A simple nonlinear programming(NLP) formulation for the optimal topology problem of structures is developed and examined. The NLP formulation is general, and can handle arbitrary objective functions and arbitrary stress, displacement constraints under multiple loading conditions. The formulation is based on simultaneous analysis and design approach to avoid stiffness matrix singularity resulting from zero sizing variables. By embedding the equilibrium equations as equality constraints in the nonlinear programming problem, we avoid constructing and factoring a system stiffness matrix, and hence avoid its singularity. The examples demonstrate that the formulation is effective for finding an optimal solution, and shown to be robust under a variety of constraints.
Observer-based fault detection and isolation (FDI) filter design method is a model-based method. By carefully choosing the observer gain, the residual outputs can be projected onto different independent subspaces. Each subspace corresponds to the monitored structural element so that the projected residual will be nonzero when the associated structural element is damaged and zero when there is no damage. The key point of detection filter design is how to find an appropriate observer gain. This problem can be interpreted in a geometric framework and is found to be equivalent to the problem of finding a decentralized static output feedback gain. But, it is still a challenging task to find the decentralized controller by either analytical or numerical methods because its solution set is, generally, non-convex. In this paper, the concept of detection filter and iterative LMI technique for decentralized controller design are combined to develop an algorithm to compute the observer gain. It can be used to monitor structural element state: healthy or damaged. The simulation results show that the developed method can successfully identify structural damages.

In this paper the optimum position of optical phase conjugator (OPC) and the optimal dispersion coefficients of filler sections in WDM system with the conventional mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) are numerically induced and then applied into $16{\times}40$ Gbps WDM systems with 1,000km non zero - dispersion shifted fiber(NZ-DSF) in order to efficiently compensate for the distorted overall channels. It is confirmed that the compensation extents of overall WDM channels are more improved by applying the induced optimal parameters into WDM system than those in WDM system with the conventional MSSI. So it is expected to alternate with the forming method of the symmetrical distributions of power and local dispersion by applying these optimal parameters into the real WDM system, which generate a serious problem of applying the OPC into multi-channels WDM system if it is not formed. It is also confirmed that two optimal parameters depend on each other, but less related with the finding procedure. And, it will be possible to realize the flexible system design by applying the methods proposed in this paper into the real WDM system with OPC.
The goal of this study is to recommend a new type of stage-discharge rating curve ($Q=p(h-e)^{\beta}-{\gamma}$) useful for satisfying divergence, and one other seemingly irresolvable problem related to exited rating curves, while also extending this rating curve model. The problem of divergence is that during the finding of the CZF (cease-to-zero flow) parameter e and while minimizing the sum of total errors of the estimated curve, the exponential parameter ${\beta}$ become an abnormally large value. The insoluble problem is that when the value e is greater then the recorded minimum at the gauged stage, it is impossible to have a negative logarithm value (h-e). The two problems above can be satisfied by adapting the control value ${\gamma}$, which affects the reduction of ${\gamma}$ and gives us the possibility of controlling (h-e) over zero. The study results show that the effects of parameter ${\gamma}$ are very similar to that of e when conducting physical and sensitivity analyses. This system can be used towards developing a new stage-discharge rating curve for river discharge, for use in evaluating the acceptability of existing stage-discharge rating curves generated by using hydrologic analyses at all stations.
Given the recent surge of interest towards utilization of renewable distributed energy resources (DER), in particular in remote areas, this paper aims at designing an optimal hybrid system in order to supply loads of a village located in Esfarayen, North Khorasan, Iran. This paper illustrates the optimal design procedure of a standalone hybrid system which consists of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG), Photo Voltaic (PV), Diesel-generator, and Battery denoting as the Energy Storage System (ESS). The WTGs and PVs are considered as the main producers since the site's ambient conditions are suitable for such producers. Moreover, batteries are employed to smooth out the variable outputs of these renewable resources. To this end, whenever the available power generation is higher than the demanded amount, the excess energy will be stored in ESS to be injected into the system in the time of insufficient power generation. Since the standalone system is assumed to have no connection to the upstream network, it must be able to supply the loads without any load curtailment. In this regard, a Diesel-Generator can also be integrated to achieve zero loss of load. The optimal hybrid system design problem is a discrete optimization problem that is solved, here, by means of a recently-introduced meta-heuristic optimization algorithm known as Lightning Attachment Procedure Optimization (LAPO). The results are compared to those of some other methods and discussed in detail. The results also show that the total cost of the designed stand-alone system in 25 years is around 92M€ which is much less than the grid-connected system with the total cost of 205M€. In summary, the obtained simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the utilized optimization algorithm in finding the best results, and the designed hybrid system in serving the remote loads.

