Zinc Borosilicate Thick Films as a Ag-Protective Layer for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

  • A zinc borosilicate glass having a low softening temperature of $490^{\circ}C$ has been investigated as a protective layer for Ag patterns against chemical reactions with a $I^-/I_3^-$ electrolyte in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). A thick glass layer was prepared by the typical screen printing and firing processes to obtain a final thickness of ${\sim}5{\mu}m$. The chemical leaching performance of the glass layer in the electrolyte revealed that the reactive Ag pattern can be significantly protected by utilizing the low softening protective layer. The electrical resistance of the FTO-coated glass substrate was effectively maintained at a low value of ${\sim}27{\Omega}$ as long as the glass layer was well densified at a sufficiently high temperature of ${\sim}520^{\circ}C$. The transmittance of the layer was near 60%, depending on the firing temperature of the glass layer.

  • The low temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of ceramic/glass composites which were composed of ceramics in the $Bi_2(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_2O_7$ and zinc borosilicate glass/bismuth-zinc borosilicate glass were investigated with a view to applying the microwave dielectrics to low temperature co-fired ceramics. The $Bi_2(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_2O_7$ addition of 5 wt% ZBS and BZBS glass ensured a successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. In addition, pyrochlore phase was observed in the all composition. $Bi_2(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_2O_7$ with 5 wt% BZBS glasss demonstrated 70 as the dielectric constant ($\varepsilon_r$), 2,500 GHz as the Q$\times$f value, and -40 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ as TCF.

Zinc borosilicate 유리의 CaO 첨가에 따른 항균력 개선 효과 검증 (Effect of CaO on the antibacterial property of zinc borosilicate glasses)

  • 본 연구에서는 ZnO-Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 계 유리에 CaO의 첨가에 따른 유리의 열적, 화학적 특성, 표면 제타전위 및 항균특성을 분석하였다. 유리 조성에 따른 열적 특성은 DTA 분석을 통해 확인하였고, 30ZnO-xCaO-20Na2O-30B2O3-(20-x)SiO2 (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 mol%)계 유리에서 CaO 함량이 증가함에 따라 유리전이온도가 줄어드는 것을 확인하였다. CaO 함량이 늘어날수록 유리 구조가 약화됨에 따라 더 많은 Zn2+ 이온이 용출되었고, 알칼리 및 알칼리 토류의 초기 급속한 용출로 인해 유리의 표면 제타전위가 증가함을 확인하였다. 이러한 이유로 유리의 항균활성 또한 급격하게 개선됨을 확인하였으며, 대장균(gram negative)과 황색포도상구균(gram positive) 모두에 대해 99.9 % 항균 활성을 갖는 항균 유리를 개발할 수 있었다.

  • $BiNbO_4$ ceramics were sintered under the presence of zinc-borosilicate(ZBS) glass and resultant microwave dielectric properties were investigated with a view to applying the composition to LTCC technology. The addition of 5~20 wt% ZBS glass ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. In general, increased addition of ZBS glass increased sinterability and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(${\tau}_f$), but it decreased the dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$) and quality factor($Q{\times}f_0$) significantly due to the formation of an excessive liquid. The sintered $BiNbO_4$ ceramics at $900^{\circ}C$ with 15 wt% ZBS glass demonstrated 25 in dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}_r$), 3,700 in quality factor($Q{\times}f_0$), and -32 $ppm/{\circ}C$ in temperature coefficient of resonant frequency(${\tau}_f$).

