Using a level set method and topological derivatives, a topological shape optimization method that is independent of an initial design is developed for linearly elastic structures. In the level set method, the initial domain is kept fixed and its boundary is represented by an implicit moving boundary embedded in the level set function, which facilitates to handle complicated topological shape changes. The "Hamilton-Jacobi(H-J)" equation and computationally robust numerical technique of "up-wind scheme" lead the initial implicit boundary to an optimal one according to the normal velocity field while minimizing the objective function of compliance and satisfying the constraint of allowable volume. Based on the asymptotic regularization concept, the topological derivative is considered as the limit of shape derivative as the radius of hole approaches to zero. The required velocity field to update the H-J equation is determined from the descent direction of Lagrangian derived from optimality conditions. It turns out that the initial holes are not required to get the optimal result since the developed method can create holes whenever and wherever necessary using indicators obtained from the topological derivatives. It is demonstrated that the proper choice of control parameters for nucleation is crucial for efficient optimization process.
We have investigated the half-metallicity and magnetism for the Heusler ferromagnet $Co_2$ZrSi interfaced with semiconductor ZnTe along the (001) plane by using the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method. We considered low types of possible interfaces: ZrSi/Zn, ZrSi/Te, Co/Zn, and Co/Te, respectively. From the calculated density of states, it was found that the half-metallicity was lost at all the interfaces, however for the Co/Te system the value of minority spin density of states was close to zero at the Fermi level. These facts are due to the interface states, appeared in the minority spin gap in bulk $Co_2$ZrSi, caused by the changes of the coordination and symmetry and the hybridizations between the interface atoms. At the Co/Te interface, the magnetic moments of Co atoms are 0.68 and $0.78{\mu}_B$ for the "bridge" and "antibridge" sites, respectively, which are much reduced with respect to that ($1.15{\mu}_B$) of the bulk $Co_2$ZrSi. In the case of Co/Zn, Co atoms at the "bridge" and "antibridge" sites have magnetic moments of 1.16 and $0.93{\mu}_B$, respectively, which are almost same or slightly decreased compared to that of the bulk $Co_2$ZrSi. On the other hand, for the ZrSi/Zn and ZrSi/Te systems, the magnetic moments of Co atoms at the sub-interface layers are in the range of $1.13{\sim}1.30\;{\mu}_B$, which are almost same or slightly increased than that of the bulk $Co_2$ZrSi.
In recent years, explosive increase in population has been damaging mankind in terms of deprivation of natural resources and more of economical demands. Therefore, we have thought about problems as to counter-balance the increasing population, and reached a resolution of artificial methods of controlling birth. In the past, though now used in some of contraceptive methods, extravaginal ejaculation, condom were commonly used. But recently, pills, IUD and several kinds of operative procedures are quite popular. Though the recent methods are known to be effective compared with the traditional methods, a certain unwanted side effects as well as limited value of usages now must be discussed. On this aspect, we are trying to research for a ideal methods such as symptom free, more of natural way of family planning and try to zero the failure rate. And also it has been suggested that only if those scientific methods of controlling birth can be base on religious concepts of moral being, it will be enlightened. At the Happy Family Planning Clinic of St. Mary's Hospital, we apply Billing's ovulation method to out-patients who want contraception and usually advise them to use it on a self-care basis. For a retrospective study of the presurvey data analysis and use-effectiveness of the ovulation method from April 1, 1975 to Nov., 30, 1975, we have dealt with a total of 1,383 women (urban areas 465, rural areas 918). The results of preliminary survey were as follows; 1) Among 465 women in Seoul areas, the failure rate was 10.3, which signified unplanned pregnancies of 32 women. 27 of the 32 women were pregnant due to the users own failure and the remaing 5 due to the failure of the method. Therefore, the failure of the method accounted for 1.6. 2) Among 918 women in rural areas, the failure rate was 15.2 signifing unplanned pregnancies in 93 women. The cause of the failure in 81 of the 93 women was attributable to the user's own mistake and that in the remaing 12 to the default of the method. Therefore, the failure attributable to the method accounted for 2.0.

