  • The microstructure, electrical, and clamping voltage characteristics of ZPCCD-based varistors were investigated at sintering time of 2 and 3 h. The average grain size and density of varistor were increased from 15.2 to 19.0 and from 5.5 to 5.6 $g/cm^3$ with sintering time, respectively. The nonlinear exponent was 65.4 for 2 h and 37.4 for 3 h, and leakage current was 0.54 ${\mu}A$ for 2 h and 0.67 ${\mu}A$ for 3 h. The dissipation factor was 0.0397 for 2 h and 0.0457 for 3 h. The clamping voltage ratio at surge current($8/20{\mu}s$) of 10~300 A was increased in the range of 1.56~2.17.

  • The nonlinear properties and their stability of ZPCCD- based varistors, which are composed of ZnO P $r_{6}$ $O_{ll}$ - CoO-C $r_2$ $O_3$-D $y_2$ $O_3$-based ceramics, were investigated in the D $y_2$ $O_3$ content range of 0.0∼2.0 mol%. The incorporation of D $y_2$ $O_3$ greatly affected the nonlinear properties and the best nonlinearity was obtained from 0.5 mol% D $y_2$ $O_3$ with nonlinear exponent of 66.6 and leakage current of 1.2 $\mu$A. Further addition of D $y_2$ $O_3$ deteriorated the nonlinear properties. In stability against DC accelerated aging stress state: 0.95 $V_{1mA}$/15$0^{\circ}C$/24 h, the 0.5 mol% D $y_2$ $O_3$-doped varistor exhibited the highest stability, in which the variation rate of varistor voltage and nonlinear exponent are -1.9% and 10.5%, respectively. The remainder varistors resulted in thermal runaway due to low density of ceramics.s.s.

  • The microstructure and nonlinear properties of ZPCMR-based varistors were investigated with various additives. The density of varistors were gradually decreased for the same R in order of NiO, MgO, and $Cr_2O_3$, respectively. The ZPCR-based varistors were not affected by NiO and MgO additives in nonlinear properties, whereas greatly affected by $Cr_2O_3$. Among the ZPCCR-based varistors, ZPCCD varistor exhibited the highest nonlinear properties, in which the nonlinear exponent is in the range of $40.5{\sim}67.4$ and the leakage current is in the range of $1.2{\sim}2.7{\mu}A$.

  • The microstructure and varistor characteristics of ZnO-Pr$_{6}$O$_{11}$-CoO-Cr$_2$O$_3$-Dy$_2$O$_3$(ZPCCD)-based ceramics were investigated with Dy$_2$O$_3$ content in the range of 0.0∼2.0 mol%. As Dy$_2$O$_3$ content is increased, the average grain size was decreased in the range of 18.6∼4.7 $\mu$m and the density was decreased in the range of 5.53∼4.34 g/cm$^3$. While, the varistor voltage was increased in the range of 39.4∼436.6 V/mm and the nonlinear exponent was in the range of 4.5-66.6 with increasing Dy$_2$O$_3$ content. The addition of Dy$_2$O$_3$ highly enhanced the nonlinear properties of varistors, compared with the ceramics without Dy$_2$O$_3$ Particularly, the ceramics with Dy$_2$O$_3$ content of 0.5 mol% exhibited the highest nonlinearity, in which the nonlinear exponent is 66.6 and the leakage current is 1.2 $\mu$A.A.A.

  • The electrical properties and stability of the varistors composed of ZnO-Pr$_{6}$O$_{11}$-CoO-Cr$_{2}$O$_{3}$-Dy$_{2}$O$_{3}$ system were investigated with sintering time in the range of 1$\~$3 h at 1350$^{\circ}C$ . As the sintering time was increased, the varistor voltage and leakage current increased, but the nonlinear exponent decreased. The varistors sintered for 1 h exhibited excellent nonlinearity, with a nonlinear exponent of 55.3 and a leakage current of 0.1 $\mu$A, whereas presented relatively low stability. The varistors sintered for 2 h exhibited not only high nonlinear exponent of 46.3, low leakage current of 0.3 $\mu$A, low dielectric dissipation factor of 0.0431, but also the highest stability, in which the variation rates of varistor voltage, nonlinear exponent, leakage current, dielectric constant, and dielectric dissipation factor were -3.0$\%$, -4.1$\%$, +3056.2$\%$, +5.1$\%$, and -12.5$\%$, respectively, after DC accelerated aging stress state of 0.95 V$_{1ma}$/150$^{\circ}C$/24 h. On the whole, the nonlinearity and stability of these varistors are greatly affected by the sintering time.
