Purpose: This study aimed to assess needs of training programs for APN practice courses and continuing education programs for APNs to provide baseline data to improve APN education and practice. Methods: A total of 98 questionnaires were distributed to professors in 38 nursing institutions and 64 (65.3%) were returned. Data collection was performed in November and December, 2007 through email. Results: Professors in charge of geriatric and home care nurse practitioner programs constituted 43.7% of the study participants. Forty-one percent answered that they were satisfied with the practice programs they currently have operated, while 36.5% responded to have difficulty in appointment of institutions for practice programs and 56.3% had problems in assignment of preceptorship. In case of developing training programs for APN practice courses, 58.7% answered that they are willing to participate, and 90.6% felt needs for development of continuing education programs for APNs. Regarding liability insurance for APN students, only 11.5% provided insurance policy. Conclusion: The study results indicated that standardized training programs are needed to assure quality of APN education, and continuing education programs are required to provide opportunities for APNs to improve competencies.

A series of the block copolymers were successfully synthesized from post-sulfonated hydrophilic and hydrophobic macromers via three-step copolymerization. The degrees of sulfonation (DS) of the copolymers (10%, 30%, or 50%) were controlled by changing the molar ratio of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts. The resulting block copolymers were characterized by $^1H$ NMR and other technologies. The membranes were successfully cast using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solution at $100^{\circ}C$. The copolymers were characterized to confirm chemical structure by $^1H$ NMR and FT-IR. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) demonstrated that all sulfonated block copolymers exhibited good thermal stability with an initial weight loss at temperatures above $240^{\circ}C$. The membranes showed acceptable ion exchange capacity (IEC) and water uptake values in accordance with DS. The maximum proton conductivity was 184 mS $cm^{-1}$ in block copolymer-50 at $60^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity, while the conductivity of Nifion-115 was 160 mS $cm^{-1}$ under the same measurement conditions. AFM images of the block copolymer membranes showed well separated the hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains. From the observed results it is that the prepared block membranes can be considered as suitable polymer electrolyte membranes for the application of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC).
Development of vision system as a nondestructive evaluation system can be very useful in screening the defective mechanical parts before they are assembled into the final product. Since the tens of thousands of the mechanical parts are used in an automobile carefully inspecting the quality of the mechanical parts is very important to maximize the performance of the automobile. To sort out the defective mechanical parts before they are assembled, auto parts fabrication companies employ various inspection systems. Nondestructive evaluation systems are getting rapidly popular among various inspection systems. In this study, we have developed a vision system to inspect the inside of the brake caliper, a part that is used to compose a brake which is the most important to the safety of the drivers and the passengers. In a brake caliper, a piston is pushed against the brake disk by oil pressure, causing a friction to damp the rotation of the wheel. Inside the caliper, a groove is positioned to adopt an oil seal to prevent the oil leaks. Inspecting the groove with our vision system, we could examine the existence of the contaminants which are normally the residual tiny pieces from the machining process. We used a high resolution GigE camera, 360 degree lens to look in the inside view of the caliper at once, and a special illumination system in this vision system. We used the edge detection technique to successfully detect the contaminants which were in the form of small metal chips. Labview graphical program was used to process the digital data from the camera and to display the vision and the statistics of the contaminants. We were very successful in detecting the contaminants from the various size calipers. We think we are ready to employ this vision system to the caliper production factories.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the various measures available for assessment of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OXLIPN) and to evaluate the measurement properties of each assessment tool. Methods: A systematic review was conducted to identify existing measures for OXLIPN found in the databases of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, RISS and KoreaMed. The quality of the 24 identified tools was evaluated based on their properties of measurement including content validity, internal consistency, criterion validity, construct validity, reproducibility, responsiveness, floor-ceiling effects and interpretability. Results: Ten (41.7%) of the 24 tools were identified as specific measures for assessing OXLIPN and the most popular type of measures were clinical grading systems by clinicians (58.3%) and only 29.2% of measures were identified as patient reported outcomes. The most frequently used tool was National Cancer Institute-Common Toxicity Criteria (NCI-CTC), but the validity of NCI-CTC has not been reported appropriately. Overall, the Neuropathic Pain Symptom Inventory (NPSI) received the best psychometric scores, and the Chemotherapy-induced Peripheral Neuropathy Assessment Tool (CIPNAT) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy/Gynaecologic Oncology Group-neurotoxicity-12 (FACT/GOG-Ntx-12) followed NPSI. Conclusion: To select appropriate measure, evidences should be accumulated through the clinical use of tools. Therefore, practitioner and researchers are urged to report relevant statistics required for the validation of the currently used measures for assessment of OXLIPN.
Purpose: In this study the time point of effects that repeat exposure to simulation-based nursing training has on stress, interest in learning, and problem-solving abilities were identified. Methods: Participants for this study were 75 nursing college students in Seoul. In a preliminary survey data were collected and measured for the general characteristics, stress, interest in learning, and problem-solving abilities of the students. Then, stress was assessed before performance of each of four-rounds of simulation training scenarios. After each simulation round, interest in learning and problem-solving abilities were assessed. Results: With respect to stress, no significant differences were found when comparing the results of the preliminary survey to those of each of the simulation-based training exercises. For the sub-items of interest in learning, interest in nursing knowledge and interest in clinical training significantly increased between the preliminary survey and the $4^{th}$ survey. Interest in lab training increased significantly at the $1^{st}$ survey. Problem solving abilities showed a significant increase from the preliminary at each of the survey points. Conclusion: Increasing the exposure of nursing students to simulation-based training enhances their interest in learning and problem-solving abilities. Therefore it is necessary to have education strategies that includes various simulation experiences for students.
