Atmospheric Corrosion Behavior of Carbon Steel by the Outdoor Exposure Test for 10 Years in Korea

  • Steel was exposed in an atmospheric environment, and atmospheric environmental factors that include chloride, humidity, SO2, NO2 etc. induced the corrosion of steel. Corrosivity categories classified by SO2 and chloride deposition rate were low, but those classified by TOW were high in the Korean Peninsula, and on these environmental categories, the corrosivity of atmospheres classified by corrosion rate in carbon steel was low medium, C2-C3, and medium, C3 for zinc, copper, and aluminum. This work performed the outdoor exposure test for 10 years at 14 areas in Korea and calculated the atmospheric corrosion rate of carbon steel. The atmospheric corrosion behavior of carbon steel is discussed based on the various corrosion factors. When the corrosion product forms on carbon steel by atmospheric corrosion, cracks may also be formed, and through these cracks, the environmental factors can penetrate into the interior of the product, detach some of the corrosion products and finally corrode locally. Thus, the maximum corrosion rate was about 7.3 times greater than the average corrosion rate. The color difference and glossiness of carbon steel by the 10 year-outdoor exposure tests are discussed based on the corrosion rate and the environmental factors.

Cadmium에 의한 흰쥐의 간장 및 신장의 Metallothionein 변화와 방어효과 (Metallothionein Induction and Its Protective Effect in Liver and Kidney of Rats Exposed to Cadmium Chloride)

  • Tolerance to several toxic effects of cadmium, including lethality has been shown following pretreatment with cadmium and zinc. This study was designed to determine if tolerance also develops to Cd-induced hepatotoxicityandrenaltoxicity. Three groups of rats (A, B, C), each consisting of 16 rats, were studied and each group was divided into four subgroups (1, 2, 3, 4), 4 rats for each subgroup. Rats were subcutaneously pretreated with saline (A), $CdCl_2$ (0.5 mg/kg, B), and $ZnCl_2$ (13.0 mg/kg, C) during time periods of $1{\sim}6$ weeks. At the end of the period, rats were challenged with $CdCl_2$ (3.0, 6.0 and 9.0 mg/kg, ip). After giving the challenge dose, cadmium and metallothionein (MT) concentrations were determined and also observed the histologic change in liver and kidney. The concentration of cadmium in liver and kidney increased dose-dependently to the challenge dosage. These da indicate the kidney is a major target organ of chronic cadmium poisoning, and suggest that cadmium induced hepatic injury, via release of Cd-MT, may play an important role in the nephrotoxicity observed in response to long-term exposure to cadmium. In addition, histologic examination of group $A_2,\;A_3\;and\;A_4$ revealed moderate to severe cadmium toxicity, evidenced by infiltration of inflammatory cells, cell swelling, pyknosis, enlarged sinusoids and necrosis in liver, and tubule cell necrosis and degeneration in kidney. However, MT concentrations in liver and kidney were increased by the pretreatment of $CdCl_2$ and $ZnCl_2$, and their morphological findings were not significantly changed, comparing with control group. Higher MT concentration in liver and kidney observed in the pretreated groups constitutes a plausible explanation of the protective effects of pretreatment against the cadmium toxicity after challenge dosing.

에칭 폐액으로부터 용매추출과 가수분해를 이용한 니켈분말제조에 관한 연구 (Recovery of Nickel from Waste Iron-Nickel Alloy Etchant and Fabrication of Nickel Powder)

  • 여러 금속 부품을 가공하기 위하여 사용된 염화제이철 에칭 폐액은 유가금속인 니켈 등을 함유하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 식각공정을 완료한 에칭폐액을 재생하고 부산물로 나온 니켈 함유 폐액으로부터 정제하여 니켈 금속분말로 제조하는 공정을 개발하였다. 부산물인 니켈함유용액을 철 등의 불순물을 침전 제거하기 위하여 수산화나트륨 수용액을 실험을 통하여 가수분해 중화제로서 선정하였고, 이를 통하여 철 등의 불순물을 pH = 4 조건하에 침전 제거하였다. 그 후, 불순물로 잔류하는 망간 및 아연과 같은 금속이온들을 D2EHPA (Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid)를 사용하여 용매추출 하였다. 정제된 염화니켈은 99% 이상의 순도를 가지고 있으며, 그 후 환원제로 하이드라진을 이용하여 99% 이상의 순도와 약 150 nm의 크기를 가지는 니켈 금속분말로 제조하였다. 염화니켈 및 니켈 금속분말의 성분은 EDTA 적정법과 유도결합 플라즈마 방출분광법(inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer, ICP-OES)을 이용하여 확인하였으며, 전계방사 주사전자현미경(field emission scanning electron microscope, FE-SEM), X-선 회절분석기(X-ray diffraction, XRD) 및 투과전자현미경(transmission electron microscopy, TEM)을 통하여 금속분말의 형태, 입자 크기 및 결정성과 같은 물리적 특성을 확인하였다.

  • 대만의 제강생산량은 21,290천톤이고, 전기로제강량은 제강생산량의 약 반, 즉 11,200천톤이다. 그리고 이 전기로 제강시 발생되는 더스트량은 160천톤(2009년도)이다. Walcz 프로세스(탄소강 EAF 더스트)에서 약 70천톤, RHF/SAF 프로세스(스테인레스강 EAF 더스트)에서 약 60천톤을 처리하고 있다. 그리고 약 90천톤/년의 조산화아연(ZnO)이 생산되고 있는 것으로 추정된다. 현재 새로운 EAF 더스트 리싸이클링법이 개발되고 있고, 조산화아연의 품위향상이 앞으로 과제이다.

