  • Objectives : The purpose of this research was to examine the oriental medical term 'Yukjin(in chinese, liuchen)' i.e. 'good long-term storage of the six oriental medicinal herbs'. Yukjin has meant the six sorts of drugs which were well known for the older they stored, the better efficacious they were. This research was carried out to obtain more conclusive information about the time and the reason of the giving a naming Yukjin, and to arrange Yukjin's properties, toxicities and processes. Methods : We investigated the documents recorded in the medical classics of Yukjin and did the current issues and recent experimental researches of these medicines. Results : 1. The properties and flavors of Yukjin are pungent and bitter. When they were stored for a long time after gathering, their toxicities and stimuli were growing thinner, regarded as positive clinically with age and they should be used after processing. 2. The efficacies of Yukjin are not always in proportion to storage period. In case, they are stored too long, their efficacies and qualities may be deteriorated though volatility or pungent flavors are enfeebled. Conclusions : Consequently, toxicities and strong flavors of Yukjin can be reduced in various processes. So the traditional theory of long-term preservation is not necessarily retained. It may be desirable to store them for 1 to 3 years after harvest, to safen their toxicities and adverse reactions in the way of processing. If we use them properly according to oriental medicine method, it will be effective on treating and preventing the various diseases.

  • Tae-Geuk-Guan'(太極拳) Tae-Geuk(太極) is arranged Yum-Yang-O-Hang(陰陽五行) and created from Mu-geuk(無極). Mu-geuk(無極) means great chaos. Jin-sik Tae-Geuk-Guan(陳式太極拳) has tenth essential theory. There are Li(理), Qi(氣), Samjul(三節), Sacho(四稍), Ojang(五臟), Samhap(三合), Yukjin(六進), Sinbup(身法), Bobup(步法), Gangyou(剛柔). Li(理) is Rules of all things. Qi(氣) is body. Body is divided into Samjul(三節), Sacho(四稍). Ojang(五臟) is inside body and make human'body and Qi(氣). Samhap(三合) is union of mind & intention, Qi & power, muscle & bone. Yukjin(六進) is movement of body. Sinbup(身法) has Chong(縱), Hoeng(橫), Ko(高), Jeo(低), Jin(進), Toe(退), Ban(反), Chuk(側). Bobup(步法) has Jin(進), Toe(退), Ban(反), Chuk(側). Yang-sik Tae-Geuk-Guan(揚式太極拳) has tenth essential theo. • Objectives : This study has attempted to establish an organized system for the microbiological quality of raw materials which are important factors in preparing the standard for microbial limits. Methods : This study has first set up microbial contamination limit test. total aerobic microbial count and total fungi count, int accordance with testing method of the Korea Pharmacopeia 8th edition in order to establish an inspection standard for microbial contamination. Results : The microbial contamination of 18 items that are highly prone to contamination by three regions(Seoul, Daejeon, Gyeongsangbuk-do), As a result, Morus alba Linne and Rehmannia glutimosa Liboschitz var. purpurea Makino showed as high contaminated by WHO's Microbial Contamination Limit standard. In case of Yukjin medicine in the Theory of Herb Medicinal Properties, total bacterial contamination rate showed as 17.7%, total fungal contamination rate showed as 41.2% and total aerobic mircobial count and total fungi count on Ephedra sinica Stapf. Pinellia ternate Breitenbach, Evodia officinalis Dode showed as high measured. The microbial conatmination rate materials which make up Yukmijihwanghwan were mostly high therefore the total aerobic microbial count was measured as high in case of Yukmijihwanghwan, the characteristics about microbial contamination strain is to be researched. Conclusions : By combining the basic data and experimental results related to microbial contamination of herb medicine, the most ideal storage standards for herb medicine has been attempted to be presented.