HI decomposition reaction requires a catalyst for the efficient production of hydrogen as a key reaction for hydrogen production in sulfur-iodine thermochemical water-splitting (SI) cycle. As a catalyst used in the reaction, the performance of platinum catalyst is excellent. While, the platinum catalyst is not economical. Therefore, studies of a nickel catalyst that could replace platinum have been carried out. In this study, the characteristics of the catalytic HI decomposition on the amount of loaded nickel (Ni = 0.1, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 10 wt%) were investigated. As the supported Ni amount increased up to 3 wt%, HI decomposition was found to increase in linear proportion. However, the conversion of $Ni/Al_2O_3$ catalyst loaded above 3 wt% was not linear. It was thought that the different HI decomposition characteristics was caused in the size and metal dispersion of Ni particles of catalyst. The physical property of catalyst before and after HI decomposition reaction was characterized by BET, chemisorption, XRD and SEM analysis.
Purpose : To assess the efficacy of recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor(GM-CSF) in the neutropenia by radiotherapy. Materials and Methods : Eleven patients with various solid tumor were treated with a daily subcutaneous dose of GM-CSF(3-7microgram/kg) for 5days during the radiotherapy. Before and during the course of the study all the patients were monitored by the recording of physical examination, the complete blood count with differential and reticulocyte count and liver function test. Eight patients received prior or concurrent chemotherapy. Results : In 10 patients, the neutrophilic nadir was significantly elevated and the lenght of time that Patients had a neutrophil count below $10^3/mm^3$ a threshold known to be critical to acquiring infective complications was shortened following GM-CSF injection. A significant rise (two fold or greater) of neutrophil count was seen in 10 of 11 patients. In most patients, discontinuation of GM-CSF resulted in a prompt return of granulocyte counts toward baseline. However the neutrophil count remained elevated over $10^3/mm^3$ during radiation therapy, and radiotherapy delays were avoided. Other peripheral blood components including monocytes and platelets also increased after GM-CSF treatment. No significant toxicity was encountered with subcutaneous GM-CSF treatment. Conclusion : GM-CSF was well tolerated by subcutaneous route and induced improvement in the neutropenia caused by radiotherapy.
[ $M/Fe_2O_3$ ] (M=Rh, Ce and Zr) mixed oxides were prepared using urea method to develop a medium for chemical hydrogen storage by their redox cycles. And their redox behaviors by repeated cycles were studied using temperature programmed reaction(TPR) technique. Additives such as Rh, Ce and Zr were added to iron oxides in order to lower the reaction temperature for reduction by hydrogen and re-oxidation by water-splitting. From the results, concentration of urea used as a precipitant had little effect on particle size and reduction property of iron oxide. TPR patterns of iron oxide consisted of two reduction peaks due to the course of $Fe_2O_3\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe_3O_4\;{\rightarrow}\;Fe$. The results of repeated redox tests showed that Rh added to iron oxide have an effect on lowering the re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting. Meanwhile, Ce and Zr additives played an important role in prevention of deactivation by repeated cycles. Finally, Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample added with Rh, Ce and Zr showed the lowest re-oxidation temperature by water-splitting and maintained high $H_2$ recovery in spite of the repeated redox cycles. Consequently, it is expected that Fe-oxide(Rh, Ce, Zr) sample can be a feasible medium for chemical hydrogen storage using redox cycle of iron oxide.
The Sulfur-Iodine (SI) thermochemical hydrogen production process of a closed cycle consists of three sections, which are so called the Bunsen reaction section, the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section and the HI decomposition section. To identify the role of oxygen that can be supplied to the Bunsen reaction section via the $H_2SO_4$ decomposition section, Bunsen reactions with a $SO_2,\;SO_2-O_2$ mixture and $SO_2-N_2$ mixture as feed gases were carried out using a stirred reactor in the presence of $I_2/H_2O$ mixture. As the results, the amounts of $I_2$ unreacted under the feed of mixture gases were higher than those under the feed of $SO_2$ gas only, and the amount of HI produced was relatively decreased. The results of Bunsen reaction using $SO_2-O_2$ mixture were similar to those using $SO_2-N_2$ mixture. It may be concluded that an oxygen in $SO_2-O_2$ mixture has a role as a carrier gas like a nitrogen in $SO_2-N_2$ mixture. The effects of oxygen were decreased with increasing temperature and decreasing oxygen content in $SO_2-O_2$ mixture.
Aldo-keto reductase family 1 B10 (AKR1B10) is a member of the NADPH-dependent aldo-keto reductase (AKR) superfamily, and has been considered to be a potential cancer therapeutic target. Total extract from the bark of Rhus verniciflua (Toxicodendron vernicifluum (Stokes)) showed AKR1B10 inhibitory activity. To identify the active compounds from R. verniciflua responsible for AKR1B10 inhibition, nine compounds were isolated via bioactivity-guided isolation and tested for their effects against recombinant human AKR1B10 (rhAKR1B10). Results showed that butein, isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction, was most able to inhibit rhAKR1B10. The inhibitory rate of butein against rhAKR1B10 was 42.86% at $1\;{\mu}M$ with an IC50 value of $1.47\;{\mu}M$, and enzyme kinetic analysis revealed its inhibition mode to be uncompetitive.