국내 담수새우인 새뱅이 (Neocardina denticulata)를 이용한 중금속의 급성독성시험 (Acute Toxicity Test of Heavy Metals Using Korean Freshwater Shrimp, Neocardina denticulata)

  • Indigenous species means a species that is likely, due to historical presence, to occur at a specified site for some portion of its life span. Therefore, indigenous species can be useful as an indicator to assess environmental risk caused by hazardous chemicals in a specific site. So far a few toxicity studies using freshwater species which are indigenous to Korea have been carried out. In this study, a freshwater shrimp (Neocardina denticulata) indigenous to Korea was used for acute toxicity test of heavy metals. Neocardina denticulata were exposed to cadmium chloride $(CdCl_2)$, copper chloride $(CuCl_2)$ and zinc chloride $(ZnCl_2)$ using automatic flow-through system for 96 hours. The 96h LC50s were calculated as 0.043 $(0.042{\sim}0.045)mg\;CdCl_2/L,\;0.104(0.098{\sim}0.113)mg\; CuCl_2/L\;and\;2.021\;(1.633{\sim}2.594)mg\;ZnCl_2/L$. When compaired with some international standard species such as medaka(Oryzias latipes), Neocardina denticulata had high sensitivity. Therefore, this study suggested that Neocardina denticulata have possibilities for a sensitive test species to test heavy metal toxicity in aqua-system.

Optimization of Laccase Production from Bacillus sp. PK4 through Statistical Design of Experiments

  • Statistical design of experiments was employed to optimize the media composition for the production of laccase from Bacillus sp. PK4. In order to find the key ingredients for the best yield of enzyme production from the selected eleven variables viz yeast extract, glucose, zinc sulphate, copper sulphate, potassium chloride, magnesium sulphate, calcium chloride, ferrous sulphate, sodium chloride, potassium dihydrogen phosphate ($KH_2PO_4$) and dipotassium hydrogen phosphate ($K_2HPO_4$), Plackett-Burman design was applied. The $MgSO_4$, $FeSO_4$, and $CuSO_4$ showed positive estimate, and their concentration optimized further. The steepest ascent method and Box-Behnken method revealed that 1.5 mM $MgSO_4$, 0.33 g/l $FeSO_4$ and 1.41 mM $CuSO_4$ were optimal for the laccase production by Bacillus sp. PK4. This optimization strategy leads to enhancement of laccase production from 2.13 U/ml to 40.79 U/ml. Agro-wastes residues replace the carbon source glucose in the optimized media namely sugarcane bagasse, wheat bran, rice husk, and groundnut shell, among these groundnut shells (117 U/ml) was found to enhance the laccase production significantly. The laccase produced by Bacillus sp. PK4 was found to have the potential to degrade persistent organic pollutant benzo[a]pyrene.

  • 강의 부식을 방지하기 위해서 희생양극의 원리를 이용한 아연도금이 사용된다. 순수아연도금은 몇가지 문제점을 가지고 있어 얇으면서 내식성을 증가시키기 위한 방안의 하나로 Zn-Mn 합금도금이 연구되어지고 있다. Zn-Mn 합금도금은 도금 단가가 높음에도 불구하고 고내식성을 요구하는 자동차 부품 등에 적용이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 산성 염화용액에서 Zn-Mn 합금도금을 전착하였다. 이때 염화욕에서 합금도금의 조성에 미치는 전해조건의 영향을 조사하였다. 전류밀도가 증가함에 따라 Zn함량이 감소하고 Mn함량은 증가하였다. 전해액의 온도가 증가함에 따라 Zn함량이 감소하고 Mn함량은 증가하였으며, 음극 분극곡선을 가지고 결과를 설명하였다.

Study on Tribo-chemistry Properties of Some Additives on Base Oils of Friendly Environmentally Lubricants

  • The tribological characteristic of several environmentally friendly lubricating base stocks was examined, and the effect of some commonly used additives on th tribological behavior of the lubricating oils was comparatively investigated on a four-ball machine. It has been found that the commercial additives including butene sulfide, wax chloride, zinc dialkyldithiophosphate and ashless P-N type agent helped to improve the friction-reducing and antiwear properties as well as the extreme pressure behavior. Non-toxic nanoscale $(CF)_x$ showed the best friction-reducing ability, though it registered relatively poor extreme pressure properties. The mechanism on friction of nano-scale material is discussed.

  • ZnO는 수열합성법을 사용하여 저비용으로 일차원 형태의 잘 정렬된 nanowire의 제작이 가능하며 높은 화학적, 열적 안정성을 가져 전계 방출 소자로써 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 수열합성법에 사용되는 ZnO 전구체(Zinc Nitrate, HMTA, PEI & Ammonium Chloride), 안정제(Ethanolamine)의 농도에 따른 ZnO의 형상 변화와 이에 따른 전계방출 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 전구체의 농도 변화에 따라 ZnO Film, Rod, Tip과 같은 형상 변화를 확인 할 수 있었으며, 안정제를 사용함으로써 고종횡비를 가지는 ZnO Tip을 제작하였다. 제작된 ZnO 에미터의 전계방출특성을 고진공 챔버에서 측정하였고, 에미터 형상이 전계방출에 미치는 영향을 비교 분석하였다.