Low Temperature Sintering and Dielectric Properties of BiNbO4 and ZnNb2O6 Ceramics with Zinc Borosilicate Glass

  • Low temperature sintering behavior and microwave dielectric properties of the $BiNbO_{4^-}$ and the $ZnNb_2O_{6^-}zinc$ borosilicate glass(ZBS) systems were investigated with a view to applying the composition to LTCC technology. The addition of $10{\sim}30$ wt% ZBS in both systems ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. For the $BiNbO_{4^-}ZBS$ system, the sintering was completed when 15 wt% ZBS was added whereas 25 wt% ZBS was necessary for the $ZnNb_2O_{6^-}zinc$ system. Secondary phase was not observed in the $BiNbO_{4^-}ZBS$ system but a small amount of $ZnNb_2O_6$ with the willemite structure as the secondary phase was observed in the $ZnNb_2O_{6^-}ZBS$ system. In terms of dielectric properties, the application of the $BiNbO_{4^-}$ and the $ZnNb_2O_{6^-}ZBS$ systems sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ to LTCC were shown to be appropriate; $BiNbO_{4^-}15$ wt% ZBS($\varepsilon_r=25,\;Q{\times}f\;value=3,700GHz,\;\tau_f=-32ppm/^{\circ}C$) and $ZnNb_2O_{6^-}25$ wt% ZBS($\varepsilon_r=15.8,\;Q{\times}f\;value=5,400GHz,\;\tau_f=-98ppm/^{\circ}C$).

저온소결용 $ZnAl_2O_4$ 세라믹스의 합성 및 유전 특성 (Synthesis and dielectric properties of the $ZnAl_2O_4$ ceramics for low-firing)

  • Synthesis and dielectric properties of glass-ceramic composites with zinc borosilicate glass(here after ZBS glass) were investigated as functions of $ZnAl_2O_4$ phase synthesis method, glass addition (50~60 vol%) and sintering temperature ($600{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs). The 50 vol% ZBS glass-$Al_2O_3$ and 60 vol% ZBS glass-$ZnAl_2O_4$ ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. But the composition of 100-x-y vol% ZBS glass-x vol% $Al_2O_3-y$ vol% ZnO exhibited poor sinterability below $900^{\circ}C$ and the swelling phenomenon occurred in this composite with the large amount of ZBS glass. The sintering behavior of Glass-ceramic composites was affected by the crystallization of $ZnAl_2O_4$ which was formed by the reaction between ZBS glass and $Al_2O_3$. Dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$), $Q{\times}f$ value and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (${\tau}_f$) of the composite with 50 and 60 vol% ZBS glass contents demonstrated $ZBS-Al_2O_3({\varepsilon}_r=5.7)$, $ZBS-ZnAl_2O_4({\varepsilon}_r=5.8)$ which is applicable to substrate requiring an low dielectric properties.

  • Etch rate, surface roughness and microstructure as plasma resistance were evaluated for six kinds of oxide glass with different compositions. Borosilicate glass (BS) was found to be etched at the highest etch rate and zinc aluminum phosphate glass (ZAP) showed a relatively lower etch rate than borosilicate. On the other hand, the etching rate of calcium aluminosilicate glass (CAS) was measured to be similar to that of sintered alumina while yttrium aluminosilicate glass (YAS) showed the lowest etch rate. Such different etch rates by mixture plasma as a function of glass compositions was dependent on whether or not fluoride compounds were formed on glass and sublimated in high vacuum. Especially, in view that $CaF_2$ and $YF_3$ with high sublimation points were formed on the surface of CAS and YAS glasses, both CAS and YAS glasses were considered to be a good candidate for protective coating materials on the damaged polycrystalline ceramics parts in semi-conductor and display processes.

고상소결에 의한 방사성 희토류산화물의 고화 (Immobilization of Radioactive Rare Earth oxide Waste by Solid Phase Sintering)

  • Pyroprocessing에 의한 사용후핵연료 처리 과정에서 방사성 희토류 염화물이 포함된 폐용융염이 발생된다. 이러한 폐 용융염 내에 존재하는 방사성 희토류 염화물을 산화물로 침전시켜 회수함으로서 용융염을 재생할 수 있다. 최종적으로 발생되는 방사성 희토류 산화물의 저장과 처분에 적합한 monolithic 고화체를 제조하기 위한 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 고상 소결에 의해 붕규산 유리에 의한 고화체 제조, 희토류 산화물을 모나자이트로 합성한 후 붕규산 유리에 의한 고화체 제조를 수행하였다. 또한 zinc titanate 세라믹이 주요성분인 고화 매질(ZIT)을 개발하여 고화체를 제조하였으며 각각의 고화체에 대한 침출 및 물리화학적 특성을 비교 평가하였다. 고상 소결에 의해 제조된 ZIT 매질 고화체는 내 침출성이 크며 밀도가 크고 열전도도가 우수한 특성을 나타내었다.