In this paper, we propose a method that represents a mathematical form of wave propagation by using the fact the refractive index determining wave propagation characteristic is a function of altitude. Proposed method uses Snell's law that expresses relationship between incident angle and refraction angle when incident wave passes medium having a different refractive index. We present the simulation results about wave propagation by setting the square of refractive index in the form of the polynomial for altitude and show that it is possible to estimate the coefficients of the polynomial through the angle information from vertical axis of multiple radar systems.

When a large sparse matrix is calculated for a horizontal geodetic network adjustment, it needs to go through the process of matrix reordering for the efficiency of time and space. In this study, several reordering methods for sparse matrix were tested, using Sparse Matrix Manipulation System(SMMS) program, total processing time and Fill-in number produced in factorization process were measured and compared. As a result, Minimum Degree(MD) and Mutiple Minimum Degree(MMD), which are based on Minimum Degree are better than Gibbs-Poole-Stockmeyer(GPS) and Reverse Cuthill-Mckee(RCM), which are based on Minimum Bandwidth. However, the method of the best efficiency can be changed dependent on distribution of non-zero elements in a matrix. This finding could be applied to heighten the efficiency of time and storage space for national datum readjustment and other large geodetic network adjustment.
The most common way to control a target point using artificial intelligence is through reinforcement learning. However, it had to process complicated calculations that were difficult to implement in order to process reinforcement learning. In this paper, the enhanced Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm was used to simulate finding the planned flight trajectory to reach the target point in the virtual environment. In this paper, we simulated how this problem was used to find the planned flight trajectory to reach the target point in the virtual environment using the enhanced Proximal Policy Optimization(PPO) algorithm. In addition, variables such as changes in trajectory, effects of rewards, and external winds are added to determine the zero conditions of external environmental factors on flight trajectory learning, and the effects on trajectory learning performance and learning speed are compared. From this result, the simulation results have shown that the agent can find the optimal trajectory in spite of changes in the various external environments, which will be applicable to the actual vehicle.

As automatic hacking tools and techniques have been improved, the number of new vulnerabilities has increased. The CVE registered from 2010 to 2015 numbered about 80,000, and it is expected that more vulnerabilities will be reported. In most cases, patching a vulnerability depends on the developers' capability, and most patching techniques are based on manual analysis, which requires nine months, on average. The techniques are composed of finding the vulnerability, conducting the analysis based on the source code, and writing new code for the patch. Zero-day is critical because the time gap between the first discovery and taking action is too long, as mentioned. To solve the problem, techniques for automatically detecting and analyzing software (SW) vulnerabilities have been proposed recently. Cyber Grand Challenge (CGC) held in 2016 was the first competition to create automatic defensive systems capable of reasoning over flaws in binary and formulating patches without experts' direct analysis. Darktrace and Cylance are similar projects for managing SW automatically with artificial intelligence and machine learning. Though many foreign commercial institutions and academies run their projects for automatic binary analysis, the domestic level of technology is much lower. This paper is to study developing automatic detection of SW vulnerabilities and defenses against them. We analyzed and compared relative works and tools as additional elements, and optimal techniques for automatic analysis are suggested.
