  • The neustonic calanoid copepods Pontella securifer Brady, 1883 and P. sinica Chen and Zhang, 1965 are first recorded in Korea. These species occur in high temperatures over $23^{\circ}C$ and in a range of salinity from 26.6 to 31.2 psu. We provide full descriptions of the two species and discuss their zoogeography.

  • Neustonic calanoid copepods were collected at the South Sea of Korea using a David-Hempel neuston net. Four Pantel/apsis species (P. armata Giesbrecht, P. rega/is Dana, P. vil/asa Brady and P. yamadae Mori) were identified and the former three species were first recorded in the Korea. We present redescription of the four species with SEM micrographs of female genitalia. Female genital structure is species-specific and can be very useful for species classification in the genus Pantel/apsis. Also we discuss zoogeography of Pantel/apsis species and provide with a key to the species hitherto known in the Korean waters.

  • Phylogeny is the evolutionary history of a group or the lineage of organisms and is reconstructed based on morphological, molecular and other characteristics. The genealogical relationship of a group of taxa is often expressed as a phylogenetic tree. The difficulty in categorizing the phylogeny is mainly due to the existence of frequent homoplasies that deceive observers. At the present time, cladistic analysis is believed to be one of the most effective methods of reconstructing a phylogenetic tree. Excellent computer program software for phylogenetic analysis is available. As an example, cladistic analysis was applied for nematode genera of the family Acuariidae, and the phylogenetic tree formed was compared with the system used currently. Nematodes in the genera Nippostrongylus and Heligmonoides were also analyzed, and the validity of the reconstructed phylogenetic trees was observed from a zoogeographical point of view. Some of the theories of parasite evolution were briefly reviewed as well. Coevolution of parasites and humans was discussed with special reference to the evolutionary relationship between Enterobius and primates.

  • In this paper the author added 25 unrecorded and 82 known species up to the end of 1975. The number of species present in Korea have increased from 239 to 346. These are belonging to 143 genera and 37 families. In view of zoogeography Korean spiders may be grouped as follows: 60 northern species $(17.3\%)$ 15 southern species $(4.4\%)$ 11 cosmopolitan species$(3.2\%)$ 260 basic species$(75.1\%)$ 47 endemic species $(13.6\%)$ Species common with China mainland, 100 species $(28.6\%)$ and Japanese, 290 species $(83.8\%)$.

  • Extensive survey of invertebrates in Korea, led by the National Institute of Biological Resources in Incheon, continues to uncover many new and endemic species, but also elements of neighbouring faunas that were previously unknown here. Hemicyclops tanakai Itoh and Nishida, 2002 was originally described from estuarine mud-flats in Tokyo Bay, Japan. We report one male and two females from a sandy beach on Jeju Island, which represent its first record in Korea and second record ever. No morphological differences were observed between these two disjunct populations, so we expect more records of this species in Korea and Japan. Tisbe ensifer Fischer, 1860 was originally described from Madeira and later on reported from numerous other parts of the Northern Atlantic, as well as from the Indian Ocean. We report two females from a shallow littoral in Sokcho, which represents its first record in Korea and the first record in the entire Pacific Ocean. Because of morphological discrepancies reported in previous records we recognize that this species might be in reality a species complex, and we only tentatively identify our Korean specimens as T. cf. ensifer. We provide numerous light photographs of both species in addition to short descriptions, in hope that they might elucidate global problems of their zoogeography and dispersal of small marine invertebrates in general. Further samplings from Korea and other parts of the world will be necessary to test our identifications and phylogenetic relationships of Korean populations with molecular and other tools.

  • The present census on freshwater bryozoans in the Han River, Geum River and in lentic water bodies in Gangwon Province revealed three gymnolaemate species. Two of them-Hislopia prolixa Hirose and Mawatari, 2011 and Victorella pavida Saville Kent, 1870 were recorded for the first time from South Korea. Paludicella articulata (Ehrenberg, 1831), on the other hand, had already been documented from a few sites since 1941. The bryozoans, all belonging to the order of Ctenostomata, were found on a variety of substrates in freshwater (H. prolixa and P. articulata) and brackish habitats (V. pavida). Hislopia prolixa had recently been established as a new species and this is the first record for an occurrence outside of Japan, where it had been newly described from Lake Biwa and nearby satellite lakes.

  • The 9th Indo-Pacific Fish Conference (IPFC9) was held in Okinawa, Japan from 24th to 28th June 2013. Five hundred and thirty two delegates from 36 countries/regions around the world attended. The Conference took place with a welcome address by Dr. Keiichi Matsuura in the Laguna Garden Hotel next to the Okinawa Convention Center in the evening of 23rd June 2013, one day before the official start of the IPFC9. The winners of the two IPFC9 Bleeker Awards, Jeffrey M. Leis (Ecology) and Gerald R. Allen (Systematics) provided excellent talks on "Change in the early life-history of Indo-Pacific Fishes" and "The center of Indo-Pacific reef fish diversity". A total of 462 papers were presented, including 328 oral and 134 poster presentations. The main themes of IPFC9 included systematics, evolution, zoogeography and phylogeography, biodiversity, ecology, behavior, and conservation. There were 14 symposia, which included topics such as "Top predatory fish in the Indo-Pacific ecosystems", "Fish diversity across environmental extremes", "Ontogeny and systematics of Indo-Pacific fishes", and "Phylogenetics and diversification of the Percomorpha". IPFC10 will be held in Papeete, Tahiti.