  • In the present work, we have studied low temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of $ZnAl_2O_4$-zinc borosilicate (ZBS, 65ZnO-$25B_2O_3-10SiO_2$) glass composites. The focus of this paper was on the improvement of sinterability, low dielectric constant, and on the theoretical proof regarding of microwave dielectric properties in $ZnAl_2O_4$-ZBS glass composites, respectively. The $ZnAl_2O_4$ with 60 vo1% ZBS glass ensured successful sintering below $900^{\circ}C$. It is considered that the non-reactive liquid phase sintering (NPLS) occurred. In addition, $ZnAl_2O_4$ was observed in the $ZnAl_2O_4$-(x)ZBS composites, indicating that there were no reactions between $ZnAl_2O_4$ and ZBS glass. $ZnB_2O_4\;and\;Zn_2SiO_4$ with the willemite structure as the secondary phase was observed in the all $ZnAl_2O_4$-(x)ZBScomposites. In terms of dielectric properties, the application of the $ZnAl_2O_4$-(x)ZBS composites sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ to LTCC substrate were shown to be appropriate; $ZnAl_2O_4$-60ZBS (${\varepsilon}_r$= 6.7, $Q{\times}f$ value= 13,000 GHz, ${\tau}_f$= -30 ppm/$^{\circ}C$). Also, in this work was possible theoretical proof regarding of microwave dielectric properties in $ZnAl_2O_4$-(x)ZBS composites.

  • LTCC(low temperature co-fired ceramics)용 glass/ceramic 복합체를 제조하기 위해 3종류 의 glass를 선정하고 filler로 $Al_2O_3$$TiO_2$를 사용하여 glass frit에 따른 소결 및 유전 특성에 대하여 조사하였다. Glass frit은 lead-borosilicate(PBS), zinc-borosilicate(ZBS), bismuth-borosilicate(BBS) glass 조성을 사용하였고 1100~$1400^{\circ}C$에서 melting시킨 후 quenching하여 frit화하였다. $Al_2O_3$$TiO_2$ filler에 10~50 vol%로 glass frit을 각각 혼합한 후 600~$950^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 소결한 결과 50 vol% glass frit 일 때 $900^{\circ}C$ 이하에서 소성이 가능하였다. 유전특성은 $900^{\circ}C$에서 $Al_2O_3$-50vol%PBS($\varepsilon_{r}$=8.8, $Q{\times}f_o$=4,900, $\tau_f$=-24), $Al_2O_3$-50vol% ZBS($\varepsilon_{r}$=5.7, $Q{\times}f_o$=17,800, $\tau_f$=-21), $Al_2O_3$-50vol%BBS($\varepsilon_{r}$=11.1, $Q{\times}f_o$= 2,080, $\tau_f$=-48), $TiO_2$-50vol%PBS($\varepsilon_{r}$=18.6, $Q{\times}f_o$=3,800, $\tau_f$=+135), $TiO_2$-50vol%ZBS($\varepsilon_{r}$=36.4, $Q{\times}f_o$= 7,500, $\tau_f$=+159), $TiO_2$-50vol%BBS($\varepsilon_{r}$=56.4, $Q{\times}f_o$=520, $\tau_f$=+119)을 나타내었다. 따라서 LTCC용 기판재료 및 마이크로파 유전체로 응용이 가능한 것으로 확인되었다.