The Korean government is considering implementation of the marine ecosystem restoration technology program (MERTP) to analyze the current status of the marine ecosystems and causes for the ecosystem deterioration as well as to eventually establish a master strategic plan for restoring ecosystem functions and preventing ecosystem functional loss. In order to determine likelihood of successful implementation, it is essential to perform an analysis of the economic feasibility of the program. The present study assessed economic feasibility of the MERTP. To this end, the dichotomous choice contingent valuation (CV) method is used. In particular, dichotomous choice (DC) format is employed as a method of eliciting willingness-to-pay (WTP) response to incentive-compatible mechanisms. The study also employed the spike model to deal with zero WTP responses from the DC CV survey. This survey of 1,000 randomly selected households in accordance with the guidelines provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (USA) was carried out nationwide in 2013. And, the respondents were asked in person-to-person interviews about their WTP for implementing the MERTP. The results showed that the annual mean WTP was estimated to be 5,414 won per household. Consequently, the annual benefit from the MERTP would be about 98.6 billion won for the next five years. Economic feasibility assessment utilizing the MERTP investment cost and expansion cost of the value provided that net present value, benefit/cost ratio, and internal rate of return are 337.8 billion won, 5.20, and 65.9 %, respectively, which are bigger than 0, 1.0, and 5.5 %, and that the MERTP passes the cost-benefit analysis.
Ipriflavone (IP) stimulates proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast and also enhances calcitonin secretion in the presence of estrogen. Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLCA) due to its controllable biodegradability and relatively good biocompatibility is one of the most significant candidates for the study of drug controlled release system. In this study, IP-loaded PLGA microspheres (MSs) was prepared by using conventional O/W solvent evaporation method. The size of MSs was in the range of 5~200 $mu extrm{m}$. The morphology of MSs was characterized by SEM. And, in vitro release amounts of IP were analyzed by HPLC. The highest encapsulation efficiency were obtained by using gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as emulsifiers. The morphology, size distribution, and in vitro release pattern of MSs were changed by several preparation parameters such as molecular weights (8, 20, 33 and 90 kg/mol), polymer concentrations (2.5, 5, 10 and 20%), emulsifier types (PVA, gelatin and Tween 80), initial drug loading amount (5, 10, 20 and 30%) and stirring speed (250, 500 and 1000 rpm). The release of IP in vitro was more prolonged over 30 days, with close to zero-order pattern by controlling the preparation parameters. The physicochemical properties of IP-loaded PLGA MSs were investigated by XRD and DSC.

In this paper, we propose a microprocessor-based automatic voltage regulator(AVR) to reduce consumers' electric energy consumption and to help controlling peak demanding power. Hybrid Switching Automatic Voltage Regulator (HS-AVR) consist of a toroidal core, several tap control switches, display and command control parts. The coil forms an autotransformer which has a serial main winding and four parallel auxiliary windings. It controls the output voltage by changing the combination of the coils and the switches. Relays are adopted as the link switches of the coils to minimize the loss. To make connecting and disconnecting time accurate, relays of the circuit have parallel TRIACs. A software phase locked loop(PLL) has been used to synchronize the timings of the switches to the voltage waveform. The software PLL informs the input voltage zero-crossing and positive/negative peak timing. The traditional voltage transformers and AVRs have a disadvantage of having a large mandatory capacity to accommodate maximum inrush current to avoid the switch contact damage. But we propose a suitable AVR for every purpose in smart grid with reduced size and increased efficiency.
