수열반응에 의한 나노 지르코니아 분말의 합성 및 결정화 (Synthesis and crystallization of nanosized zirconia powder using hydrothermal process)

  • $ZrOCl_2{\cdot}8H_2O$ 수용액과 KOH 수용액의 반응으로부터 얻은 침전물을 $100^{\circ}C$에서 24 시간 동안 숙성시켜 정방정상 지르코니아를 제조한 후 수열합성 조건을 변화시킴으로써 비등방성 형상의 나노 결정형 지르코니아 분말을 합성하였다. 수열합성 시 반응온도와 반응시간이 증가할수록 정방정상인 구형 입자는 감소하고 상대적으로 단사정상 spindle-like 입자와 막대상 입자가 증가하였다. NaOH 용액의 농도가 증가함에 따라 입성장과 함께 정방정상에서 단사정상으로의 상전이가 촉진되었으며, 저온에서 반응시간이 짧은 경우 합성한 분말들은 반응초기에 응집된 입자들이 NaOH 용액에 부분적으로 용해되면서 응집입자 및 결정입자 크기가 감소되어 비표면적이 증가하였다가 반응시간이 길어지고 반응온도가 높아짐에 따라 입성장에 의하여 점차 비표면적이 감소하였다.

  • Zirconia coated NiO powders were prepared by the thermal hydrolysis of $Zro(NO_3)_2$.$6H_2O$ in a mixed solvent of alcohol and water. Amorphous zirconium hydroxide was uniformly coated on the surface of NiO powder with the thickness of 20nm. The $ZrO_2$ coating layer was crystallized to tetragonal $ZrO_2$ with the size of 40-60nm at $900^{\circ}C$. The coated NiO powder containing 15 vol% $ZrO_2$ was found to have a similar isoelectric point to that of the $ZrO_2$ The grain growth inhibition effect of the coated powders was superior to the mechanically mixed powders.

냉간압축 하에서 지르코니아 분말이 혼합된 알루미늄합금 분말의 치밀화 거동 (Densification Behavior of Aluminum Alloy Powder Mixed with Zirconia Powder Inclusion Under Cold Compaction)

  • Densification behavior of composite powders was investigated during cold compaction. Experimental data were obtained for aluminum alloy powder mixed with zirconia powder inclusion under triaxial compression. The Cap model with constraint factors was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to simulate compaction responses of composite powders during cold compaction. Finite element results were compared with experimental data for densification behavior of composite powders under cold isostatic pressing and die compaction. The agreements between experimental data and finite element calculations from the Cap model with constraint factors were good.

  • Milling media of steel and zirconia were used to produce $MoSi_2$ by mechanical alloying (MA) of Mo and Si powders. The effect of milling media on MA of Mo-65.8at%Si powder mixture has been investigated by SEM, XRD, DTh and in-situ thermal analysis. The powders mechanically alloyed by milling medium of steel for 8 hours showed the structure of fine mixture of Mo and Si, and those mechanically alloyed by milling medium of zirconia for longer milling time showed the structure of fine mixture of Mo and Si. The tetragonal $\alpha$-$MoSi_2$ Phase and the tetragonal $Mo_5Si_3$ phase appeared with small Mo peaks in the powders milled by milling medium of steel for 4 and 8 hours. The $\alpha$-$MoSi_2$ phase and the hexagonal $\beta$-$MoSi_2$ phase were formed after longer milling time. The $\alpha$-$MoSi_2$ phase appeared with large Mo peaks in the powders milled by milling medium of zirconia for 4 hours. The phases, $\alpha$-$MoSi_2$ and $\beta$-$MoSi_2$. were formed in the powders milled for longer milling time. DTA and annealing results showed that Mo and Si were transformed into $\alpha$-$MoSi_2$ and $Mo_5Si_3$, while $\beta$-$MoSi_2$ into $\alpha$-$MoSi_2$. In-situ thermal analysis results demonstrated that there were a sudden temperature rise at 212 min and a gradual increase in temperature in case of milling media of steel and zirconia, respectively. The results indicate that MA can be influenced by materials of milling medium which can give either impact energy on powders or thermal energy accumulated in vial.

  • In the present study adding hydroxypropyl celluose as dispersant to the ethanol solution of Zr-butoxide prior to starting the hydrolysis reaction, spherical and submicrometer sized hydrated zirconia powders were synthesized successfully. But syntesized hydrated zirconia powders were soluble considerably in ethanol used as washing medium. Washing once the powder with plenty amount of water after washing thrice it with acetone, reaction mother solution remained between the particles was effectively removed and the particles were converted to insoluble state to ethanol at the same time. As a result of such washing processes it was able to prevent the formation of polydispersed, agglomerated and multiplet particles almost always even when such concentrated solutions of Zr-n-butoxide as 0.5 M were hydrolyzed.

