraxial ray tracing is different from the experimental value because paraxial ray tracing in the optical system is not useful. In this paper, in order to solve this problem being from various commercial lens design software, the set of equations of paraxial ray tracing in a zoom lens system with the non-symmetrical elements like decentration or tilt are theoretically induced. Then, the methods to calibrate the equations of longitudinal aberrations by using these equations in a non-symmetrical optical system are presented. The method of calibrating longitudinal aberrations can in practice be used to correct hand shaking effects in a zoom lens system.

  • Near field recording(NFR) technology has been considered as a strong candidate to surpass the far-field diffraction limit imposed by the nature of light in present optical disk drives such as CD, DVD, and BD(Blu-ray Disk). In this paper, we suggest novel inside near-field dual layer recording concept using elliptic shape solid immersion lens(ESIL).
