An efficient mobility management for mobile stations plays an important role in mobile communication network. Two basic operations of mobility management are location registration and paging. A zone-based registration (ZBR) is implemented in most of mobile communication systems and we consider the mobility management scheme that combines a zone-based registration and a selective paging (SP). We propose new analytical model that can reflect on the characteristics of the ZBR based on 2-dimensional random walk mobility model and more efficient paging schemes considering the proposed model. We evaluate the performance of the mobility management scheme with our mobility model to determine the optimal size of location area that will result in the minimum signaling traffic on radio channels. Numerical results are provided to demonstrate that our mobility model is useful to evaluate the ZBR more exactly.

Accurate heat release analysis based on the cylinder pressure trace is important for evaluating combustion process of diesel engines. However, traditional single-zone heat release models (SZM) have significant limitations due mainly to their simplified assumptions of uniform charge and homogeneity while neglecting local temperature distribution inside cylinder during combustion process. In this study, a heat release analysis based on single-zone model has been evaluated by comparison with computational simulation result using Fire-code, which is based on multidimensional model (MDM). The limitations of the single-zone assumption have been estimated, To overcome these limitations, an improved model that includes the effects of spatial non-uniformity has been applied. From this improved single-zone heat release model (Improved-SZM), two effective values of specific heat ratios, denoted by ${\gamma}_V$ and ${\gamma}_H$ in this study, have been introduced. These values are formulated as the function of charge temperature changing rate and overall equivalence ratio. Also, it is applied that each equation of ${\gamma}_V$ and ${\gamma}_H$ has respectively different slopes according to several meaningful periods during combustion progress. The heat release analysis results based on improved single-zone model gives a good agreement with FIRE-code results over the whole range of operating conditions of target engine, Hyundai HiMSEN H21/32.

Experimental studies were peformed to investigate variations in ductility of shear wall with length of boundary confinement. Eight specimens containg different lengths of confinment zone, which model compressive zone in plastic regions of shear walls, were tested against eccentric vetical load. Stress-strain model for confined concrete was used to predict strength and ductility of the specimens, which was compared to the test results. The results obtained show that failure of the compressive zone occurs in a brittle manner when the stress of unconfined zone softened after the ultimate strength were reached. To enhance the ductility of shear walls with concentrated confinement zone such as barbell-type walls, the ultimate strength of the confinement zone needs to be increased, and for shear walls with distributed confinement zone the length of the confinement zone needs to be extended.
This paper focuses on the deformation behavior of tunnels crossing a weak zone in conventional tunneling. A three-dimensional finite element model was adopted that allows realistic modeling of the tunnel excavation and the support installation. Using the 3D FE model, a parametric study was conducted on a number of tunneling cases with emphasis on the spatial characteristics of the weak zone such as the strike and dip angle, and on the initial stress state. The results of the analyses were thoroughly examined so that the three-dimensional tunnel displacements at the tunnel crown and the sidewalls can be related to the spatial characteristic of the weak zone as well as the initial stress state. The results indicate that the effectiveness of the absolute displacement monitoring data as early warning indicators depends strongly on the spatial characteristics of the weak zone. It is also shown that proper interpretation of the absolute monitoring data can provide not only early warning for a weak zone outside the excavation area but also information on the orientation and the extent of the weak zone. Practical implications of the findings are discussed.
The smoke filling process for the atrium space containing a fire source is simulated using two types of deterministic fire model : Zone model and Field model. The zone model used is the CFAST(version 1.6) model developed at the Building and Fire Research Laboratories, NIST in the USA. The field model is a self-developed frie field model based on Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) theories. This article is focused on finding out the smoke movement and temperature distribution in atrium space which is cubic in shape. For solving the liked set of velocity and pressure equation, the PISO algorithm, which strengthened the velocity-pressure coupling, was used. Since PISO algorithm is a time-marching procedure, computing time si very fast. A computational procedure for predicting velocity and temperature distribution in fire-induced flow is based on the solution, in finite volume method and non-staggered grid system, of 3-dimensional equations for the conservation of mass, momentum, energy, species and so forth. The fire model i.e Zone model and Field model predicted similar results for clear heights and the smoke layer temperature.
In this paper, the smoke filling process for the three types of atrium spaces are simulated u using the two types of deterministic fire model; zone models and field models. The zone models u used are the FffiST, CFAST, and CCFM.VENTS m떠els develo야퍼 at the Building and Fire R Research Laboratories, NIST, USA and the NBTC one-room model of FIR.ECAIι delveloped at C CSffiO, Austr;외ia. The field models used are the fire field model developed by W. K Chow and a a self-developed Sl\1EP(Smoke Movement Estimating Program) based on computational fluid d dynamics the$\alpha$1es. The results pn려icted by the two approaches are very similar. The field model u using SIl\1PLE algorithm or SIl\1PLER algorithm requires much more computing time compared w with the use of Sl\1EP using PISO algorithm.