  • Transient liquid phase processing was investigated to decrease processing temperatures while maintaining useful piezoelectric properties in the lead zirconate titanate (PZT) system. Niobium oxide$(Nb_2O_5)$ modified crystalline PZT (PZTN) powder was combined with lead silicate $(PS; PbO-SiO_2)$ glass powder and crystalline titania, zirconia, and niobia. Firing above the melting temperature of the lead silicate $(PS; Tm \risingdotseq\; 714^{\circk}C)$ resulted in liquid phase densification of the PZTN followed by dissolution of the titania, zirconia, and niobia into the liquid phase, and crystallization of additional PZTN. The addition of crystalline titania, zirconia, and niobia to react with the lead oxide from the lead silicate phase resulted in an increase in the dielectric and Piezoelectric properties.

  • Calcium-hexaluminate phase $(CA_6)$ is known to be effective for the crack shielding due to the spinel block crystal structure. In this study, we focused to the control of $CA_6$ morphology for good damage tolerance behavior in alumina and zirconia/calcium-hexaluminate $(CA_6)$ composites. Calcium-hexaluminate $(CA_6)$ composites were prepared from zirconia, alumina and calcium carbornate powders. Calcium-hexaluminate $(CA_6)$ phase was obtained by the solid reaction through the formation of intermediate phase $(CA_2)$. $CA_6$ phase showed the column type abnormal grain grown behavior composed of small blocks. Due to the typical microstructure of $CA_6$, alumina and zirconia/calcium-hexaluminate composites provide a well controlled crack propagation behavior.

지르코니아 블록 폐기물을 이용한 싱글코어의 제조법 (Production of Single Core with Waste Zirconia Block)

  • Purpose: Waste parts of zirconia blocks and powders were remained after CAD/CAM process. In order to make these residual zirconia fit for practical use, zirconia single cores were produced by drain casting process. Methods: Remained zirconia blocks were reduced to powders with zirconia mortar, and screened with 180 mesh sieve. Zirconia slip was prepared from waste parts of zirconia by ball milling. Plaster molds for forming cores by slip casting were also prepared. Formed cores were removed from mold after partial drying. Dried cores were biscuit fired at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 1hour. Biscuit fired cores were treated with tools to control the fitness and thickness. Finished cores were $2^{nd}$ fired at $1,500^{\circ}C$ for 1hour. Microstructure of cross section of core was observed by SEM. Results: When mill pot was filled with 100g of zirconia and alumina mixed powder, 300g of zirconia ball, and 180g of distilled water, the optimum slip for drain casting was obtained. Gypsum plaster for ceramic forming was more suitable then yellow stone plaster for casting process. SEM photograph showed the microstructure of fully dense with uniform grain size of zirconia and well dispersed alumina grains into the zirconia matrix. Conclusion: Zirconia single cores were produced by drain casting process. Drain casting is useful process to make these residual zirconia fit for practical use. Further study will be focused on the preparation of the bridge type cores by casting.

Modification of Yttrium-Stabilized Zirconia Ceramics Using Calcium Phosphate

  • A biomimetic approach was applied for the chemical deposition of calcium phosphate (CaP) coatings on 3 mole% yttrium-stabilized zirconia [3YSZ] powders. The solid-state reaction of 3YSZ powders with the addition of CaP was investigated for the development of biodegradable zirconia ceramics. The solid-state interaction between the 3YSZ matrix powders and the CaP additives differed from the behavior of commercial zirconia matrix powders. The 3YSZ powders were chemically reacted with precursors for the CaP formation. 3YSZ powders were mixed in an aqueous solution of Ca-P precursors and the CaP was precipitated on the surface of the 3YSZ matrix powders. The CaP-doped YSZ powders were calcined at $1100^{\circ}C$ and shaped powder blocks were then fired at $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The CaP phase formation was investigated using FE-SEM and XRD analysis.

지르코니아$(ZrO_2)$ 분말을 이용한 시계케이스의 세라믹 사출성형 (Ceramic injection molding of the watch case composed by zirconia$(ZrO_2)$ powder)

  • This study has focused on manufacturing technique of powder injection molding of watch case which made from zirconia powder. A series of computer simulation process was applied to prediction of the flow pattern in the inside of the mould and defects as weld line. The material properties of melted feedstock inclusive of the PVT graph and thermal viscosity flowage properties were measured for obtaining the input data in computer simulation. Also, molding experiment was conducted and the results of experiment showed that good agreement with simulation results far flow pattern and weld line location. On the other hand, gravity and inertia effect have an influence on velocity of melt front because of high density of ceramic powder particles in powder injection molding against the polymer injection molding process. In the experiment, the position of melt front was compared with upper gate and lower gate position. The gravity and inertia effect could be confirmed in the experimental results.
