  • A traveling-wave CPW(coplanar waveguide) electrode with abruptly broken input/output-taper for LiNbO$_3$optical modulator was designed and fabricated. The electrical characteristics of traveling-wave electrode on z-cut LiNbO$_3$crystal with SiO$_2$buffer layers were measured by network analyzer. To confirm the possibility of the electro-optic modulator electrode, detailed calculations of the impedance, microwave effective index and attenuation constants are presented as a function of the microwave electrode thickness, but the buffer layer thickness is fixed as 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. These characteristics are discussed from the viewpoint of the device optimization and are expected to be design guides for the LiNbO$_3$modulator’s electrodes.

Trends in Satellite Communication Technology

  • In this paper some of the important trends in the spacecraft technology development have been discussed. Trends of higher satellite radiate power, which involves higher TWTA powers and antenna reconfiguration, and Ka-band (30/20 G $H_{z}$) utilization are discussed. Evolutionary trends in satellite communications in general have demonstrated immense potential for meeting the evolving nees and challenges regarding provision of global telecommunications during over past two decades. Their promise for the coming decades as we enter the 21st century may far surpass our imagination. The expansion of fixed satellite service market will depend upon more inelligent spacecraft and a network of more cost effective small earth stations. Radiation hardened microwave analog technologies and high speed digital technologies are getting ready to meet the challenge posed by future markets. At present commercial satellite communications are going through a trasition period.d.

A Low-Profile Dipole Array Antenna with Monopole-Like Radiation for On-Body Communications

  • In this paper, a low-profile dipole array antenna with monopole-like radiation for on-body communications is proposed. The proposed antenna, operating in the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band, is designed with consideration of the human body effect. By placing eight planar dipole antenna elements symmetrically around the z-axis, the proposed antenna achieves monopole-like radiation characteristics with a low profile. The antenna has overall dimensions of $0.44{\lambda}_0{\times}0.44{\lambda}_0{\times}0.013{\lambda}_0$ at 2.45 GHz in the ISM 2.45 GHz band (2.4-2.485 GHz) and a 10-dB return loss bandwidth of 4.9% ranging from 2.4 to 2.52 GHz.

Determining the star formation rate of type 2 AGNs with multi-wavelength SED from UV to radio

  • Outflows are common among local AGNs. Woo et al. (2017) suggested that AGN feedback through outflows is delayed by a dynamical time scale before the suppression of SFR is observationally detected. However, these SFR have large uncertainties because they were estimated by Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method (Ellison et al. 2016). We measured the SFR of 21 far-IR matched sources (z < 0.1) with total IR luminosity from multi-wavelength SED fitting from UV to radio. 15 out of 21 sources were observed with JCMT SCUBA-2 450 and 850um and 4 and 2 sources were matched with archival data of JCMT SCUBA-2 and Herschel SPIRE, respectively. We compared the true SFR by SED fitting with ANN-based one. In addition, we confirmed that sub-mm data are important to determine the SFR with total IR luminosity from SED fitting. Finally, we discuss the significance of true SFR and further the AGN-SF link.

  • This paper suggests the vehicle remote control on the basis of Smart Phone. In general, most smart phone is mounted with G-sensor to control the motion. G-sensor is able to control several directions and movements of velocity along with X, Y, and Z axis. To access remote location and data system, we can also utilize Wi-Fi communication as well as bluetooth communication. In this study, we propose the scheme that is the car management application by remote control via real-time monitoring on mobile device for user convenience.

ANN Modeling of a Gas Sensor

  • At present, Metal Oxide gas Sensors (MOXs) are widely used in gas detection because of its advantages, including high sensitivity and low cost. However, MOX presents well-known problems, including lack of selectivity and environment effect, which has motivated studies on different measurement strategies and signal-processing algorithms. In this paper, we present an artificial neural network (ANN) that models an MOX sensor (TGS822) used in a dynamic environment. This model takes into account dependence in relative humidity and in gas nature. Using MATLAB interface in the design phase and optimization, the proposed model is implemented as a component in an electronic simulator library and accurately expressed the nonlinear character of the response and that its dependence on temperature and relative humidity were higher than gas nature.

  • In this paper, a comparative study of time-frequency distributions by partial discharge(PD) kinds was made. The PD kinds were to be classified into the corona, the surface discharge and the void discharge in this paper. As a result, the distributions of the PD kinds were different, and using neural network, the PD pattern recognizing rate was about 85[%].

  • In silicon wafer manufacturing process, the grinding process has been adopted to improve the flatness of water. The grinding of wafer is usually used by the infeed grinding machine. Grinding conditions are spindle speed, feed speed, rotation speed, grinding stone etc. But grinding condition selection and analysis is so difficult in grinding machine. In the intelligent grinding system based on knowledge many researchers have studied expert system, neural network, fuzzy etc. In this paper we deal grinding condition selection method, Taguchi method and Genetic Analysis.

원색 재현을 위한 스캐너의 신경회로망 모델링 (Neural Network Modeling for Color Reproduction on Scanner)

  • 본 논문에서는 신경회로망에서 가장 널리 쓰이고 있는 오차 역 전파 알고리즘(Error Back-propagation) 을 사용하여 스캐너를 모델링함으로써 스캐너의 원색 재현을 위한 방법을 제시하였다. 이것은 스캐너의 하드웨어적 특성을 고려, 입력된 영상의 원색과 출력물의 색과 일치시키는 방법이다. 우선, 오차 역전파 알고리즘에 대하여 학습 규칙을 살펴보고 학습을 위한 데이터를 추출하기 위해 고르게 분포된 색 샘플들을 계측기로 측정하여 칼라 공간에서의 X, Y, Z 값을 얻어낸다. 그 중에서 표본 샘플을 추출한다. 그리고 이를 스캐너로 스캐닝하여 얻은 R, G, B값을 오차 역전파 알고리즘의 입력값으로, 목표값은 X, Y, Z값을 사용하여 학습시킨다. 학습하는 동안 샘플 색상의 수와 중간층의 수, 노드의 수를 변화시킴으로써 최적의 결과를 얻도록 실험하였다. 결론에서는 서로간의 결과를 분석한다.

  • 그래프 드로잉 시스템이란 주어진 그래프에 대하여 그 그래프가 가진 어떤 특성을 가시화하여 그래픽하게 표현해 주는 소프트웨어 시스템을 말한다. 본 논문에서는 Java를 사용하여 WWW(World Wide Web) 상에서의 상호연결망 그래프의 대칭적 드로잉을 수행하는 그래프 드로잉 시스템을 소개한다. 이 시스템을 Ring, HyperCube, Butterfly와 같은 대표적인 상호연결망 그래프에 대한 기존의 드로잉과 대칭성을 잘 나타내 주는 드로잉을 동시에 보여주며, 또한 HyperCube, HyperTree, Pyramid와 같이 그 모양을 입체적으로 나타낼 수 있는 그래프에 대해서는 원근법을 사용한 3차원 드로잉을 하고 X,Y,Z 축에 따라 이를 회전시켜 그래프에 대한 이해도를 높였다.