As the structure is taller and its member is larger, the effect of the deformation of Panel zone on the displacement of structure becomes larger. The analysis using the centerline dimensions in the steel moment frame structure can not consider the accurate effect of panel ton And the finite element analysis using infinitesimal solid and shell element is impractical for the total tall building structure. Therefore, this paper proposes the analytical model using linear element in order to be able to evaluate the reasonable deformation of panel zone. the proposed analytical model makes the analysis of the building structure simple and ease because it uses the only linear elements. In addition it can easily incorporate the various parameters affecting the deformation of panel zone. In order to prove the validith of the prosed analytical model, the analysis result using the proposed analytical model is compared with the result using finite element analysis with shell element
The objective of this study is to propose the FE model for mechanical clinched joint using cohesive zone model to analyze its failure behavior under impact loading. Cohesive zone model (CZM) is two-parameter failure criteria approach, which could describe the failure behavior of joint using critical stress and fracture toughness. In this study, the relationship between failure behavior of mechanical clinched joint and fracture parameters is investigated by FE analysis with CZM. Using this relationship, the critical stress and fracture toughness for tensile and shear mode are determined by H-type tensile test and lap shear test, which were made of 5052 aluminum alloy. The fracture parameters were applied to the tophat impact test to evaluate the crashworthiness. Compared penetration depth and energy absorption at the point where 50% of total displacement in result of FE analysis and experiment test for impact test, those has shown similar crashworthiness.
A horizontal 2-D model which includes the wetting-drying treatment technique in the intertidal zone is applied for the prediction of tidal changes. The flow model is applied to Mokpo coastal zone and verified by measurement data. Comparing computation results with observed values for the M2 tidal constituent, agreeable correspondence is detected. The validity of the model is also proven by applying it to such areas which have narrow width and rapid velocity, irregular topography and complex geometry. Thus, this model can be used as the compatible prediction model for the tidal change and pollutant transport due to the development of Mokpo coastal zone.
This study considers zone-based registration (ZBR), which is adopted by most mobile cellular networks. In ZBR, a user equipment (UE) registers its location area (or zone) in a network database (DB) whenever it enters a new zone. Even though ZBR is implemented in most networks for a UE to keep only one zone (1ZR), it is also possible for a UE to keep multiple zones. Therefore, a ZBR with two zones (2ZR) is investigated, and some mathematical models for 2ZR are presented. With respect to ZBR with three zones (3ZR), several studies have been reported, but these employed computer simulations owing to the complexity of the cases, and there have been no reports on a mathematical 3ZR model to analyze its performance. In this study, we propose a new mathematical model for 3ZR for the first time, and analyze the performance of 3ZR using this model. The numerical results for various scenarios show that, as the UE frequently enters zones, the proposed 3ZR model outperforms 1ZR and 2ZR. Our results help determine the optimal number of zones that a UE keeps, and minimize the signaling cost for radio channels in mobile cellular networks.