Snowmelt effect is identified from the analysis of the relationship between precipitation and groundwater level(GWL) data and Severe drawdown of GWL is observed in drought. Groundwater dam Operation Index (GOI), which is developed for the optimal operation of groundwater dam, is calculated by taking common logarithm of the moving average(MA) of precipitation data for a certain period. The period can vary from watershed to watershed because the period is decided by picking the maximum correlation coefficient between GWL and GOI of several MAs of precipitation. For Ssangchun watershed, the correlation was the strongest when we apply 70 day MA for GOI calculation. Snowmelt effect is considered by applying the temperature change by elevation($0.5^{\circ}C$ decrease per 100m) and examining the areal distribution of the watershed by elevation. Snow event is assumed when the daily average temperature is below $0^{\circ}C$ and snowmelt is assumed when the temperature is above zero degree Celsius. Total snowmelt is assumed for the day. When the snow event is occurred the precipitation data is separated into two components, snow and rainfall. The areal distribution by elevation is used for the calculation in the separation. The correlation between GWL and GOI is higher when we consider snowmelt effect than we neglected it.

In recent, the natural disaster like localized heavy rainfall due to the climate change is increasing. Therefore, it is important issue that the precise observation of rainfall and accurate spatial distribution of the rainfall for fast recovery of damaged region. Thus, researches on the use of the radar rainfall data have been performed. But there is a limitation in the estimation of spatial distribution of rainfall using rain gauge. Accordingly, this study uses the Kriging method which is a spatial interpolation method, to measure the rainfall field in Namgang river dam basin. The purpose of this study is to apply KED(Kriging with External Drift) with OK(Ordinary Kriging) and CK(Co-Kriging), generally used in Korea, to estimate rainfall field and compare each method for evaluate the applicability of each method. As a result of the quantitative assessment, the OK method using the raingauge only has 0.978 of correlation coefficient, 0.915 of slope best-fit line, and 0.957 of $R^2$ and shows an excellent result that MAE, RMSE, MSSE, and MRE are the closest to zero. Then KED and CK are in order of their good results. But the quantitative assessment alone has limitations in the evaluation of the methods for the precise estimation of the spatial distribution of rainfall. Thus, it is considered that there is a need to application of more sophisticated methods which can quantify the spatial distribution and this can be used to compare the similarity of rainfall field.
Kinetics of ascorbic acid destruction and browning were evaluated by the dynamic test using actual drying data in order to apply in the optimization of food dehydration. Radish was chosen as a test material because it has many typical quality characteristics during drying. Radish was dried in the cabinet dryer with being measured in moisture, food temperature, ascorbic acid and browning. Using moisture and temperature history, proposed kinetic model was integrated and parameters of the model were searched by the iteration scheme to show minimum discrepancy between predicted and experimental data. Ascorbic acid destruction and browning were represented by first and zero order reaction respectively. Arrhenius equation was used to describe temperature dependence. Several mathematical functions of moisture dependence were compared in the model simplicity and residual sum of square. Attained kinetic models were analyzed as functions of temperature and moisture. Rate of ascorbic acid destruction was low at high moisture content, increased with moisture decrease to show a maximum at the moisture of $9{\sim}12g/g$ dry solid, and then decreased up to full dryness. Browning rate increased with moisture decrease to show a sharp maximum at $4{\sim}6g/g$ dry solid and decreased with further moisture decrease.
It is important to detect trails accurately for finding a proper management. We examined the applicability of KOMPSAT imagery to detect trails and found that it could be an efficient alternative to track trails correctly. We selected K2 and K3 imagery with different spatial resolution. Then, we processed each imagery to get NDVI, SAVI, and SC data. And then, we identified trails by object-based analysis and network analysis. Finally, we evaluated the potential trails with F-measurement and Jaccard coefficient which are based on correctness and completeness. The results show that the applicability is quite different in each case. Among them, especially the SC data with K3 shows the most highest value; correctness of detecting legal trails is 0.44 and completeness of that is 0.54. F-measurement and Jaccard coefficient are 0.49 and 0.32. In general, although there is a limit in detecting trails by using only KOMPSAT imagery, the usefulness of KOMPSAT imagery can be a higher considering its cost efficiency and availability of acquiring periodic data.
